Ryanair priority boarding

I realise this is a non event and a boring thread lol however think I've given myself a headache by only purchasing priority and a extra cabin bag for just my partner and not me reason been that I only needed the extra cabin bag as well as one checked in suitcase between us and I didn't want to pay for 2 lots of priority
I wasn't bothered about the priority only the extra cabin bag but now Ryanair are saying we have to board separately one in priority and one in normal queue or buy another priority deal. Told that we can't even queue together with our cabin bag in the normal non priority queue. Any ody flown with Ryanair experienced this I have also tried to find just priority boarding for myself but not available.

You can queue together in the non-priority queue. I’ve done this many times with friends when we’ve booked separately on different fairs.
Priority is such a non-event on Ryanair IME, they just put you on the bus first and then everybody else gets on after you and ends up off the bus first!

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 11/09/2025 18:52

Just queue separately.
We do this when DH needs to take an extra bag of work stuff, and it means he gets to board sooner and, hopefully, get space on the overhead for it.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 11/09/2025 18:54

Just queue separately. It’s not that big a deal.

Charltonstrek · 11/09/2025 18:55

Is space reserved in the overheads for everybody's cabin bag if we both went in normal queue would we lose our space lol

Yes true

No. It’s first come first served.

Gonk123 · 11/09/2025 19:00

I have done this and just queued separately…it’s on a few minutes. I can’t lift the case up so I just went to my seat with the luggage and partner lifted it up for me. Job done.

No. It’s first come first served.

Wow and they charge £44 for that priviledge

Queue separately, it’s only a few minutes - we often do it rather than paying for baggage for both of us. When you get to your seat you can pretend to be strangers having a meet-cute, if you’re so inclined.

But that’s what you’re paying for. You get to board before the non-priority people, so you can stow your bag asap. The non-priority people have to jam their bags in as best they can.

no. It's a free for all. Just queue seperate and let the priority person board with the bag first.

MissAmbrosia · 11/09/2025 19:16

To be fair, last couple of times I flew Ryanair, nearly everyone had paid for the priority boarding and carry on bag and the queue was far longer than for those without.

MiddleAgedDread · 11/09/2025 19:18

You’ll both arrive at the same time, just board separately!
agree with the PP that the “priority” queue is usually longer than non priority.

LlynTegid · 11/09/2025 19:29

Make this your last ever flight with Ryanair. You do not need ever to support the bully Mr O'Leary. Except perhaps to visit someone terminally ill or to their funeral if there really is no alternative within say 4 hours or more away.

prelovedusername · 11/09/2025 19:44

Agree with everyone else, queue separately or both go in the non priority queue. Although priority get first go at the overhead lockers, if you’re near the front of the non priority queue you’ll find a space easily. If you haven’t pre-booked your seats you will definitely be separated on the plane but there’s often a way to sit together if you want to. Last time we flew DH and I were at opposite ends of the same row and were both sitting next to a couple who had also been split up. We just swapped around so we were with our partners.

Bully? 😂😂😂
OP, I’ve never had any issues with Ryanair. As someone else said, the priority queue is usually miles longer than non priority. Send DH with the bag to put in overhead locker, you stay sat down at the boarding gate and get on at the end when everyone else has sat down, easy.

Charltonstrek · 11/09/2025 20:08

We have booked seats together but God they want money for everything don't they

Yup, but you don’t have to pay if you don’t want to!

mindutopia · 11/09/2025 20:20

The point of priority is that you board first and get access to overhead storage first. Your bf queues in priority and puts the bag on. You queue non-priority and save your pennies because you won’t be using overhead locker. Surely it’s no big deal to stand in a separate queue for 15 minutes. You have an entire holiday together.

Well, supposedly Priority allows you to board first and find a convenient spot for your cabin bag, but people are idiots and put small bags overhead rather than under the seat in front of them so there’s no spot for one’s cabin bag. It’s farcical.

But I’m not bitter Grin

Same. I always make sure my bag will fit under the seat in front.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 11/09/2025 21:24

It’s a free for all, and I’m always astonished by the size of the hand luggage on Ryanair flights!
I frequently get annoyed by the size of bags allowed on, that clearly would not have fit into the luggage checking thingy, and have not been checked, that then cause real problems as people struggle to fit them into lockers.

Potentially yes. Just queue separately. He can put the bag overhead.

Hillarious · 11/09/2025 22:49

Most relaxed flight I ever had with Ryanair was with my small backpack and a seat
separate from the friends I was travelling with. We boarded last, bag slotted under the seat, two hours to read my book before we all got back together again at the other end. Priority boarding has now become stressful.

HannahHamptonsGloves · 11/09/2025 22:57

If you are being bussed to the plane from the terminal it will all be moot as priority and non priority people will be on the same bus.

We saw this at Gatwick last month when our easyJet flight was departing from the arse end of the airport. They called for speedy boarding passengers - a handful or so - who got on the bus. 5 seconds later they called the other passengers. We got on the same bus, and then got off before the priory people as we were nearer the bus doors!
