do you toast your tortillas when you make fajitas?

Boring question alert 🚨

Just a silly debate we had over lunch at work. One person toasts them in a tiny bit of butter and can’t believe people don’t do the same. Inedible without this step.

I warm mine in the panini press for a few seconds, makes them softer and tastier but not crispy - that is not a fajita

Just to say - I love a quesedilla. Even though that isn't a quesidilla either.

@tinofthetop I'm off to look for one of those.

If you find one, please add a link to this thread! Also very interested.... :)

tinofthetop · 10/09/2025 16:51

@BadActingParsley we bought this one as the ceramic ones get condensated or you need foil or line it with a tea towel or whatever. We did a stupid amount of research and at one stage I even considered making my own and getting a press. So we bought this, we are happy with it

Love this. And the colour and design is right up my street. Going in my basket now. Thank you!

Maddy70 · 10/09/2025 16:57

No but I heat them for 30 secs on the microwave

Does your colleague understand the difference between pan frying and toasting?

Toasting is also done in frying pans though – such as when you toast things like cumin seeds to release the flavour.

FancyCatSlave · 10/09/2025 17:32

I warm them in a dry frying pan usually, just for a few seconds. Not toasted or crunchy

Yes, toasting is also done in a frying pan such as when toasting nuts or seeds, but not if you’re using butter. You are then well into the territory of pan frying or sauteing.

JayJayj · 12/09/2025 21:11

I warm mine up before filling them. But that’s it. Your co-worker is weird 🤣

Ramalam · 12/09/2025 22:01

I warm them up in a pan.

FurForksSake · 12/09/2025 22:05

No, we hear the fajitas for 10s each side over the gas hob flame. However, I would make one like this if I was making just one for a lunch or something.

OldBootNoNewBoot · 12/09/2025 22:09

Heat it in the microwave so it is softer.

Fancy tacos now! 😁

I was just thinking that but it’s gone 10pm and I’m in bed 🤣

I love quesadillas too but everywhere has stopped doing the kits and I’ve never been able to get the sauce/spice bit right since 😂

JaceLancs · 12/09/2025 22:57

I warm mine using a pancake griddle pan - no fat needed

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 12/09/2025 23:06

I do a blast in the microwave, then everything is plonked on the table to self assemble - salsa, guacamole, soured cream, chicken/veg/spice mix, tortilla wraps, and usually a bowl of tortilla chips too.

We’re having fajitas tomorrow.

Lostthefairytale · 12/09/2025 23:35

As others have said she's not having fajitas. It's closest to a Chimichanga I reckon, but you'd make it into a parcel rather than a wrap, and fry it. It's not a quesadilla because cheese should be the primary ingredients in a quesadilla.

RabbitsEatPancakes · 12/09/2025 23:42

I do what your friend does to seal wraps for lunchboxes. But I wouldn't calm that a fajita.

For fajitas I just warm in microwave or oven for a few mins

WingBingo · 12/09/2025 23:43

That’s not a fajita anymore. I do recommend doing this with wraps though. Once you’ve ‘wrapped’ them, they are delicious after being in a hot frying pan for a few minutes.

no oil though.

Whatafustercluck · 12/09/2025 23:45

I have no opinion, but think this is the most first world, middle class debate I've seen here for some time. It makes such a nice change from flags. And Charlie Kirk.
Whatever next? The pronunciation of scone? Jam or cream first?

FurForksSake · 13/09/2025 00:03

Could you make a cream tea fajita?

QueenOfCastille · 13/09/2025 00:10

I heat them up on a cast iron griddle plate

SwedishEdith · 13/09/2025 00:20

I love saying "chimichanga".

coxesorangepippin · 13/09/2025 02:28

Yes, toasted in an oil less pan

MNdrama · 13/09/2025 04:54
