Why are they sooo glam half of them I’ve seen look like actual models and why are they so so thin?

I'm from Liverpool. This is a goady stereotype about Liverpool women. It's something I haven't seen since about 2005.

Sorry if you think I’m being goady. Not meant to be. Just commenting on something I saw the first time I went to Liverpool. I have family in Liverpool, love the city and its people and don’t see anything wrong with wearing curlers. I admire their commitment to beauty. I look like a sack of spuds with a birds nest on my head.

MrsToothyBitch · 10/09/2025 17:28

I don't really aspire to the Liverpool look - that style of glam isn't my thing, but I really respect the effort and ethos of being well presented that go into it. May we all take note.

Also have to agree on the general attractiveness the Irish. There's a small amount on my DMs side and my husband has very strong (non scouse) Irish genes/background. Other than one outlying uncle (there is always one), the whole family are very attractive.

My dd was born in London but grew up just outside Liverpool. She loves the look-and yes, wears rollers outside and gets nail art and her brows done. She fits in very well. She finds Liverpool women encouraging and friendly, and looking good is just as interesting as anything else. She often jokes that if we had stayed in London, she’d be alternative right now. I murmur that there are lots of styles on the SE but only one look in the North. Yes, she said, but that’s the one I like. She has a great job and earns far more than I did at her age-the idea that if you’re interested in looks, you have to be stupid just doesn’t wash.

'Lots of styles in the SE but just one in the North'. That can't be entirely true, but it does make me feel bad for the girls who don't fit in just because they aren't into spending three hours getting ready for a night out. When I was in my early twenties (I'm 42 now) I avoided the types who spent hours on their looks as they tended to be quite vain and boring. I went to university in London and actually there were a lot of absolutely stunning girls there, legitimate models. However, they didn't tend to spend hours on their makeup, they didn't need to. The vain girls were often suprisingly quite plain yet thought of nothing but their looks.

ETA. One famous Scouser is Caroline Hirons. She might be thought of as a guru, and she certainly is very 'glam' but attractive she is not. Like, not even a little bit.

WeekendKitKat · 10/09/2025 20:14

Oh dear, some Scouser has defo upset AliceM in the past.

Don’t take yourself so seriously love. It’s just a lighthearted thread about women living their best lives and having a good time.

Perhaps you need a good night out and a good laugh yourself. I know a great place 😉

They might look ok until they open their mouths..and that bloody awful accent falls out

I find it an entirely charming accent.

CalzoneOnLegs · 10/09/2025 20:21

@MrsToothyBitch you have a point regarding Irish genes though, they often have those beautiful blue or green eyes

I’ve never seen anyone wearing their pyjamas in Liverpool, but always see women with rollers in when out shopping on a Saturday. Fair play to them!

Just part of the scene that.

Ladies Day at Aintree is absolutely different level!

WalkDontWalk · 10/09/2025 20:40

I think it's generally agreed by most right-thinking people with any clue whatsoever that for the highest proportion of wows per girl the informed and interested observer should go directly to Nottingham. I mean, it's absolutely axiomatic and there's little to be gained by discussing it further.

I'm sure Liverpool girls are lovely in their own way, of course.

Because every second shop is an aesthetics clinic! Can’t go 100 yards without passing one.

I have to agree with this bit, I’ve never seen as many anywhere else tbf

I'm not sure about the 'so thin' thing either?

I'm pretty sure Liverpool has a higher than average obesity rate.

I think it does. Certainly higher than London. The girls in the third photo are borderline chubby, not slim and stunning whatsoever.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/09/2025 21:33

I got invited to a Christmas party in a church social club a few years ago. Where I live jeans and a Christmas jumper would have been absolutely fine. Not in Liverpool! I felt so under dressed. Haven’t made that mistake again!

NoNameisGoodEnough · 10/09/2025 21:54

We are from Liverpool. DD and I went to Edinburgh on the train recently for a concert. She had her pin curls in for the journey so her hair was ready when we got there. You always see someone with their hair in rollers in Liverpool on a Saturday afternoon.

No they’re not chubby!

Tight clothes always put pounds on people - those girls have healthy bodies - just swathed in clingy Lycra.

Nonsense. Slim people look slim even in clothes like that.
