It's absolutely an ulcer.

Alyap24 · 09/09/2025 01:48

You don’t need to remove ulcers. They’re harmless they just get a bit sore. It will go down on its own. Bonjela can help if it hurts.

They won't do anything, it'll go away on its own accord within a few days. You can apply some bonjela if it's bothering him though!

Could what be soft? An ulcer? Yes, an ulcer is soft.

it doesn’t look anything like an abscess at all and if your child has an abscess he’d be in a lot of pain and would not be acting normally. It looks like a little mucocele to me, which is a small, painless, harmless little fluid-filled cyst. They’re nothing to worry about. Or it might be an ulcer, which is also nothing to worry about.

Alyap24 · 09/09/2025 01:53

Could it be a absess ?

You’re getting very anxious over nothing. You can’t ’remove’ an ulcer; they go away on their own. If it’s a mucocele that will also probably go down on its own or it will burst like a spot without your child even noticing. It’s tiny and you don’t need to worry about what will happen at the dentist.

It looks like an abscess over a decayed tooth. They don't always hurt.

Alyap24 · 09/09/2025 04:00

Do they give medicine for it

OP posts:
Vogt · 09/09/2025 06:09

I'm not a dentist but it does look like an ulcer. Just to say I had an abscess when I was ten and had no pain at all, just a lump so that can happen though is rare.

Vogt · 09/09/2025 06:11

Just ask a dentist to check it out

No

ItsNotMeEither · 09/09/2025 06:18

I looks like a harmless ulcer. They feel huge in your mouth and they can be sore, so your son will feel like it is bigger than it is. The dentist won't do anything for it.

I did have a dentist tell me years ago, that one way to speed up their progress is to make sure you brush the gum when cleaning your teeth. A little tricky when the gum is hurting, but over the years, I've found that it does help.

Slimagain · 09/09/2025 06:22

How on earth have you managed to reach the age where you have a child and not know what a mouth ulcer is. Yet alone stress about it ?

Vogt · 09/09/2025 06:23

If it is an abscess then he'll need antibiotics and in my case the tooth was removed. For an ulcer it will heal on its own.

RobinHumphries · 09/09/2025 07:34

it looks nothing like an ulcer - it’s a lump. Ulcers don’t look like lumps.

maxisback · 09/09/2025 07:44

Take him to a pharmacist.

Nailed it.

Why be so rude / unkind? What does a put-down like this achieve?

Op, I’m not sure what it is, but if you are seeing the dentist tomorrow, ask them. If it isn't painful, so much the better x

PumpkinSeasonOctober · 09/09/2025 07:58

Does he visit a dentist regularly? A 5 year old should not be prone to an abscess.

SmellsLikeVictory · 09/09/2025 08:05

My daughter (adult now) had similar for several years, dentist said not to worry, it didn’t bother her, and it has gone away eventually by itself. I think it was a cyst but can’t recall exactly what it was diagnosed as. Check it out and put your mind at rest.
