Is this too unpleasant to do even in the circumstances?!

We have to catch a flight this evening and our bedding is not in a good state after a night and day of sickness bug. I have no time to now wash it. Is it too awful to leave it on and wash when we return? It’s cheap bedding and I’m now wondering if we throw it out rather than leave it?!

Aye good try 👍

stichguru · 05/09/2025 15:44

You have all day to wash the bedding as you won't be getting on the plane. Assuming you aren't completely horrible.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 05/09/2025 15:47

I assume you're on the wind-up Hmm

ClarasSisters · 05/09/2025 15:53

Rank 🤢

SoManyIdiotsSoLittleWine · 05/09/2025 15:54

I think you should take the sheets with you and spread them out over your plane seats before sitting down.

naiveandrestles · 05/09/2025 15:54

Depends what you mean not good state. If its just generally sweaty and a bit manky, then just change when you get back. If there are "bodily fluids" and you're not bothered about replacing them, just chuck them. Otherwise as someone else said, short cycle to get the worse off and hang them up somewhere (not outside or it might advertise your house is empty).

2dogsandabudgie · 05/09/2025 15:55

Don't think this is true. It is rare for an adult to be that ill that they can't make it to the bathroom in time. Who would stay in a bed for a night and day with vomit all over the bedding.

😂😂

FuzzyWolf · 05/09/2025 15:57

I would just wash it now and have the decency to stay well away from the flight and anyone else.

Sleepeatcrochetrepeat · 05/09/2025 16:00

Aye, seems some schools still aren’t back then…

Rage bait?

Of course it is. Best ignored but of course everyone will react which is exactly what this bored one-dimensional little person wants.

I flew a few weeks ago with Air India and the entire family in front of us were coughing continuously. I fell asleep and woke and was watching the father who was sated diagonally to me. He was literally coughing up phlegm into sick bags and the air hostess kept running off to bring him more. In the meantime the trolley came around and their children's hands were touching everything and the air hostess told them off. Neither the mother or father noticed as they were too busy coughing their guts up.
In the final hour, people around the man began to realise that he was coughing phlegm into these bags and complained. The air hostess asked him if he had a mask which he didn't. She then asked him to move directly in front of me! Unfortunately, there was only an hour left of the 10 hour flight so the damage had already been done.
We spent a week so unwell on holiday that we had to see a Dr twice and was given antibiotics. My daughter is still coughing now.
I wish I'd had the bravery to complain before the others did but it was a full plane with no other seating.
It was absolutely disgusting. I am fully of the opinion that everybody should wear a mask on planes like during COVID. It's such a contained space that we are breathing everything in. I'll certainly be wearing a mask next time.
People are so so selfish when they get on a plane unwell. Staff should look out for signs as people enter.
So YABU. For travelling whilst sick and for leaving your washing.
Rant over!

Burn it

mickandrorty · 05/09/2025 16:06

While you hope this is just a loser with nothing better to do than wind up people on mumsnet, there are some people who are this selfish and grim.

I agree it's really nasty to fly when ill. I had a similar situation on a long haul flight a couple of years ago. The guy in the next row was coughing his lungs out. A really painful-sounding hacking cough. Of course, 3 days later in the night before I was due to speak at a work event I came down with COVID: high fever, chills, voice gone. I had to inform the hotel and was confined to my room for days. Horrendous and a substantial (and preventable) cost to the business.

BarbarasRhabarberba · 05/09/2025 16:09

Are you talking about kids or adults? If adults, why the hell didn’t you go to the toilet! Also, agree with others, don’t get on the plane with a D&V bug. If I was a passenger and caught it from you I’d be wishing for your long, torturous demise for a long time.

Thingyfanding · 05/09/2025 16:10

I always assume that people are sick on flights and have antibacterial wipes and sanitizer to clean everything multiple times throughout the flights. I’m very cautious using the toilet too. I also make sure my children’s areas are sanitised and hands cleaned regularly. Most people will travel if they are ill it’s too expensive to cancel flights and rebook.

TablePourTrois · 05/09/2025 16:11

Imagine you made the wrong decision.
What's the worst that can happen?
🤣🤣🤣

Whattheduck · 05/09/2025 16:11

I would be more concerned about getting on a flight with a stomach bug and passing it on to other passengers and crew members

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 05/09/2025 16:13

She's says sickness bug, not diarrhoea!

I'd strip it and stick in the machine. Wash it when you're back on a hot wash.

Don't chuck perfectly good bedding because you can't wash it right now!!

Livingthebestlife · 05/09/2025 16:15

😂 Nearly fell for this. Jeeze I'm getting slower

intoFolklore · 05/09/2025 16:17

YABU to get on a plane when you've had a sickness bug in the last 48 hours, yes

riversflows · 05/09/2025 16:18

Never mind the laundry, the real issue is the flight. You'll pass on your bug to others and ruin their holiday/work trip.

louderthan · 05/09/2025 16:18

YABVVVVU to even consider getting on a plane tbh.

AugustSlippedAwayIntoAMomentInTime · 05/09/2025 16:31

Yes, you are being unreasonable to even be considering ruining everyone else's holiday on the plane. Asshole behaviour.
