Instagram posters etc actively rejoicing in getting in the kids back to school, jokes about chucking them through the door and so on
I get it, it’s hard with kids off, you have no peace and so on, but these posts just make me feel uncomfortable and the videos just aren’t that funny

OP posts:

I dont have a view about whether people should or shouldnt or do or dont feel happy when their kids go back

But Im always intrigued as to why people who 'feel uncomfortable' about something need to share that they 'feel uncomfortable' and that they say it as if their discomfort is somehow significant and means something

So you're 'uncomfortable'

So what?

Exactly. You're allowed to feel uncomfortable, lol.

It’s like people saying that something ‘offends’ them. I mean… and? What do they want people to do about it?

PixieTales · 04/09/2025 17:31

Let’s be honest it’s mainly the stay at home mummy’s who can’t wait to get a bit of me time back again by getting rid of their own kids.

Yes it’s uncomfortable and I also wonder why they even decided to have children if they can’t wait to get rid of them….Sad all round.

They are trying to be funny and failing.

I used to secretly look forward to them going back to school but I wouldn’t plaster it over social media.

HelenHywater · 04/09/2025 18:16

I always enjoyed summer holidays if I wasn't working, but they are such a pain if you are - juggling everything, sorting clubs (that they don't want to go to and which don't fill the whole day anyway) , visits to grandparents, and juggling time off with my children's father. I used to do a spreadsheet! It was just hard, and expensive and I was always relieved when they got back to school.

Kreepture · 04/09/2025 18:31

as someone who is the end of getting both my 16+ teens out the house to an education facility, one of whom is disabled and needs 24/7 supervision.. you bet i'm rejoicing and basking in the silence.

I finally one day a week back where i have NEITHER of them here 9-3.30, and can switch off from the mental/emotional load of being a carer for a few hours.. which to be honest, i treat as respite, and spend just doing.. sweet fuck all.

Don't like it, don't watch them, but don't judge other parents til you've walked the proverbial mile in our shoes.

LemondrizzleShark · 04/09/2025 18:36

I had a lovely summer with DS. BUT my house looks like a bomb site, I’m behind on my work, and I haven’t set foot in a gym since June. So I am glad we are back in our normal routine.

CrispieCake · 04/09/2025 18:49

I collected my kids from school today. They were poking and winding each other up the whole way home. As tbh they've been doing for the past couple of weeks, having had a little too much of each other's company.

It doesn't take all that much imagination to work out why some parents might like a bit of a break from this 😂.

I don't post about my kids on social media but, if I did, I might post something about being glad school has restarted.

Given we live in an era of oversharing in general (or "sharenting", as I think it's called in relation to kids) I'm confused about why this in particular would cause outrage.

In amongst all the posts about summer fun, Halloween, Christmas, visits to Santa, days out, Valentines, Easter egg hunts, sports achievements and all that, I doubt it is going to cause today's children any real upset if they find out when older that their parents were happy to pack them back off to school come September.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but my DC, or at least the older one, is well aware that I like some time to myself occasionally. And DC1 now flounces upstairs occasionally announcing that he wants a break from us all and will be in his room 😂.

I definitely recall wanting a break from my own parents and sibling. Most people like a break from others including family members and people they live with. It’s actually healthy to have some time to oneself.

Masmavi · 04/09/2025 20:57

I don’t feel like that but it doesn’t bother me. Some of them are amusing. Haven’t seen any actually cruel ones

TaborlinTheGreat · 04/09/2025 20:57

It doesn't make me uncomfortable, and I can understand why some parents feel like that. I just find it a bit odd that they so gleefully admit it to the world.

Chobby · 04/09/2025 21:01

I don’t have social media so no posts, but I got the third of my three back to school today (they’ve been off since the beginning of July!) and as Thursday is my day off I told them I was going to lie on the sofa all day watching films and eating their snacks, rejoicing in the quiet! They took it in the spirit it was intended, which was a joke.
I actually spent the day cleaning up the carnage that 8.5 weeks of school holiday created.

Mummy’s what?

Sorry can you not read a sentence?

Let’s be honest the ones who are mainly affected are stay at home mums. Working mums still have to arrange nursery/clubs because they are working.

I have witnessed many stay at home mums on social media celebrating their kids going back to school. I honestly think it’s uncomfortable and unpleasant. Why even have kids if you can’t wait to ‘get rid’ of them?

Apologies, you used a possessive apostrophe in ‘mummy’s’ rather than the plural ‘mummies’ so your sentence was confusing.
I work and am relieved when they go back to school, as the childcare juggle is challenging. I live fairly rurally with minimal holiday clubs etc, and it’s a real struggle.

Bathingforest · 04/09/2025 22:53

If I am correct ...some of the post means bastard kids....if you joke in my country like that to any parents , especially the father, you honestly might end up at least slapped in the face. People here laughing at this word because ?

Who has talked about ‘bastard kids’?

No, you were deliberately trying to be antagonistic.

Unfortunately for you I don’t care.

Poor you and your juggle struggle.

Bathingforest · 04/09/2025 22:57

It is random what kind of political correctness English people accept and what other truly awful wording they think it is funny.....do you indeed have bastard kids, and do you believe your kids deserve to be called this

I have no interest in whether you care or not, or what you think of my struggles. I don’t know who you are. It’s just a thread on a public forum, where people are discussing a particular issue.
You appear to be irrationally angry at ‘stay at home mummy’s (sic)’. Maybe you should work on that.

Bathingforest · 04/09/2025 22:59

The post on fb today was something about a teacher knowing the mothers are throwing their kids over the fence and getting rid of the b.......kids ...thought this is what the thread is all about as it is truly awful

Yet here you are quoting and questing so many posters.

The irony 🤣

I have one with suspected autism. Yeah I will be glad of a break!
