Neighbour has put bins on footpath who to complain too?

For the last couple of weeks a neighbour has been placing their bins on a footpath that leads to my house.

She lives a door away from me and this is causing me a nuisance as I have 3 kids with the youngest being a baby.

She puts her bins there so they are not in her garden or driveway.

AIBU to complain about this?
I have asked her politely to move them to no avail.

Is this a full time thing? Or just on bin day?

SuPollardsPolkaDotFrock · 01/09/2025 18:17

Just keep putting them back. Does she own or rent?

blubberyboo · 01/09/2025 18:18

Move them onto the road

HeadsWinTailsLose · 01/09/2025 18:19

I’d move them.

PennySweeet · 01/09/2025 18:20

Council I suppose.

ThirdStorm · 01/09/2025 18:21

If they are on your path, start filling them with your rubbish so there is no room for hers.

DeanStockwelll · 01/09/2025 18:22

Is the footpath yours or does it lead to other areas / houses ?
If its yours I'd take them back to her house and the first time leave them neatly out of the way but if I had to do it again I'd block her front door / car / gate.
If its not your footpath I am not sure what you can do but the petty in me would want to drag the off along way

smallpinecone · 01/09/2025 18:23

Depends on whether it’s your footpath I suppose?

FuzzyWolf · 01/09/2025 18:23

Given she hasn’t responded to you asking. I would photograph it, move them to the middle of her driveway, and raise a complaint with the council. Do it every single time she does it.

Meadowfinch · 01/09/2025 18:24

Keep moving them. Make it clear you will not accept her actions. She'll give up eventually.

BlackCoffeeAndSugar · 01/09/2025 18:24

We need a diagram.

BettysRoasties · 01/09/2025 18:25

Depends on your local rules.

If this is a council owned path you report to them. Most councils don’t like bins being out for many hours before or after collection is due.

MuffinsAreJustCakesAtBreakfast · 01/09/2025 18:26

How could you write this post and leave out the crucial piece of info:

do you own said footpath?

TheActualDuck · 01/09/2025 18:49

Agree with pp, we need a diagram to properly understand your situation.

caramell · 01/09/2025 19:24

The footpath leads to my house and is part of my property.
She leaves the bins there all the time.

What would it come under for the council?

Do you have a garage? Take them and put them in the garage and lock them in

TidyDancer · 01/09/2025 19:27

If you own the footpath technically she’s fly tipping on your land. I would contact the council and ask them to remove the bins. Depending on the council, they might not comply but if they do then your neighbour may need to pay to get replacements which should prevent any repeat of this.

Homeandfireworks · 01/09/2025 19:27

Your property so if she says anything say - this is my property so you are fly tipping rubbish on my land. I will dispose of your bins and charge you for disposal. Get video evidence via ring doorbell

I’d keep the bins!

You could complain on littering and/or ASBO grounds. The former would be your environmental health officer’s remit.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 01/09/2025 19:29

If she's leaving them on your land put it in writing 'get your shit off my land or I'll dispose of it'. Then if she leaves them there, take them to the tip.

MyToeHurtsBetty · 01/09/2025 19:30

I'd move them 3 streets over and look confused when she asked... Cheeky fucker

DonewhatIcando · 01/09/2025 19:31

Put them back on her property.
Are they wheelie bins, if so wheel them a couple of streets away if she does it again.
Can't see why the council would be interested in a petty dispute over bins, especially if you both own your own properties

YelloDaisy · 01/09/2025 19:32

Start off by being nice - could you please not put the bins there as I can't get the buggy past

bitterexwife · 01/09/2025 19:32

Agree with the above about putting them in your garage or back garden.
when she asks - they were on my land so assumed you’d given them to me? I’m busy with baby at the mo, but will return next week - after bin day.

hyggetyggedotorg · 01/09/2025 19:33

Do you own your property & is the footpath for your exclusive use?

I ask because there were similar issues here but the properties are HA & the front gardens & footpaths are all technically “communal”. It’s antisocial but all the affected house could do was keep moving them & wait for the bin owners to get fed up.
