Neighbour has put bins on footpath who to complain too?

caramell · 01/09/2025 18:16

For the last couple of weeks a neighbour has been placing their bins on a footpath that leads to my house.

She lives a door away from me and this is causing me a nuisance as I have 3 kids with the youngest being a baby.

She puts her bins there so they are not in her garden or driveway.

AIBU to complain about this?
I have asked her politely to move them to no avail.

Your bins are going to have nice holiday. Pop them away somewhere for a rest.

Take her bins, and pull them inside your property, behind a gate...into your garden.... Use them as normal. Put them back out on bin day...full. With your rubbish.

Rinse and repeat. Leave the cheeky duxker without a bin.

Maddy70 · 03/09/2025 06:24

Speak to her , tell her you can't get past with the children and your buggy , ask her to keep them on her own path

Summerbay23 · 03/09/2025 06:49

If you genuinely and solely own the land then start by asking politely. Next couple of times move them back.

And if she doesn’t get the message stick them in a really unhelpful place (across the road, in her porch, round the corner).

Do you have a garage? Take them and put them in the garage and lock them in

this is what I’d do.

We need a diagram.

Would be handy

If they are on your path, start filling them with your rubbish so there is no room for hers.

This

I hate bin day - riddled with bins on paths. I have a disabled daughter who uses a wheelchair full time and it's chaos. Sick and tired of walking on the road with her. I don't think there's much you can do... maybe move the bin until they get the message?

Edit: ah just noticed it's there permanently. Even worse!

rainbowstardrops · 03/09/2025 09:07

I’d wheel them up the road so she can’t find them!

They're not being left on the pavement - they're on the OPs private property!

Tiredofwhataboutery · 03/09/2025 09:49

I’d take them for a walk tbh. Do they have a number on them drop them at the house with that number on next street along. Super helpful of you. Must of been kids who’d brought them to yours.

Lafufufu · 03/09/2025 09:58

If you've discussed it, shes ignored you and its your land - I would go in very firmly.

physically remove them ie take them away. Put them in your garage/ shed - take them to 3 streets over or even take them to the dump and dispose of them.

Then deny any knowledge of her bins when questioned.

On bin day i would not take my bins out until the last second ie i can physically see the binman (so she cant dump her trash in my bins)
I'd do this for a few weeks so she has no choice but to buy new ones then depending on whether or not I'd actually got rid of them.

She's taking the absolute piss id go full tilt so she learns clearly to leave me alone.

Note: there's no diagram - if its a maisonette and shes your upstairs neighbour i might handle it differently as noise wise she could dole out a lot of retribution

How ridiculous!

BMW6 · 03/09/2025 10:37

I'd empty her bins onto her garden.

lilkitten · 03/09/2025 11:41

I was a borough councillor, bins usually come under the borough or city council (not county - though they can swap responsibilities around). When I would report this, Environmental Health I think were the ones who would visit the property and speak to them with a warning. Warnings usually did the trick, so I'm not actually sure what the next step is). Look on your borough/city council website, see if there's somewhere to report it. If not, look up your councillor and email them.

Just keep putting them back. Does she own or rent?

Own or rent......... Relevance??

Go. And. Talk. To. Your. Neighbour.

Go. And .Read. The. First. Post

Update;
Both her bin had been blown over by the wind today and had fallen on my neighbours car!

Luckily my garage and drive is at the side of the house (1st house terrace).

I saw it when it happened and she came out looking as if I should of been picking the bins up, crazy woman.

Hopefully after paying for any damage to the neighbours car she will think twice about leaving her bins there again, selfish woman.

Probably the council with photos.

Own or rent......... Relevance??

If she rents then the OP could try talking to the landlord. Obviously.

Hollybollyhughes · 03/09/2025 17:59

The bin police. Seriously people who block pavements with cars, bins or anything else are inconsiderate. Pavements are for pedestrians or wheelchair users, buggies, joggers etc. Get off the pavement you inconsiderate twits.

Yourcatisnotsorry · 03/09/2025 18:20

move them a few streets away or accidentally knock them over (when full) into her garden. It’s such a struggle to get past with your pushchair. She won’t do it again.

SuPollardsPolkaDotFrock · 03/09/2025 20:59

Silvercoconut · 03/09/2025 13:15

Own or rent......... Relevance??

Erm because then you know who to complain to?? Like her landlord?

Hope that helps x

Plmnki · 03/09/2025 22:20

1.complain to council on actual web site
2.find your ward councillors, contact ALL of them, whomever seems the most responsive / proactive, ask them to chase it personally for you.

good Carreras minded local, councillors make a HUGE difference at the local level.

find yours and really engage, they can really help.

chunkybear · 04/09/2025 05:51

A diagram would be helpful here so we can help you plan revenge!
