Ok bear with me. This sounds like an idiotic thing to say because if the IMF are involved it means the country is officially in a mess and the IMF will slash spending and enforce their own budgets and rules. So anyone on benefits might lose them, NHS funding will likely go down, same for the police force etc

It just occurred to me today that the country is in a complete mess and there isn't really any end in sight.

Headlines today - I didn't read the detail but I am just getting more angry, helpless feeling and frustrated and want 'somebody' who has some balls to step in and say enough. Things change from today. Todays headlines are rising taxes, 1/10 high school kids on benefits, families of migrants can claim benefits from day 1 even if they don't speak english.

Now i will caveat this by saying the housing market does need sorted but lets be honest that's not what they are trying to do here - it's just about raising taxes. I also say there is another articles claiming ' a crackdown on bring families into Britain' - something that made me snort with derision giving the whole small boats/protests going on just now.

I mean lets just get to the point. Does ANYONE think RR/KS are able to fix this mess. I know they didn't cause it. I know they have been in office less than a year but if we give them another year are they able to fix it. I personally don't think so. It is going to need someone very tough to brave the mess and take it in hand (Maggie Thatcher where are you now).
So what are we left with - voting Reform - which I have joked about doing but i don't actually think that is the way to go. That's borne out of desperation. So who is going to fix it then.

The reason we are in this mess is BECAUSE of Thatcher - Reform would burn the country to the ground.

Honestly I think we will need to raise taxes and have crappy public services for a bit.. But dear god what did we expect....We pissed away north sea oli revenues (no national wealth fund for us oh no why would we want that), sold of critical infrastructure (I mean we sold national housing stocks at cut rate prices to grab votes from council house tenants), didn't invest in anything for decades (school and hospital building, roads, education), didn't invest in training or skills (not enough Drs were trained, technical skills were left to the market) .We had no industrial strategy FFS..."Economic policy" was all reduced to fiscal policy and managing markets. No thought given to labour, skills and infrastructure at all... Frankly we deserve this shit show....

And people believed an utter snake oil salesman who told them that leaving our biggest trading partnership was a good idea too 🤪

AND relying on a housing bubble to make people feel rich when the rest of the country was burning to the ground…

But it’s not childish nonsense is it- it’s the truth. We are in this mess because of the lies of Farage and the horrendous economic policies of thatcher.

It makes me so angry and so I will swear at them all I like- people blame immigrants but the blame for the utter catastrophe of the last decade sits firmly at the feet of Farage and the tories.

Frankly we deserve this shit show....

A lot of adults did do well under Thatcher after struggling in the 70s. Many don't always understand it was due to unrepeatable windfalls as opposed to just hard work. . I think that's why we get some of that "young people can't afford housing because of avocados" type of thinking amongst older generations.

And rather then acknowledge that actually all that hard work & tax cannot fund their state pensions, care costs & the NHS it's easier to blame others so Farage is popular because it says what people wants to hear.

I don’t think Labour’s tax, spend and borrow high policies are working. We’re spending a huge amount on debt servicing that’s the problem. It takes away spending on other things.

And considering things have been shit since 08 it's ludicrous to think any party can sort this in one term. If things can change it will take years and will need cross party consensus but I don't think most of the electorate want that.

QE or money printing is also partly to blame too- decades of interest rate suppression and now the chickens are coming home to roost too.

I really hope that Labour change our votings system away from FPTP to PR to prevent essentially the national front getting into power.

The U.K. needs a broader more progressive system than FPTP and urgently. Then maybe it will force parties to work together more to find solutions.
