Turkey teeth

Icanflyhigh · 30/08/2025 21:36

I'm considering going to Turkey for new teeth.

I simply can't afford it here and after yet another upper back tooth crumbling last night, I need to do something.

Tell me your horror stories, give me your recommendations, desperate as I feel so flipping ugly.

How long would I need to be there? Are they English speaking?
Will I end up horrifically disfigured with glow in the dark teeth?!

So as not to drip feed, I do look after my teeth, this is related to roaccutane treatment as a teenager, and as I've got older, they've just crumbled.

Anyone?

My friend )along with her friends) went past year to have them done. They're happy with them and the treatment they received.
I think they look far too regular and white they look very false

Jasrai · 30/08/2025 23:43

Is there no other option? My sister's dental surgery won't accept Turkey teeth clients because the work is often awful. You have to get them redone as well as they don't last.

Frannieisnthappy · 30/08/2025 23:49

I had a lot of dental work done in Turkey but this was about 18 years ago. I was quoted £2000 in UK but all of my dental work (fillings, crowns and whitening) came to around £600. I was already going for a two week holiday and then found a recommended dentist in Fethiye.

Very hygenic, good spoken English. I would do it again if I needed a lot of dental work in the future.

I cant comment on things like veneers etc - sorry.

smallpinecone · 30/08/2025 23:52

I’m a dental nurse.

Please, please don’t do this. I can’t stress this enough.

3678194b · 30/08/2025 23:55

Are you able to have composite bonding and/or braces instead? Teeth would at least be more natural looking and not nearly as much shaved down.

I know someone how got veneers a good 15 years ago or so, and now needs the whole lot redoing, but can't afford it.

smallpinecone · 31/08/2025 00:07

Having turkey teeth isn’t ‘new teeth’, as you put it. And it can lead to a whole load of terrible complications when not done correctly, not least because your teeth are crumbling to begin with. So can composite bonding. I’ve seen some awful sights…

An upper back molar isn’t visible. What do you think turkey teeth will actually accomplish? Have you considered crowns? You need to speak to a dentist urgently to properly assess your teeth and discuss your options, but I’d steer well clear of going abroad for cosmetic treatment in your situation. When you require further, ongoing treatment or maintenance - and you will, because turkey teeth/composite bonding is not a permanent solution- none of the British dentists I work with would assume liability.

caffelattetogo · 31/08/2025 00:22

You don’t need to get veneers - you could just get regular dental work done there, if you used a proper dentist there (not a cosmetic clinic).

SemperIdem · 31/08/2025 00:22

I would look at any and all UK based options, even if some degree of compromise on your part is involved. The majority of UK dentists won’t touch “Turkey teeth”.

Having your existing teeth sanded down to nubs in a foreign country is such an extreme route to take, they will need long term care and maintenance which simply will not be an option in the UK.

Icanflyhigh · 31/08/2025 00:50

Thank you so far.

I should have been more clear, I don't want veneers, I want implants to fill the huge gaps I have both sides at the top.

I've literally got 7 and a half teeth left of my own including 4 at the front and 3.5 at the back.
The gaps are awful. Photos of me are awful.
And another half tooth crumbling away last night was just the last straw.

I know it's down to the roaccutane treatment from 35 years ago, it's now taking it's toll.

I'm 46 and feel 76.

Cost is a huge factor. I can't prioritise my teeth over DH and the DC, but I feel so fucking ugly, I need to do something.

I've tried the clip on veneers - they're awful.
I mean truly awful.

I will listen though, and I'll read all comments before making any decisions x

Try Poland, Lithuania or even Brighton Dental for implants.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 31/08/2025 01:04

Do it, why not

CanadianUKimmigrant · 31/08/2025 01:07

Hi @Icanflyhigh - if you're willing to go overseas for dental work, have a look at Cyprus. My husband was in the same situation as you (5 bottom teeth, none on the top). He had I believe 6 implants anchoring 5 bridges. I wouldn't say it was cheap (about €14,000) but it's about half of the UK. And the follow up has been top notch. It's a long process and you'll have to be prepared for several UK-Cyprus flights.
Feel free to DM me if you want to know more.

Bulldogdays · 31/08/2025 01:20

I have missing teeth from 30 years of builima
I couldn't cope with implants, and barely cope with going to the dentist at all.
So I had the cheapest NHS denture , because I didn't want anything like a bridge that can ruin the teeth it attaches to
Anyway ,my denture is brilliant,it's given me my confidence back ,I wear it all the time ,it looks natural, and absolutely no one ,not even my husband knows I wear a denture. .it's comfortable in my mouth ,and when I open my mouth you can't tell which teeth is the denture .. definitely recommend

TheGreatWesternShrew · 31/08/2025 01:44

If it’s the only way you can afford bridges then do it but just extremely thorough and careful about researching the clinic first.

And be aware it will still cost many thousands…

Bulldogdays · 31/08/2025 02:06

My NHS denture was just over £250 ..worth every penny

SiameseBlueEyes · 31/08/2025 02:21

I had two rounds of roacutane treatment - the last was probably twenty years ago and the first was about thirty years ago. I'm in my sixties with all my teeth - except for ones removed as a teenager for braces. Are you sure it was roacutane? Tooth mousse and fluoride rinses can strengthen existing teeth. I am sorry you have found yourself in this position. It must be difficult.

If you’d like implants, you’ll need x-rays taken to assess the bone.

But please go to the dentist. And they will advise you. I don’t mean to be unkind, but you seem to have no idea of what the different options are and don’t seem to have researched this. Turkey teeth, veneers, bonding, crowns, implants - these are all different procedures and you’ve no way of knowing what’s best for you. The cheapest option is obviously a denture. They look fantastic and you can select from a variety of different shades.

But you can’t decide anything until you’ve seen a dentist. You’re putting the cart before the horse, wanting a solution not knowing if it’s the right one, or even possible. Book yourself in for a check up with x-rays and they’ll assess the teeth and come up with a treatment plan. You need to know what’s going on with the teeth and bone before you can plan anything. That’s my best advice.

And don’t get turkey teeth abroad!

ColinVsCuthbert · 31/08/2025 02:28

Implants aren’t a quick fix, I think the one I have took 9 months from start to finish, maybe 3 dentists visits.

Bigpakchoi · 31/08/2025 02:59

Hi OP,
Have you considered custom made partial dentures for the gaps near the front of your mouth? They hook onto remaining teeth.

Could be a cheaper less invasive option?

Was just googling partial dentures and there are a number of types with different materials. Example:
https://neyodental.co.uk/prosthodontics/dentures/partial-dentures

I would do some research and find a dentist who specialises in dentures to go and get some advice and assess what your options could be.

I am sorry you are in this situation and I hope you find a solution that works for you.

Partial Dentures with a Specialist from £54 Per Month

Partial dentures, made from false gum and false teeth, are specially designed to fit around your remaining natural teeth.

Bjorkdidit · 31/08/2025 03:19

Dentures sound promising but if you are determined to go abroad for implants, Hungary has a very good reputation for dentistry so might be worth looking into.

You don't have to have 'glow in the dark' teeth either, you can have natural looking teeth.

Purpleheatherrain · 31/08/2025 06:08

How much do implants hurt? And what does the process involve?

Aguinnessplease · 31/08/2025 06:12

I know they sound unfashionable and bring back memories of granny, but partial dentures are in many cases perfect for people with missing teeth. Cheap, cosmetically fine and easy to manage. At the very least they can be a mid term option while you save for implants.

tara66 · 31/08/2025 06:22

Have you researched dentists in Eastern European countries too?

tara66 · 31/08/2025 06:25

re implants - my memory of them is you need to do them within a certain time of losing your original roots.
