Turkey teeth

Icanflyhigh · 30/08/2025 21:36

I'm considering going to Turkey for new teeth.

I simply can't afford it here and after yet another upper back tooth crumbling last night, I need to do something.

Tell me your horror stories, give me your recommendations, desperate as I feel so flipping ugly.

How long would I need to be there? Are they English speaking?
Will I end up horrifically disfigured with glow in the dark teeth?!

So as not to drip feed, I do look after my teeth, this is related to roaccutane treatment as a teenager, and as I've got older, they've just crumbled.

A couple of people I follow used Vera Smile. that link should have a 20% disc attached to it. If you want to look him up he’s Paaka Davis

A friend of mine and all
of her family have had the full turkey teethe veneers. I am not a fan of how they look, too white and perfect like a set of dentures.
However whenever they have any dental issues including gums their dentist in the UK won’t touch them. My friend has had to go back to Turkey 3 times in the last 18 months to get the issues sorted. I wouldn’t do it. I’d rather borrow the money and get it done here .

A relative went here, in Turkey.
https://www.antlaradental.com/en/all-on-6-dental-implants
That was around two years age, there's been no issues. I got a price from a dentist based in Turkey, but he has clinics doted around the UK for after care. I know lots of people who've gone there. You are still paying about £1k per implant, and extra £500 for sedation etc, but it is nearly half the price of the UK cost.
https://www.facebook.com/share/1ZB2CkZdKj/
I was given a £8.5k price for nine implants. I had my Consultation in the UK. I also had Consultations by UK dentists. You need to ask what screw, abutment and crown is being used. There's a big difference in quality. I'm still thinking about it, the down side to dentures is eating out, even a burger has to be thought about carefully.

@Icanflyhigh i had terrible teeth following long term illness.

Following a recommendation on here, I went to SmileSavers in London - walking distance from Kings Cross. They are all Eastern European but there was the option to have it done here rather than abroad.

They were brilliant and much much less than my normal dentist would charge. I had a mixture of crowns and implants, which they recommended. They really don't look fake at all, and even my dentist has complimented me on them.

Implants aren’t a quick fix, I think the one I have took 9 months from start to finish, maybe 3 dentists visits.

This. I have two implants, and it took the best part of a year, all in all. They first removed my teeth and applied a bone graft. This had then to be left for a few months. Then the implant was fitted, and had to heal for a further few months. Then the new teeth were fitted. Everything was carefully checked at each stage, and I had to go back a couple of times to get the bite adjusted, as one of them kept coming slightly loose (normal if the bite isn’t quite right). I would be very wary of anyone who said they could do the whole process in a single step.

londongirl12 · 31/08/2025 06:56

You mention you can’t put them ahead of your DH and DC, but if it’s affecting you so much, then I’m sure they would be supportive. Most dentists do payment plans. Please speak to your UK dentist. As others have said, you could need multiple trips.

Vegalyra · 31/08/2025 07:18

Have you considered Eastern European EU countries? I think dental work will be cheaper than in the UK but still regulated at EU standards.

One of my friends is Eastern European and regularly sees a private dentist here in the UK. Apparently he commented that the fillings she had done in her home country were of the same standard and using the same materials he uses in his private practice.

iirbRosb · 31/08/2025 07:21

i know quite a few people with them - all fine and no issues. Just don’t go ridiculously white; I know someone who works in the industry and they say it’s the brits that go for bright white when choosing a normal colour would look so much better

Thank you so far.

I should have been more clear, I don't want veneers, I want implants to fill the huge gaps I have both sides at the top.

I've literally got 7 and a half teeth left of my own including 4 at the front and 3.5 at the back.
The gaps are awful. Photos of me are awful.
And another half tooth crumbling away last night was just the last straw.

I know it's down to the roaccutane treatment from 35 years ago, it's now taking it's toll.

I'm 46 and feel 76.

Cost is a huge factor. I can't prioritise my teeth over DH and the DC, but I feel so fucking ugly, I need to do something.

I've tried the clip on veneers - they're awful.
I mean truly awful.

I will listen though, and I'll read all comments before making any decisions x

My husband has just had implants done, but in the UK. It’s been a long drawn out process but it was necessary to give certain times between each appointment for the mouth to heal before the next stage of implant was done. I’m not sure How that would that work if you had it done in Turkey unless you could stay there for a few months? He did have slight complications so needed to keep going back for check ups but it’s taken about 6 months from start to finish.

ChicJoker · 31/08/2025 07:27

There are some fantastic clinics in turkey. I’ve had veneers here in the UK and work in turkey and turkeys level of care in general are much better than UK

the uk dentists that shun their work are collectively giving them a bad name so they don’t lose the money! And before anyone says otherwise, the veneers I had here were done by a very close friend who told me so.

Feargalthecat · 31/08/2025 07:28

My partner got his teeth done there along with extensive dental work. We holiday in Turkey anyway and went to a reputable dentist who has a large clinic which he’s worked from for the last 20 years. They have a number of specialists doing different treatments and are highly regarded in that area of Turkey.

Holident based in Fethiye if you want to look at their website/social media

Blankscreen · 31/08/2025 07:31

For some reason I get Turkey Teeth posts on my Facebook reel. There are some horror stories and terrible photos on there.

I don't have turkey teeth or even want them but I find reading the posts fascinating. The one thing I have picked up on is that. It can be very very difficult to get aftercare here.

Is there a less invasive (cheaper) option that you can get done in the UK?

For me if I couldn't afford to get it done in the UK then I wouldn't do it but I get that you are desperate.

linelgreen · 31/08/2025 07:34

Do not go to Turkey. Due to issues with my gums I had to have all my top teeth replaced two years ago. I had these done by my UK dentist and from start of process which was having the remaining teeth extracted to the final set of teeth took nearly 12 months and many visits to ensure a perfect finish. No way could this have been accomplished abroad. Yes UK is dearer but you get what you pay for and if things go wrong in Turkey you will find it very hard to get a UK dentist to repair any damage.

Maddy70 · 31/08/2025 07:38

Have you considered Spain? Top dentists but half the price of the UK

I have missing teeth from 30 years of builima
I couldn't cope with implants, and barely cope with going to the dentist at all.
So I had the cheapest NHS denture , because I didn't want anything like a bridge that can ruin the teeth it attaches to
Anyway ,my denture is brilliant,it's given me my confidence back ,I wear it all the time ,it looks natural, and absolutely no one ,not even my husband knows I wear a denture. .it's comfortable in my mouth ,and when I open my mouth you can't tell which teeth is the denture .. definitely recommend

This is a really good option. I've needed a denture since my forties due to botched cosmetic dentistry early on. I think in total over about 15 years it has cost less than £1000 and has needed replacing once every five years or so. Very natural looking and comfortable.

Icanflyhigh · 31/08/2025 07:48

Thanks all, your replies are appreciated.

I've had a denture before (4 years ago), but the part of it that sat on the roof of my mouth made me heave - I couldn't eat/drink with it in and I had an awful lisp.

It's definitely roaccutane that caused my issues, dentist confirmed this when I had xrays etc recently.
The bone in my jawline is good, my gums are good, it's literally my teeth that are crumbling.

I just don't think I can afford UK prices, but equally I hate hiding my mouth when I talk, smile etc. In fact, I don't smile much anymore, I'm very conscious of the gaps which you can see.

I know there are horror stories, and I need to read them.

Interestingly, a close relative had implants, full top set, in Poland over 25 years ago.
No issues with them, cost about 7k in total, including several trips to Poland, and UK aftercare was available.
So that might be an option I look at....

re implants - my memory of them is you need to do them within a certain time of losing your original roots.

I was told this when I had an implant about 20 years ago but I’ve had another gap for about 10 years and am about to get an implant (finally got round to it!) The x-rays/scans of that bit of jaw look the same as the other side and the dentist doesn’t see any issues. It’s also about the same price, possibly cheaper as my mum paid for it last time so I can’t remember exact cost. The technology has moved on, I guess!

soundsgreektome · 31/08/2025 07:52

I’m a dental nurse. Do not go abroad for treatment. I’ve seen a lot of “Turkey Teeth” from more than just Turkey. Unless you’re a dental professional you don’t know the difference between good and bad, and very bad treatment. Dentists here train for 5 years, for a reason, you pay more here, for a reason. They won’t want to touch you when you turn up at their door with problems with your done cheap abroad teeth - for a very good reason.

Consider getting finance here to cover it. We offer interest free, a lot of places will.

You get what you pay for. Your teeth, as you have found out, are a priority, they’re your smile, they’re what and how you eat, and are pretty important. Look after them.

I was going to suggest Spain too. Hubby is from Barcelona and they have some excellent hospitals and dental clinics there.

JustMyView13 · 31/08/2025 08:00

Buy cheap, buy twice.

AlertEagle · 31/08/2025 08:54

There are safer Eastern European countries and far cheaper than Turkey and much closer to the UK.

Irisilume · 31/08/2025 08:59

I had crowns done in Turkey 6 years ago and they are great, I've had no issues at all but obviously the quality depends on which clinic you go to. If you just need work on one or two teeth it probably isn't going to be any cheaper to travel abroad for it, as you'll need flights and accommodation etc.

BetweenTwoFerns · 31/08/2025 09:04

There is an implant centre in Brighton that is cheaper than average.

I think getting implants done elsewhere is ok as long as you do a lot of research first. I’ve had an implant done here in the uk and the whole thing took over a year from start to finish with probably ten to fifteen appointments.

Well that's not entirely accurate, is it? It's cheaper in Turkey because overheads, wages etc are cheaper in Turkey. Turkish dentists also train for 5 years...

I've had crowns in Turkey and they are really good quality (multiple UK dentists have said so). I've also had crowns done in the UK and US, and the "Turkey teeth" are much nicer by far. I think a lot of people go to the cheapest clinic they can find and ask for blinding white teeth, but you can definitely get good work done there.

Ginmonkeyagain · 31/08/2025 09:13

I would be wary of going abroad for implants. I have been having one single implant this year to replace a failed root canal (a result of poor dental work in my late teens).

I have no other fillings, all the surrounding teeth are healthy and strong. I also have very good bone density and healthy gums. The whole process will have taken seven months from start to finish. My dentist have been carefully checking healing and bone density at each stage and allows a few months before each new bit of work. There will have been ten appointments in total.

A lot can go wrong such as infection in your gum, failure of the bone to bond properly with the steel post etc..

You also feel pretty rotten at each stage, particularly after the tooth removal and insertion of the implant.
