Passenger escorted onto plane by armed officers

I took a flight from Germany to the UK yesterday and noticed at the gate were two armed officers waiting with a paper document at the gate. Then, that particular passenger was escorted onto the plane before anyone else, by both officers, they filled out paperwork before the rest were allowed onto the flight. No police were not with him on the flight though. He was in the front seat and very calm during the flight. What on earth was this about?? Lots of people were really worried

Must be a lie. We know everyone stands up as soon as the plane lands, police wouldn't be able to get through 😅

LittleGreenDuck · 30/08/2025 21:23

Denied entry probably. We had this in a European city last summer. We were delayed taking off and the announcement was that EasyJet had brought a passenger from UK who was not eligible to enter the European country. We had to wait for the paperwork to be completed and then he was escorted back onto the flight and sent home again.

Why? Police Officers in Europe tend to be armed.

As do our police at airports.... You can fight them as well, they don't use their guns

Concretejungle1 · 30/08/2025 21:24

Could have been a visa issue,
didn’t believe the reason he was coming into the country, ie saying tourist but they believe it was too work, couldn't show they had enough money to suppport themselves whilst they were there,
Wrong documents/passport not in date ( not enough months left but let through uk end) they will have escorted him back through and made sure he was on the plane.
he could not have been dangerous if police didn’t stay with him on the plane.

@OfftoWorkIGohe would have been escorted as he was not allowed in the country. Love how you would be keeping an eye on him. What exactly would you have done ?

How do you mean, like kicked out of the country? I thought it was so odd that the officers were heavily armed!

Airport police are always armed. I wouldn’t stress on it, just making sure that he’s behaving himself after being deported.

They all have arms abroard. Maybe he had served a prison term and was going home. This is the most likely

ThatWaryOchreQuoter · 31/08/2025 18:00

Was it EasyJet?

if he’s not done anything wrong as such …

Most likely He has probably been refused entry on arrival could be that he’s on a tourist visa and they have evidence that he is going to work , may have overstayed previously

So he gets deported back to the uk / wherever

the police follow on to the plane and give the captain his passport and to ensure he’s not going to do a runner

when he gets of the plane he is given his passport back no is bothered at the uk end. As he is back where he belongs where he has citizenship

don’t ask me how I know 😂😂

Aren’t all police officers in airports armed?

Yes

MayAsWellGiveUpNow · 31/08/2025 18:05

Sounds like he was being extradited. My husband was also extradited (calm down, everyone, it’s not as dramatic as it sounds) and he was taken onto the plane before anyone else and the process was similar.

mamagogo1 · 31/08/2025 18:08

most likely he was refused entry to Germany for some reason, it could be he was a British national who had been imprisoned in Germany, had served his sentence and was being deported or he was wanted by U.K. police and had been caught in Germany though i would expect an escort in that situation

OneMintWasp · 31/08/2025 18:11

My great aunt had this treatment once before when her employers (the military!) had messed up her Visa. A few decades ago now. She wasn't military herself, contracted by them, so was returning home on her own. She was effectively deported from the stop over airport by armed police. Handcuffed and marched on to the plane that she wanted to get on anyway! Once on the cuffs were removed. She said she stood at the front of the plane and told all the passengers what was going on because it was so humiliating.

Edited to say she was working in Germany a lot so could have been there.

Well yes, this isn’t America.

Killing someone for fighting you is ridiculous and frankly a nightmare for the entire airport and all passengers for god knows how many days.

massive escalation.

notimagain · 31/08/2025 18:12

Been involved in a few of these.

The individual was probably deemed Inadmissible by German authorities and so was being deported.

There are various tiers of handling, without going into details what you saw looks like fairly standard handling for many cases and I wouldn't expect announcements to be made

Most police (including airport police) most countries are armed by default so you'd expect to see sidearms.

Sallywag134 · 31/08/2025 18:13

He’s most likely being deported for some reason. And police in most airports are heavily armed.

WildFlowerBees · 31/08/2025 18:15

I believe we have sky marshals so there may have been one sitting at the back.

All police is armed in Germany routinely 🙄. Probably more so in Airports.

Sounds like he didn't have the correct visas etc and was sent back

Do Brits need visa to enter Germany?

Where in the world are you thinking of?

In any event not everyone who is deported or deemed inadmissible is assessed as needing a guard, armed or not.

I saw the crew side of this a few times and was briefed by officials on occasion...certainly every offender I was involved in carrying were quietly resigned to their fate and good as gold onboard

Clearly he was being deported or recalled back to the UK for a crime committed there. But if no cops met him at the other end it was probably deportation as the armed guards only needed to make sure he was off German soil then it's the UK's problem.

Gonners · 31/08/2025 18:41

Maybe he's spent more than 90 days out of 180 (or whatever it is) in the EU and the Germans were complying with the post-Brexit rules.
