Still two weeks to go and I’m really starting to flag. Energy levels are low and so is my bank account!

You’re nearly there!

shellyleppard · 25/08/2025 08:05

Yep I am. So are my children. They are teens and normally entertain themselves but they are getting bored now Lol

WilliamBell · 25/08/2025 08:06

It's a week and a couple of days surely? About six actual week days? Looking it like that is better than two weeks.

Not helpful for this year, but next year, have something fun planned for the final week.

Ah my kids are grown, but I well remember how endless the summer used to feel!

AhBiscuits · 25/08/2025 08:08

We're in Spain so that's helping. Just a few days left after we get back.

thinklagoon · 25/08/2025 08:10

@WilliamBell My kids don’t go back til 8 September! It’s two weeks.

OP, we’re also flagging and all childcare/clubs/activity camps etc stopped last week; just as we’re tapped out, the final two weeks are 100% together time. We’re packing the car this morning to decamp to my in-laws for a change of scenery: squabbling in someone else’s garden!

No, not for us, schools go back on the 8th (for the children) so two weeks today.

We are actually away for the first week of September, but I’m at the stage where that’s harder work than being at home. Don’t get me wrong, it will be nice, but I’m feeling so drained I’m struggling to feel massively excited or enthusiastic although I’m sure I’ll enjoy it when I’m there.

No. I’ve had 2 out of the 6 weeks off work and would love to have more time off with my kids to potter about and also to just chill out a bit more for me.

nonperfectparentsplease · 25/08/2025 08:23

So would I. Pottering has not happened and as for chilling for me - definitely not!

I am hoping it will get a bit easier as they get older. The eldest starts school in September and he left nursery at the end of July. He’s too young for a lot of organised activities which tend to be five plus and I think he’s missed his friends a bit although we’ve had play dates and a long weekend with some friends.

Anyone else think this was going to be a another roundabout flag thread 😀?

IDreamOfElectricSheep · 25/08/2025 08:26

I need longer holidays. I work part time and have had 2 weeks off but I need to wake up earlier during term time. I love my “lie ins” every day during the holidays.
Not looking forward to term starting.

MamaElephantMama · 25/08/2025 08:26

I’m frazzled but the end is in sight.

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/08/2025 08:28

Always loved the school holidays.

StressedOot3 · 25/08/2025 08:29

Mine went back last Wednesday and I'm flagging more now he's back than off 😂 when he was off I could get up later to wfh, he got himself up and went and done his own thing.

Now it's earlier rises, school drop off back for work. School clothes needing washed and ironed, fights to get him to shower and do homework. Rushing dinner straight after work to get to hobbies. I prefer it when they are off.

Middle starts college tomorrow so thatl be fun as she's a nightmare to get up and needs dropped off in the opposite direction to school.

nonperfectparentsplease · 25/08/2025 08:31

I think this is possibly age dependent; I don’t get lie ins as I also have a two year old. It’s giving me hope that one day I may enjoy a lie in over the summer though.

I thought you were using 'flag' as a verb and you going to put St George's flags on lamp posts!

Playdought · 25/08/2025 08:36

Could be worse - you could be in Ireland where from age 13 kids are off June , July and back today !!

It’s endless

AllJoyAndNoFun · 25/08/2025 08:38

Teen DS has had 10 weeks and I think even he is kind of looking forward to getting back now-1 week left but he has 3 days preseason sports training which will take a chunk of that. It’s been a great summer on account of the weather but we’re all ready for autumn now.

Loopylalalou · 25/08/2025 08:45

My daughter, aged 31, was remembering school holidays yesterday. We’re lucky enough to live on a farm and they used to go to work with their father with me taking two separate weeks over the six weeks to do something different - not that they we that bothered she recalled.
She and her brother had friends of a similar age nearby and the four had gradually expanding boundaries around doing light chores. They dug holes, the built camps, rode bikes, collected blackberries - and learnt self reliance and problem solving.
She now lives in a town and so wishes her soon-to-be-born child could grow up in the same way - as her baby cousin will do, as my son and his partner still live three doors from us. There is no answer but an awareness of this better way will stand her in good stead.

SushiDisco · 25/08/2025 08:47

I feel this🥲 We always book a little uk trip in the last week as it’s something to look forward to and the prices are always much cheaper then too!

MamaElephantMama · 25/08/2025 08:48

My teenager has been off since June and it’s not much easier than when they were young. Yes you have more freedom and flexibility but teens don’t always have plans everyday or want to do much.

WilliamBell · 25/08/2025 08:48

I think it can be harder with younger ones but if none of yours are in school yet then I wouldn't have chosen a term time nursery/to have the oldest one finish in July. You know for the younger ones now though!

I'm surprised how quickly it's gone and would like a few more weeks! Although it will be nice too not feel like I'm on a constant catch up at work with having random days off.

nonperfectparentsplease · 25/08/2025 08:48

We have as well and I wish I felt better about it but I’m just so tired now! I know I’ll enjoy it when I’m there, though.
