To go on a long cruise instead of renting?

I'm in my 60s and retired and my family home is being sold due to DH divorcing me as he has met someone else. I'm devastated and told a friend I was going to rent for a few months before buying while I get my head together. She said I should go on a 6 month cruise rather than renting as wouldn't cost much more and I'd get to see the world. I laughed but I'm seriously thinking about whether it is feasible. Anyone else done this?

I wouldn't because it would feel too claustrophobic for me, although I'm also maybe biased as have seen how much damage liner tourism can do.

I'm sorry your house sale fell through.

You now have the time to really plan ahead. Cost up paying for storage for your belongings.
Do lots of research on potential cruises. It doesn't have to be really long, maybe try a month to see how you get in.
How about a 2-3 week cruise to a destination you love so you get a week's stay ashore then get another cruise from there.
I believe it is possible to join cruises at most ports if call. Speak to a cruise specialist and watch lots of YouTube videos.

As an alternative see if you can get a deal on uk air b&b or holiday park out of season, have a few weeks at the seaside without the tourists. Bracing sea walks and time to plan your future.

OP you are inspiring a lot of women, we are all excited for your future.

I met a lady whilst cruising who did this. She just stayed on board and did the next and then the next and then the next cruise!! She absolutely loved it and said it was cheaper for her to do it than rent a property!

We met people in Mexico who rented really cheaply in Mexico City, one of them was newly divorced and doing it while they worked out what to do next ( Mexico City is gorgeous), recently met someone else driving across China and the stans. And randomly met a bloke in Scotland who was newly divorced and going round the world pet sitting.
