WIBU: DH & Sourdough supplies

Just had a row with DH.

Our flour is stored in labelled canisters across two shelves. DH typically moves the plain/sf flours to the higher less accessible shelf when he (daily) tops up his sourdough with bread flour. I know to check the labels carefully before I bake.

I’ve baked three times with the kids this fortnight and will be making pastry tomorrow for a family party. As such, I’ve moved the bread flour up so I could more easily get the sf/plain.

He's just burst in while I’m wfh and barrelled out of the house slamming doors because his pizza dough is ruined as he poured in self raising and he needs to buy more yeast to continue.

He’s now apologised for his temper but is adamant ‘his’ flour should always be kept in the same place.

WIBU to move it?

Not ok for him to throw a tantrum because he couldn’t be bothered to read the label.

Good idea to reorganise if you have cupboard space- we have high cupboards only DH can reach, so all his coffee making accoutrements and fad supplements go there.

@SirBasil

This is true. I've been in my house 23 years and only now I have a grown child have I reorganised things.

He can feed sourdough with all purpose flour rather than bread flour, WTF.

Sourdough and rye is really nice.

A little vital wheat gluten could have upped the protein to that of bread flour.

Is 'getting the Ooni out' some sort of euphemism?

Maybe 00 pizza flour?

NotMeNoNo · 21/08/2025 20:47

Clearer labels. We've all reached for something on autopilot and got the wrong thing.

DH is dyslexic and often mixes similar looking things up. Things in this house have to be labelled in big writing and ideally different colours too.

Is this all you have to worry about...🙁. WOW

Yeah this is literally the worst thing that’s ever happened to me- possibly anyone I’d imagine

Not the point of the thread but I regularly reorganise the kitchen cupboards and give them a good clean. Cba the cleaning without a shuffle round. Drives others mad, lighthearted, but I am the kitchen Queen.

Edited

I might totally fuck with him by leaving the flour as is but while he’s out completely moving everything else 😁

If you wanted to really escalate things you could mix up the contents of the jars and labels like some kind of cupboard based baking show. Is it self raising? Is it 00? Is it rat poison? It's a mystery!

Make sure you set up a camera first to capture the ensuing shenanigans and put on a jingly tune before you share them here.

Eventually he'll discover the flour is now in the cellar when the newly installed trapdoor opens while he's having a sweary rummage and drops him into a joyous reunion with it, swiftly followed by a satisfying whoompf noise and a mushroom cloud of flour in the kitchen.

It's that or his and hers cupboards, both locked with your own private key.
