Does this email sound too blunt?

Just want to check.

Hi X,

I’ve noticed issue Y. I didn’t do anything to cause it, and I’m not sure I can resolve it right now…

Thanks,

Best wishes

Why have you had to ask MN about such a basic email?

littlemissworry97 · 20/08/2025 15:54

DiscoBob · 20/08/2025 15:51

In that case it's fine. The boss knows you don't know how to fix it and wouldn't be expecting you to. So yeah, go ahead and send it. i just didn't want it to mean you ended up with more work!

I already sent it on Monday but I’ve since been privately cringing and worrying that it sounds rude, and that the boss will be thinking, ‘rude little b!tch’ 😅

Because I was worried that it sounds rude and that m boss might think so.

I would be doing my best to chat to him in person or on the phone about something else and then throw in at the end to clarify about it. Something along the lines of ‘did you see my email about xx? I was in a bit of a rush when I sent it, but just checking there’s nothing you need me to do with it?’

Don't worry! Is your boss really highly strung about the wording of extremely basic emails?

You really shouldn't fill your head with such concern over something so small. Unless the boss really is a megalomaniac psycho! Even then you've sent it now. And no, I wouldn't consider it rude at all.

Legomania · 20/08/2025 16:04

Op are you ND by any chance?

Thanks, I won’t see him in person for a while. I don’t like to ring him out of the blue… not unless it’s semi-urgent.

It is but I was worried it might sound flippant and rude on reflection. I don’t want to come across that way at work!

Never diagnosed, not sure. I soemfimes
wonder if I’m on the ASD spectrum as I sometimes overthink and second guess social interactions, including written ones.

Hi Boss,

I’ve noticed Jackie and Brian are going at it like rabbits again in the canteen. I didn’t do anything to cause it, and I’m not sure I can resolve it right now…

Thanks

Someone edited it, so I guess for some people it's blunt. I think it was fine as is.

Way too blunt and definitely screams "it wasn't my fault". If I was the boss I wouldn't be best impressed with your email.

I agree, I can't imagine a work situation when I'd type that, it sounds like a child rushing to say it wasnt me, I didn't do it, it was June in HR

It is a small issue and it is unlikely that I would’ve done anything to cause it though….

Yes but to actually say that makes it seem more, not less likely that you had something to do with it

littlemissworry97 · 20/08/2025 16:35

It is a small issue and it is unlikely that I would’ve done anything to cause it though….

So why make a point of saying you didn't?
If I were your boss and you sent me an email saying there is this issue, and I knew you were unlikely to have done anything to cause it, then why would I blame you for it? Saying "it wasn't me that caused it" makes me wonder whether you did do something that contributed towards it ...

sandyhappypeople · 20/08/2025 17:17

What an odd email to send... not only is it blunt it makes it sound like you could fix it but don't want to, or you could but you can't right now, or you don't know if you can or not? but then you don't go on to say anything else to clarify what is happening.

I’ve noticed issue Y. I didn’t do anything to cause it, and I’m not sure I can resolve it right now…

Thanks

you are basically saying I've noticed this but it's not my fault and not my problem, so I'm not going to do anything about it!

That's not the point, the fact that you've put that in the email isn't professional imo

Why wouldn't you just say FYI this has happened and attach the photo?
