I’ll start by saying I know this isn’t Tattle Life, but I’ve just caught up on instagram and Britney’s latest posts are truly horrifying and upsetting. As someone who grew up with her (& Christina) as my idols it’s so saddening to see what’s happened.

Has anyone else watched?

Isn't this one of the problems about the wider thinking about mental health.

Over the last 10 years or so, there has been trend to say 'everyone has mental health', anxiety etc. But this makes it seem fixable. Take a walk etc.

But severe mental health can be so damaging to the person and everyone around them. It just doesn't compare.

“people with obvious mental illness should not be seen in public”.

it’s exactly this. As a society we have become so uncomfortable with mental illness. We would rather such people were locked away and medicated, which often results in zero quality of life for those affected but as long as it suits social norms right? So what if Brittany makes demented videos on insta. She’s not well, but she’s living her life with autonomy and she’s not hurting anyone.

I think it would probably be better for her not to make them. If you or I post demented videos on Instagram they get watched by a few dozen close friends, which is a bit different from being watched by millions of people and talked about on internet forums ... But even if one of my friends was posting like this I'd probably be suggesting she stop.

I still think the previous conservatorship arrangements were abusive - and probably haven't helped her not to do this sort of thing. She needs a kind, supportive person to look after her and it's not clear she's getting that.

She still has a really beautiful singing voice even if she's too drugged up to sing clearly.

How is it clear she’s not getting a kind or supportive person looking after her?

i spent months of my life supporting a mentally unwell relative, speaking to police and hospitals, sorting somewhere to live, trying to engage appropriate healthcare. As well as just being there. I would take upwards of 100 phone calls every day (I’m not exaggerating).

they posted on socials. But the reality was utterly horrific and far worse than online people saw.

I find it maddening that there’s the view poor mental health can be fixed by someone caring. It can’t!

isolate34 · 19/08/2025 21:52

Yes she's clearly mentally unwell, and of course it's sad to see someone who doesn't appear happy or stable. But I do feel a lot of the posters /commenters expressing extreme concern maybe don't have much experience of severe mental illness. From what we, the public see, I don't think she is doing anything that should cause a huge uproar, there are millions of people with serious mental illness, and although Britney has other complex issues, her being a celebrity and so famous is why people are concerned, not because her behaviour is that concerning for a person living with a serious mental illness. I do wonder why people continue to watch her videos if they find them so deeply disturbing, almost feels like morbid curiosity, along with all the speculation about something happening to her in the near future. If the videos disturb and upset you, simply don't watch. She's allowed to post them. And for people saying about someone stepping in to save her is quite laughable, I'd like to hear exactly what they would suggest to eliminate mental illnesses as a family member of someone suffering with one?

Same and agree it is totally heartbreaking. Especially seeing the clip of her back in the day singing / lip syncing along to ‘She’s so lucky’ and then seeing her recent tik tok video clips. She is seriously mentally unwell. I predict that she will die an early death. Her demise will likely be drugs or suicide, or a combination of the two. It’s like watching a modern day Marilyn Monroe unfold before our very eyes.

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 19/08/2025 15:05

The conservatorship could be toxic and abusive AND she could have needed a valid, protective one. Both can be true.

I agree with this. I follow her on insta and have thought she was ill for ages but US conservatorship is an absolute scandal. It's nothing like our Court of Protection which itself is often criticised for lack of transparency.

Well maybe “poor mental health CANT be fixed by someone caring” but it certainly helps to have some people who care. Britney’s caregivers / family didn’t care one iota when she needed them. Her choice of partners has been shit poor. She apparently consumes drugs with her son. Who really cares a toss about her other than her fans, people she will never know in real life. Very sad.

Coolasfeck · 20/08/2025 04:37

SpaceRaccoon · 19/08/2025 17:40

Absolutely this. Psychotropic meds prescribed too young absolutely wrecked the health of one of my close friends. It's crazy how trigger happy they are with that stuff over there.

My friend wasn't even mentally ill! She'd had a physical illness with a side effect that was causing her distress (not irrationally), and that was where it went.
I'm sorry your friend had her health wrecked.

Yes oversubscription is ridiculous in the US. I recall on one trip, DH and I laughing about the medical adverts which encouraged you to take pills for the most ridiculous of reasons. Things along the lines of ‘do your eyes blink too much?, millions of Americans are benefitting from Eyeblink Stop, ask your doctor about it today’.

She was an idol to me, and that version of herself will always be. I am deeply saddened at what she has become and hope that she can one day stabilize.

Where has the rumour about her doing drugs with her son come from? I thought they bad very little contact.

TessTickle0 · 20/08/2025 10:45

I've not been on Instagram for awhile.
The bread baking one is very bizarre and sad.
I remember reading a book by the horror author john Saul when I was a teenager.
It featured an aging ex ballerina who was suffering a mental illness, she lived alone and would dress up and wear heavy make up and preform recitals to imaginary audiences.
Isn't this really what Britney is doing?
I can see her still dressing and dancing like this into her late 60s.
Very sad.
Lots of her "dancing' kids have dog shit in the background.
In some ways what she's doing isn't so different to the dances and stupid clips amanda holden and Ashley robwerts are forever putting out,imo they are worse because as far as I know they don't suffer from any mental illness...just love themselves.

People keep saying this, but you have to WANT help.

Unless she is doing something that warrants sectioning (do they even have this in the US?), it is up to her to accept help.

People need to stop putting the onus on those around addicts. You have no idea on the lengths they have probably gone to, to get her to seek help. It doesn't work unless they want it and accept it. It is never the fault of the people around them. Never.

That’s not Britney on her instagram! Trust me! It’s someone impersonating her! If you follow decoding celebrities she explains a lot and it’s quite obvious that’s not Britney.

Why would someone impersonate her on Instagram?

What would they gain from that?

Because they are still earning from her, I personally think she is in hiding. All this you are seeing with her drink driving and all that it’s a scandal. It’s all a load of BS.

Of course, it is highly likely she has a life long, serious mental health condition, probably exasperated by drugs alcohol and the extreme stress of fame.

she was also, at the time, very vulnerable to financial fraud. Somehow, as far as we know, she seems to have improved on that front.

but there is no sign she is a danger to herself or others. She’s just illl.

No she sold her back catalogue because she's run out of money and she's got a very expensive drug habit and enablers all around her. So she's not got less likely to be a victim of financial fraud lately. Probably more so.

There are still loads of ways a celebrity earns even if they don’t do tours and make new music. But I really don’t think it’s her.

Have you read her book? She was put into a mental home by her father, she didn’t want to go and then she was put on drugs she didn’t want to be on, he used to threaten her with her kids if she didn’t obey. This woman went through hell because of her own father, even Kevin ferderline was part of it all because he had custody of the kids and was getting child maintenance and could keep up living the life of luxury. She had to do tours and perform when she didn’t want to but did because she wanted to see her children. She was constantly harassed and exposed by the papers and social media making up stories about her all the time.
