Dad blocking path with toddler on the potty

I was in a local woods today, having a nice walk. It’s mostly paths but can be a bit narrow in places and overgrown.

Turned a corner and there, smack bang in the middle of the path was a child sat on a potty. With the dad hovering over with a baby wipe.

It wasn’t a massive inconvenience but we had to veer off the path into bushes to get past. There were plenty of clearings off the path the dad could have taken the child so 1, they were not in the bloody way, and 2 to provide a bit of privacy and dignity to the child.

AIBU or is this just utterly bizarre and entitled behaviour?

You’re not being unreasonable. He should at least have apologised for blocking the path, which any reasonable person would do, whatever the blockage may be.

Did he at least apologise for blocking the path?

Oh God!! Honestly if someone had of dared say that me to... they would have got the biggest eye roll. I think its not ideal whipping a potty out but expecting a child to hold their wee because OP doesn't see fit is very unreasonable not to mention mean spirited. What was the actual harm done?

He was a rude selfish TWAT! That’s why!!

I've never potty trained but could it be the start of the process and it was a case of whip the potty out and shove it underneath the child as they started to go? Or is that not how it works?

Zanatdy · 17/08/2025 21:01

I can’t imagine how this small inconvenience would affect my day. Non issue.

Hiphopahip · 17/08/2025 21:05

Portable potty’s are very much a thing, just for those of you who clearly have never seen one. They are designed to be taken out.

It sounds a bit odd but it can’t imagine still giving this any thought after the event and I wouldn’t call it entitled.

I agree op. I had a child sat taking a shit next to me as I sat at the gate waiting to board a flight. The toilets were less than 50m away. It’s grim for the child, everyone around them and completely unnecessary.

That scenario is completely different in my mind- being caught short outdoors (although I do agree he could possibly have had time to get to a more open area/apologise to OP), nobody there at the time, but OP shortly appeared and needed to get past. As opposed to placing a potty next to someone in an indoor environment, where loos are nearby (having a toddler I do understand the urgency of not being able to get to the loos in time, but I would at least aim for a big open space away from people!).

I don't understand. I've not suggested the OP should have said anything /demanded an apology, or that I would have said something to the man and child. But I would make the judgement in my head that someone was being rude if they blocked a path for any reason and didn't offer an apology.

I’ve potty trained 2 myself I know how it works. But he could have even moved to the side of the path rather than smack bang in the middle of it.

I guess I am being U, though.

Yes, you are.
