I am quite honestly never going to get over this. It was my birthday yesterday and as my partner works away he arranged for something to be sent to the house, along with flowers and a helium balloon.

A few weeks ago we had a leak from the bathroom, pretty bad, leaking down the walls and through our light sockets. The plumber came and fixed the leak, however 2 days later it’s leaking again, no where near as bad luckily as we caught it in time. He comes again and haven’t had an issue since.

Today I’m sat having a coffee and I notice a patch around the same area. Furious I phone the plumber to tell him the problem STILL isn’t sorted and he needs to come back as soon as possible, as I’m meeting friends in another city at lunch time and I wouldn’t dare leave it like that.

Plumber comes, it’s not a fucking leak, it’s the shadow from the helium balloon.

Brilliant 😁

My DM once took her car back to the garage after a service and complained about it making a knocking noise, going on at some length about the fact it hadn't been doing it before the service and all she'd done since was a 12 mile round trip for groceries.

After the garage had removed the rogue tin of beans that was rolling around under the passenger seat she did apologise...

If she drops in biscuits, chocolates and ice cream to the workshop team she'll be customer of the month!

Absentmindedsmile · 13/08/2025 20:19

That was A Lot less of an embarrassing event than I anticipated. Disappointing

NinaGeiger · 13/08/2025 20:23

Took my car to the garage and said it was making a funny noise. The mechanic said "can you replicate it?"
I thought he meant can you do an impression of it.

He didn't.

SellingBananas · 13/08/2025 20:40

I've done this too- but it was the shadow from a new lampshade Blush

Years ago I called in an electrician because my cooker wouldn't turn on.

Turned out I'd pressed the timer button when I'd cleaned it so I'd instructed it to stay Off......

Amazingly he didn't charge me anything at all - I offered of course - but I think he'd enjoyed the laugh and was looking forward to relating the tale down the pub........😕

😂😂

I would have done an impression too…….

Cranberryavocado · 13/08/2025 20:53

This is very funny and makes me feel better about the time I called the locksmith as the front door was jammed. And he discovered the problem was that I hadn't unlocked the bloody chubb lock 😂

Hardlyworking · 13/08/2025 20:54

I wouldn't worry about it. In a past life I was a service engineer for bosch. At least 2 or 3 times a month I'd be called out to a customer with a new appliance not turning on. Without fail the power lead wouldn't be fully inserted.

Always made my day as I was paid per callout 😂

I called an emergency electrician for an urgent appointment as I’d put up a shelf in the kitchen and now there was no power to the whole of the downstairs so I’d obviously drilled through a Very Important wire and I was due a food delivery but couldn’t let the cold air out the fridge or freezer. After a very short inspection he diagnosed that I’d just forgotten to switch the power back on 🙈. I think he could tell I was pretty embarrassed as he was very kind and didn’t charge me

I actually was about to call an electrician last week as one of the bedrooms top light had not worked for a week and I finally got round to digging out their number, was about to call and had a brain wave that it could be the bulb.. it was!

TheBobbysAreSurly · 13/08/2025 20:58

Don't feel bad!
I once pushed my motorbike four miles home in the rain thinking it had some sort of blockage in the fuel line. When DP had a look l'd just forgotten to turn it on to reserve ...
I've also done the summoning of IT to fix something l'd unplugged the previous evening and not plugged back in again 🤦‍♀️

GlastoNinja · 13/08/2025 20:59

I called a locksmith out to mend the door. He walked up to it and opened it. I’d never tried it but everyone told me it was broken. He still charged me £60

Naturally I’ve blamed my husband for buying me the helium balloon

The unfeeling bastard? How are your patio skills?

ThePure · 13/08/2025 21:01

I once took my baby to the GP because she had a new mole on her foot. I had got myself wound up that it was an acral melanoma but actually it was a perfectly ordinary mole.

‘It’s a NEW mole though Dr’ I said and I could see him switching into ‘this one is hard of thinking’ mode as he patiently explained that new moles are only a concern in adults. Babies and children get new moles all the time. This was a concept that had actually never occurred to me before

The most shameful thing about this whole anecdote is that I am a Dr and had managed to get all
through medical school without realising that it’s normal for babies to get new moles Blush

I have a fairly rare but kind of well known Scottish name, someone academic once started telling me the history of the name and I was utterly amazed to hear it was from Persia, I love history so I was blown away but this as I always thought it was totally Scottish, i started asking loads of questions, cradle of civilisation and all that, saying my dad wouldn't believe it etc etc - -they let me finish and then politely told me they'd actually said Perthshire... About 40mins away from where we were. Cringe

KPPlumbing · 13/08/2025 21:10

I asked an IT guy to come to my desk as my computer had gone totally out of control, and was typing a random sequence of letters into a Word document on its own!

He came over, maintained eye contact with me, and nudged the note book that was resting on the keys on the key pad.

I can make you feel better OP....

Many years ago, DD had to go to the dental hospital in the city to have two back teeth extracted under anaesthetic. It involved an early start, parking some distance from the hospital, and all the trauma of the extraction with a young and nervous child. Once it was all over, we gratefully drove home to our village and I made her some lunch.

Two hours later she came to me, highly distressed, and showed me her mouth. At the back of her mouth, where the teeth had been extracted, she had two nasty looking boils or abscesses, and was very upset. So we duly got back in the car, drove back to the city, parked a mile from the hospital and walked back there.

The dental surgeon and the team were very concerned when they examined her, and mystified as to what was happening. It was all very worrying. Eventually one of them asked what she had had for lunch.

A cold, clammy hand of realisation seized my heart.

She'd got a baked bean stuck in each cavity.

I couldn't get out of there fast enough...

This made me laugh out loud in my quiet house so the neighbours may think I've lost my marbles due to the heat!😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you so much for posting, you have really cheered me up!!
(Also: I can sympathise, it's the sort of thing I would do too!!)
