If you lost weight, how did you do it?

Just looking for tips. Since being prescribed Mirtazapine (I’ve been on this for over a year.) I’ve noticed that I’ve put on weight and my clothes don’t fit me anymore.

I’m 29 and I’m 5ft 2, but I don’t know how much I weigh as I haven’t got scales in the house. I’ve made an appointment with my GP to ask for a medication change as Mirtazapine makes me hungry all of the time, which isn’t helping.

Does anyone have any tips for me in order to lose some weight please?

I don’t drink alcohol or fizzy drinks at all. My issue is my constant stacking.

Calorie counting. Lost 16 stone and kept it off.

RhaenysRocks · 12/08/2025 08:44

Until you know the scale (😁) of the problem it's hard to know what level of help is needed, a few tweaks or a full on lifestyle adjustments but I'll tell you how this will go:
Eat less move more
No, it's not that simple
Keto
Intermittent Fasting
Low Càrb
That made me ill
Weight loss injections
Kabooom!!!! Thread hijack about whether WLI is cheating/ deadly / miracle cure.

Good luck op ..see you GP and go from there.

Mounjaro - I was a shocking snacker. My portion sizes were massive.

My friend is on Mounjaro and it has worked wonders for her. I wish this was an option for me, but I just can’t afford it - unfortunately!

I really recommend eating high volume low calorie. Lots of veg, fish, chicken, pulses, cottage cheese, eggs. It stops the need for snacking. Use an online tool to work out a calorie deficit and really stick to it. I’m 46 and 5ft2 and have managed to lose a stone in a few months. I wasn’t massively overweight to begin with.

luckylavender · 12/08/2025 08:51

Ww - tried and failed loads of times but the app is a total game changer for me. Lost 75lbs. Kept it off. Feel marvellous. I am 63.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 12/08/2025 08:51

You could try a free trial of noom which might help you work out what drives the snacking.
It would recommend you weigh yourself every day to take the "ooft" out of it.

If you can get to the point of noticing you want a snack but not snacking, that will help. Cbt type approaches can help with that.

why not try it for 2 months. It’s about £100 a month in the lower doses. You’ll save money on junk food/snacks/booze and your weekly shopping anyway.
I’ve lost just over 3 stone and I’d have thrown that cash at someone if they’d told me they’d take my fat away

SpaceRaccoon · 12/08/2025 08:52

I feel for you as mirtazipine is notorious for weight gain.

I've recently lost quite a bit of weight through exercise (weights, running) and eating unprocessed food and very limited sugar. I also kind of naturally intermittant fast as I'm never hungry till later in the day.

I pile on weight really really quickly if I'm inactive and eat a lot of sugary things.

I know that working out doesn't directly burn masses of calories but it seems to regulate my appetite and metabolism.

Elephantonabroom · 12/08/2025 08:52

Very simple - eating less via IF.

How can I get it for £100 please ?

RhaenysRocks · 12/08/2025 08:55

Go to Monj website. It ists all the legit pharmacies that supply it with their weekly discounts etc. If a pharmacy does not ask you to jump through some hoops to prove your weight / height etc it's dodgy. @MickGeorge22 . The lowest dose of 2.5 which h some people never move beyond is around or just over £100

FenderStrat · 12/08/2025 08:56

Eat less.
Move more.

Ekkekkkeekkkekk · 12/08/2025 08:57

Keto. Does the exact same job as GLP1 if you prioritise protein at least 40g per meal. And it’s free.

Lost 8 stone and kept it off for almost 10 years now.

MyIvyGrows · 12/08/2025 08:59

Eating healthily and exercising a lot.

BologneseGurl · 12/08/2025 09:00

Yes OP and I’m exactly the same height as you!

Anyway - in the last 5 days I’ve lost 8lb by sticking to a

1000 calorie a day diet

at least 30 minutes run every day - some days twice

Hand weights after my run every other day

Twistedfirestarters · 12/08/2025 09:00

Hang on a minute those of you recommending WLI, this lady doesn't even know how much she weighs. She may well not be suitable for the jabs if her clothes have just stopped fitting her and she wasn't overweight before.

Teddlesisagoodboy · 12/08/2025 09:01

I have been struggling for years to lose about a stone, done everything, gym, running, yoga, eat healthy etc etc nothing was working until I signed up for Nutracheck and started counting calories. I'm 5'2 as well and a bit of weight really shows up on me. Now I know exactly what to aim for and I've lost 7 pounds in about 3 months, nice and steady and slow. I'm overjoyed!

Geneticsbunny · 12/08/2025 09:03

I lost a stone by calorie counting very strictly for a month for 2 days a week (800 calories a day) . I also did 16:8 the other days so only ate between 11am and 7pm I. E. No breakfast. Have stuck with the 8 hour eating window and have kept the weight off 6 months later.

I second this, I'm 36 and the same height (5ft 2), wasn't really overweight to start with but in April this year I wanted to lose the bit of weight I'd put on over the last 12 months. Didn't really calorie count as such, but made a real conscious effort to increase my protein. Still had carbs, but not as much and amped up the veg. Exercised 3-4 times a week and still had the occasional glass of wine. Lost 1st 4lb and now at my pre kids weight again, if not a bit lower. I've found my healthy eating habits have also stuck and it just comes naturally now x

Twothurty · 12/08/2025 09:05

Calorie counting and scale watching

Cutting out processed foods

Long term, only eat (healthy) meals that are visually stimulating and taste great. Being disappointed in a meal leads me to cheer up food!

Avoiding snacking is down to motivation and self control which is bloody hard but not impossible.
Dont have snacky foods in the house if you can / don’t have them where you can see them often. Set yourself rewards if you manage not to snack, a new book, nail polish whatever, if you’re good for a few days/ week. Make them reachable and things that give you a genuine buzz.
Noom was great for me to help with self control and snacking

Good luck.

Yes this !!!

and chicken breast slices are BRILLIANT for being filling and low calorie

if you buy them pre packed from supermarkets it’ll tell you exactly how many cals are in them!

I’m on mounjaro too and think it’s fantastic, but it certainly hasn’t saved me money on food. (I am 12 weeks in and still have a very good appetite). I’m eating loads of fruit and veg, which is lovely and healthy, but not cheap. Unless you really spent a fortune on a few takeaways a week and loads of alcohol don’t bank on saving money.

urbanbuddha · 12/08/2025 09:08

Homemade soup. Always have some available so you can have that instead of snacks. And limit your sugary snacks right down till you’re at one a day, weekends only.

DeirdreChambersWhatACoincidence · 12/08/2025 09:08

I've lost 3 stone in the last year by using Nutracheck. I can't eat as low as 1000/1200 calories or I feel terrible and can't function- I'm nearly six feet tall and on my feet all day. So I've stuck to about 1600.

I can't afford WLI, I don't buy junk food or alcohol anyway, my problem has always been just eating too much of the home made stuff!

I'm going for another 3 stone this next 12 months.
