To never be able to find nice, wide fit trainers?!

Just ordered some trainers recommended on Mumsnet Swears By which arrived this morning - nice style but so narrow - sending them back! Any recommendations please for trainers which fit wider feet with some support and comfort? Seems an impossible task at the moment! Thanks!

M&S or Clarks?

Venalopolos · 11/08/2025 12:22

I’m a barefoot convert, but one with narrower feet. I’ve bought Feelgrounds and Koels which I genuinely think look nice as well as being foot shaped so my feet aren’t squashed at the toe.

BarefootBrit on instagram and Facebook has LOADS of reviews and examples of different styles and she has extremely wide feet. Some of them so look a bit “clown shoe” ish, but I think you can also find stylish examples.

Hotter or Sketchers.

AzureStaffy · 11/08/2025 12:24

The best I've found are Topo athletic but I share your frustration that many wide fit trainers/boots aren't wide, especially in the toe box. Naturcontact are good too.

SunnyCycling · 11/08/2025 12:24

For running new balance do a women’s wide fit D but not sure about a “fashion” trainer. I always struggle with other shoes.

slidingsideways · 11/08/2025 12:26

Maybe you could give us a bit more steer on what you are looking for? Nice is very subjective as we all have such different style. Agree it can be hard to find something comfortable and stylish!

Have you tried New Balance? On their website you can filter shoes by width and many styles are available in a wide or extra wide fit.

I find Nike Air Force ones to be good and I have wide feet. Not super stylish but lots of colours/variations. I can walk for hours in them and they are super comfy.

Thingsthatgo · 11/08/2025 12:29

Vans are always wide on me. Do you want trainers for sport or for style?

Beat me to it! I’d happily wear plenty of their wide fit styles for everyday, there some under the Lifestyle category, not just running shoes. But it really depends on the person and what they like!

Gabor or ecco

Verv · 11/08/2025 12:34

I just buy mens.

Van34 · 11/08/2025 12:37

Birkenstock do great trainers with loads of width anf arch support

Dingledongledell · 11/08/2025 12:38

For running? Inov8 do excellent wide fit options.

FireAdvice · 11/08/2025 12:39

New balance and asics suit my wide feet.

TwoLeggedGrooveMachine · 11/08/2025 12:41

I’ve got very wide feet and find New Balance really comfortable just as an everyday trainer. I wear ASICS for running and they are really comfortable.

C4tintherug · 11/08/2025 12:42

I run marathons and have fat feet!
I always wear men’s trainers as they are made wider. New balance generally is a wider fit than other makes.
asics do a “wide fit” (ee) trainer. If you go on sports shoes.com you can search by wide fit shoes.
on running also do wide fit shoes but as their shoes generally come up wide, I fit in a mens shoe in that brand.
Nike are generally narrow fitting.

Hotter or Sketchers.

I was just going to suggest that these two are the FUGLIEST that is always recommended on here.

minipie · 11/08/2025 12:45

New Balance but only the 574s. Other styles are narrower IME.

Asics are wider at the toe box but not the heel so depends if this suits you (it does me).

WhatHaveIFound · 11/08/2025 12:46

I wear Hoka as they have two widths for most of their shoes. Plus they suit my arthritic foot.

devildeepbluesea · 11/08/2025 12:48

Couldn’t get on with NB. I have a massive bunion and only Brooks will do for me. I used to wear Saucony but they’ve got much narrower recently.

PandaCwtch · 11/08/2025 12:59

Do you have "wide" feet? This seems like a stupid question, but I'm not sure if your problem is that you have fairly normal width feet and the brand(s) you are trying are just very narrow, or if you have wide feet and so need wide fit shoes.

If you have actually wide feet, when buying online, look for outlets that allow you to filter by width. Women's standard width is B, women's wide fit is D. If you've got quite big feet, you could shop men's as the standard fit is D (wide is EE).

If the shoes you have tried are just a bit tight, it may be that the particular brand is a narrower shoe. If they are tight in the toe only, look for a brand with a wider toe-box (these are often specifically advertised as such, or as natural foot shaped shoes).

Cheezewizz · 11/08/2025 13:02

New balance 574 have a very roomy toe box and converse and vans also have wide fit version

IntoTheFringe · 11/08/2025 13:04

Sporty trainers or everyday fashion trainers? I have wide feet. I like Brooks for running and Hoff (the City style) or Superga for daily wear. For a white trainer I like veja campo or esplar. Not V10s - they squash my little toes.

Gettingbysomehow · 11/08/2025 13:05

Try DB shoes they do all kinds of wide.

I'd sooner wear Frankinstein shoes than do any kind of sports in painful shoes 😅 Comfort is king in my world within reason.
