To never be able to find nice, wide fit trainers?!

Just ordered some trainers recommended on Mumsnet Swears By which arrived this morning - nice style but so narrow - sending them back! Any recommendations please for trainers which fit wider feet with some support and comfort? Seems an impossible task at the moment! Thanks!

New Balance but only the 574s. Other styles are narrower IME.

Asics are wider at the toe box but not the heel so depends if this suits you (it does me).

Was just coming on to say NB 574. All I wear

Men's HOKA are PERFECT for my wider flat feet. Good support, no pain. The normal width is wider than women's. I like the balanced rather than plush.

Fyi quite a few brands have exactly the same looking shoe for men and women, but men's is wider and comes with sizes above 41...

bumbaloo · 11/08/2025 13:26

Hoka do some styles in wide fit. You can filter on their website
New Balance tend to be wider anyway but you can also filter for Wide and Extra Wide which are very wide

I have pair of Nike waffle trainers that are great
At the time I tried on some super chunky Nikes and they were mega comfy but I thought they looked a bit weird and oversized as I'm short.

I think you need to try trainers on tbh.

NB do specific models in wide and extra wide

Thanks so much for all the suggestions which I'm working through! I wear trainers for everyday use but now have a bunion and a corn on the same foot so my wide feet are getting wider and with wearing sandals in the summer I now seem to have developed plantar fasciitis so I've got it all going on! (Waiting for an appointment at foot clinic!) Just need something that is nice, wide, supportive for walking but doesn't squash feet or look too clunky! The holy grail!

Saucony or Altra's.

Mary46 · 11/08/2025 16:10

Have a look at yours clothing. I def saw trainers in E width fittings and EE

slidingsideways · 11/08/2025 16:25

Next have a selection of their own brand and other brand shoes and trainers in wide fit, too

Definitelynotme2022 · 11/08/2025 16:29

Have a look at Skechers, but also Jones the Bootmakers do some wide fit trainers. Have you looked at M & S?

I have wide feet, and also need arch support. My most comfortable ones are New Balance - I think they're T500's (or very similar style, anyway). I have a couple of pairs of 327's, but they're a tiny bit on the tight side. I wear them with tights or very thin socks.

Edited to add: I had plantar fascitis too, but lots of stretching really helped. In the summer, I find Birkenstocks are the absolute best thing for it. Just make sure whatever you're has good heel and arch support. No flipflops (unless they're Archies ime).

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 11/08/2025 16:29

I like Fitflop trainers for everyday wear.

womananddog · 11/08/2025 16:32

I have bunions sadly and wear Gabor wide fit trainers for work. The podiatrist has given me some insoles to put inside.

Confabulations · 11/08/2025 17:06

Inov8 all the way. For running and walking.

StrawberrySquash · 11/08/2025 17:10

Drives me mad! Yes New Balance do a wide, but only in running, not fashion. I buy the men's as they are wider. The stores don't stock wide though so you can't try on.

MarxistMags · 11/08/2025 17:14

Men's trainers seem to more wider fitting.
A lot of them are unisex so worth a try at Sports Direct.

Monvelo · 11/08/2025 17:16

Brooks

Tubatuber · 11/08/2025 17:46

My podiatrist recommended Hoka but not wide enough for me. I got some nice Fitville ones last year, most of their styles are naff though.

singthing · 11/08/2025 17:50

I buy New Balance mens styles for exercise, and size up in Fitflop trainers for normal wear.

I was so surprised to see this as I used to find them narrow but I’ve just googled and see they redesigned entirely in 2024 and are now available in wide fit. Thanks!

Brooks

2nd this. I have wide feet, a bad foot and had plantar fasciitis.

Bought some Brooks to try c25k and it was wonderful.

Had the same pair for about 4 years now.

Sheggsie · 11/08/2025 17:57

New Balance are wide fit.

Monvelo · 11/08/2025 18:07

New balance were no good for me. Brooks are best. And some Merrells.

Peanutbutterflies · 11/08/2025 18:14

Second taking a look at barefootbrit
She's great!
I love hobibear which is a German brand...wide foot but not completely barefoot

They have always been available in wide fit. Different styles were different widths and they had a bespoke width fitting which was almost indecipherable. They have now aligned their terminology to standard industry descriptors.
