Coffees in London are around £4 now. I definitely don’t get one myself every day, but between me and my husband we definitely average out at spending this per day just on coffee. We just worked out, spending £4 a day on coffee every day, is almost £1,500 a year. Just on takeaway coffee. Insane. Over 20 years, that’s just under £30,000…

Hair every six weeks at £200 a time, plus nails every 3 weeks at £40. So over £2k per annum

Gardening. I dread to think how much I spend!

OliviaBonas · 10/08/2025 22:20

I’ve given up Diet Coke. After one year, I’m going to total what I would have spent and buy something nice.

SomeOfTheTrouble · 10/08/2025 22:21

Oh this is amazing! I gave up Diet Coke for 5 months and it was great, have started again now though. And what’s more annoying is I waste more money on buying it individually as I try not to have it in the house in bulk. Please update one day on how much you save!

Crap snacks in the weekly shop
Eating out for convenience
Buses/tubes - a bike would save me a fortune, but I'm too scared to cycle!

My Vinted addiction. I dread to think how much I've spent in the last year. I've dropped 2 dress sizes which means I've had to buy "new to me" clothes but I've gone OTT.

Dogaredabomb · 10/08/2025 22:27

I gave up smoking a couple of months ago, £20 per day 😬

I remember swearing I would give up when a pack reached a tenner.

Limmers14 · 10/08/2025 22:28

Recently gave up a cleaner (£100 a month) and stopped getting my nails done regularly (£45 every 3 weeks).

Money saved from a cleaner is going into parental leave savings - we’re doing IVF, positive manifestation over here.

A small thing I could give up which would save money is probably Pilates? I could do it at home with a free online class and save £80 a month haha

Wishing you the best of luck with your IVF. Everything crossed for you.

Nails, CACI facial and IPL hair removal = £2,000pa

I have an expensive sporting hobby that costs me around £5,000pa - I could pretty much do it for free if I gave up doing it competitively and only did it “for fun”.

GoodLaudanum · 10/08/2025 22:34

Buying tonnes of seeds and plants every Spring with every intention of nurturing them. I don't.

Cinaferna · 10/08/2025 22:37

Taking people out for dinner. For decades I thought being able to take an entire group of people out for dinner was the height of sophistication and generosity and I longed to do it. Then finally I earned enough to do it occasionally but I do it far too bloody often. I would save a few grand a year if I stopped. But I love doing it. And what is money for, once you have covered the basics? I don't buy expensive clothes. Never had my nails done, ever. Only get a hair cut twice a year. Never buy takeaways.

DH does this. It drives me nuts.

The gym, as I’ve not been for ages.

Cynic17 · 10/08/2025 22:40

Buying books on Kindle. I don't keep a count, but I'm sure it's easily £50 a month.
But I consider it money well spent for so many hours of enjoyment, plus many are read more than once.

Choclabratwatowner88 · 10/08/2025 22:41

Do kids and DP count 😂😂 they are all very expensive 🙃
