Would you bother going on holiday if your life was like this?

Live abroad, house with small pool, quiet road, able to walk to the beach and countryside. Space to ride bikes, plenty of beach bars, beaches, restaurants nearby. Lots of playgrounds and things to do.
Would you spend money and have the hassle of going somewhere else when kids were small or stay where you were for your two week holiday?

I would still travel the world. Regardless of my lifestyle

itsgettingweird · 07/08/2025 19:05

When I lived abroad with this set up my holidays were trips back to the UK to visit family!

RandomUsernameHere · 07/08/2025 19:06

Definitely, it’s nice to have a change, loads of people have those things where they live and still go on holiday. Also you say they live abroad but it’s not abroad for the people that live there!

Dancingsquirrels · 07/08/2025 19:09

I would, for a change of scenery, to visit family or to stay in a catered hotel

CatherinedeBourgh · 07/08/2025 19:13

We lived in a similar sounding perfect holiday place when the kids were small. We still went on holidays. Skiing (with my mum to babysit when the dc were too small to ski), visiting or travelling with relatives, visiting London for the culture. We didn't go to a self catered rental in a similar place by ourselves, though, that would have felt pointless.

For beach holiday? No.

To see other places and cultures? Absolutely.

This!

Sounds boring! Yes, definitely.

Boring how?

Just to add, travelled lots previously around the world, I’m personally not too bothered about travelling at the moment or dh as we’re too tired 😂
Dd experiences a fantastic life and if asked would like to stay here to play with her friends and swim in the pool and at the beach

Yes I would

We Iove going to different, new places, not even abroad and when our kids were little we used to holiday in UK and go to the caravan parks with entertainment and characters. Used to all go out different places together during the day and to the kiddies entertainment at night.

for us a holiday is more about being in a different area to explore than relaxing/beach and swimming.

G5000 · 07/08/2025 20:41

yes of course, I want to show DC the world.

And also I can't relax and rest at home, always something that needs doing.

RH1234 · 07/08/2025 20:43

If you want a holiday, change of place yes. If you live somewhere the “thrill of it” can wear off a bit

So why are you asking?

I’d want to get away from the endless same old same old chores and cooking and cleaning

mamagogo1 · 07/08/2025 20:49

Personal choice, when mine were small we did all kinds of trips, not a single one to a beach resort so yes I’d still want to go away

iamnotalemon · 07/08/2025 20:53

I live in the Caribbean so my holidays are city breaks rather than other beach holidays. I still like a change of scenery.

Arlanymor · 07/08/2025 18:48

This. I live by the sea, by a lovely long sandy bay. There is no point me going to visit other lovely long sandy bays, unless they are adjacent to places of interest.

Agreed. We live somewhere with lots of access to some great beaches, lots of spaces etc. We do go on holiday, but not in the summer when where we live is lovely. We go in the winter for some warmth, or city breaks or whatever.

Inchworms · 07/08/2025 21:03

I grew up somewhere like this. We went to a different part of the country once a year in summer, more rural, even more ‘nothing’. But we didn’t have money - people who had money sometimes went to other countries. Once I got older absolutely yes, people would go to cities a lot, or other more exotic places.

theres no pressure to do it tho, you dont have to. Good for kids to see how other people live I think but it doesnt have to be every year

HerdMentality · 07/08/2025 21:08

I don’t get the question after your updates. If you’re all happy why do you care what others would do?

Sillysop92 · 07/08/2025 21:11

Yes, a change is as good as a rest!

Same here, I go away in Autumn usually. And then again in February for my birthday.

liveforsummer · 07/08/2025 21:13

I lived like this when dc were small. Our holidays were visiting family/friends in the UK and the odd city break ie Florence/venice

W0tnow · 07/08/2025 21:13

Stay put. It’s not as if you’ll never, ever go on holiday again. City and culture breaks are all well and good, but not with small kids.

grizzlyoldbear · 07/08/2025 21:14

I would stay put personally, and read some good books x

Xmasbaby11 · 07/08/2025 21:15

I’d still want to go on holiday for a change of scene. Depends on so much though - like if you have plenty of time generally to enjoy being at home and if you have enough money to go somewhere you’d like.

TreaclyVoice · 07/08/2025 21:16

Of course I would. I need a holiday from the daily routine and the washing machine.

HikingforScenery · 07/08/2025 21:16

Holidays for me are good for the experience of visiting and écœure in different places and cultures. So yes I’d still travel, maybe somewhere we could drive to, as their children are small.

junebirthdaygirl · 07/08/2025 21:24

We lived by an amazing beach when kids were small. When very young we went to Nice hotels so we had a break from cooking/ cleaning and the kids liked kids clubs. Then we began to explore cities and did some hill walking etc. Also left kids with my parents and did city breaks ourselves. A change is good but your home sounds amazing
