New posters joining us in the genuine spirit of our civil discourse welcome. It would be helpful to read at least some of the Observer items above before posting. There are currently 12 interesting items on The Observer website and linked to above.

To all - Please be extremely cautious when it comes to naming or implicating people and addresses not in the public eye or with no direct connection to the story, and around the understandable health speculations, especially where details are unclear or still emerging. Please do not engage with visitors who seem to have their own agenda and seek to derail. Avoid @'ing and quoting them as - from experience - this will only encourage them back to the threads. We have done amazingly well together for twelve very interesting, very serious and very silly threads so far. I can't be here as much as I'd like so all help with keeping our discussion walking along in our usual reasonable and respectful fashion is very welcome.

Have the sales or thefts of fudge gone up recently?
Will Simon's head ever turn up?
Has the shed of doubt yet burst at the seams?
Will the old charabanc hold up as a tour bus for our hip new band The Drive-By Scolders?
And finally, how much salt can we possibly cram into a giant pinch?

Keep to the path. No saltiness. May the fudge be with you.

Don't forget, the rather garbled account of the court case in TSP isn't miles away from the real-life court case. It turned on the question of whether the collapse of 'Cooper'/'Stan''s company meant SW & TW now owed his creditors money. I doubt it would have been hard to self-select and produce enough evidence to support that.

Whatever evidence they produced would only show that the highly emotional TSP tale of the friend themselves taking them to court, falsely claiming an investment they had made "somehow" made them responsible for all his other business debts, and who only won the case because their killer evidence against him wasn't accepted, was complete hogwash.

It might even be true that Raymoth somehow felt betrayed that his uncle/friend would dare to request his money back because his own business got into trouble, but in the eyes of a lawyer that is absolutely not the same thing.

As I understand it, in early 2013 the Walkers produced a letter from the administrator's of Cooper's company claiming that the loan had come from the company not Cooper. However, Cooper produced bank accounts which showed that the loan was from his personal account and had nothing to do with the business that failed. The Judge accepted this. This loan had been passed on to the creditors. The house was repossessed in the summer. The Walker's never denied that they owed the money.

Unless I’m mistaken, this then proves they at least did some of the walk when they said they did. Or is the Land’s End selfie the only current solid evidence of that?

There is a picture of Sally (unless you believe it's someone dressed up as her 😉) at Hartland point, but she only posted it to her IG in 2017.

Difference Between Theft and Embezzlement

EMBEZZLEMENT:

Relationship -
Involves a trusted role

Nature -
Breach of trust

Setting -
Often workplaces or official roles

Method -
Concealed, long-term deception

THEFT:
Relationship -
No prior trust or access

Nature -
Direct and unauthorized taking

Setting-
Any environment

Method -
May be opportunistic and immediate

Quite creepy when you see it laid out

She states in TSP though that did not owe money.

Or they were at Lands End on the 15th September 2015 because the selfie crops out the upper part of the year so the last digit could be a 3 or a 5…

I also considered this possibility. It's a very annoying crop of the photo (and I assume it's intentionally cropped as opposed to how the photo was framed because TW is only half in it.) You could be right.

AldoGordo · 08/08/2025 16:27

Catwith69lives · 08/08/2025 15:37

I'd say it was 2013. Attached is a crop of a 2015 sign. I could be wrong. What do others think? Although what I would say is that maybe the photo has indeed been deliberately cropped because only part of Moth's face appears. Maybe SW has deliberately cropped the sign to make it look as though it might be 2013!

Edited

Also, why delete it from IG??? Could be onto something.

fruit66 · 08/08/2025 16:28

Choux · 08/08/2025 15:48

The Walkers are probably there in 2013. In your 2015 cropped pic you can see the 5 is almost a complete circle at the bottom and the Walkers photo shows a bigger gap.

unless she knows how to photoshop 🙃

If they went to see Iolande at the Minack that places it firmly in Sept 2013

Why would they be satisfied with the death cert of a man who was clearly not the man they accused of conning them out of their money and taking them to court?
If they did not even ask to see court documents to compare names, she could have just shown them the death cert of any random dude and they would have accepted that at face value, which does not sound like any lawyer I have ever met.

Their initial worry must have been that the man Raymoth had the financial dispute with that ended up in court could sue them for libel if SW had misrepresented the case.

And the only answer that SW could provide is that she did indeed misrepresent the facts but so severely that there is not even a Cooper that could come forward and claim to be libeled, because the whole court case was completely different than in the book.

Therefore they must have known she lied and published regardless.

They aren't trying to catch out the author though. They are trying to prevent any potential legal recourse for identiying someone and harming reputuation. As long as she could demonstrate Cooper was the half-uncle, say by showing evidence that he gave the loan, then they wouldn't necessarily look further had she also shown he was deceased. The disclaimer might then have been enough for them to trust RW and no need to go beyond who gave the loan. Maybe you are right, but I'm saying there are other angles preventing that certainty.

A lot of the original cast members are on FB. A journalist should be able to contact them and verify if the events described in TSP took place or not. The pub where they (the cast) could have been staying (The Cable Station Inn) closed in 2021.

And what do you think that says about PHR's knowledge and responsibility?

I've been pottering through Apple Cider Vinegar on Netflix - which is very well made and fascinating in its own right - and the behavioural parallels are striking. Thank you to the pps who recommended on a earlier thread. I echo them, it's an illuminating companion study of potentially similar psychological profiles.

Think that was me 😊I was reminded of SW so much. There's also a follow-on documentary about Belle Gibson on Netflix - I can't recall what it's called but easy enough to find. One of BG's ex-friends says of her: 'She didn't have friends, she had hosts' ...

DRIVE-BY SCOLDING ALERT ⚠️

Afternoon all. I share the concerns of some pps and PMs that a very small number of recent posts have strayed a little far from the path of the central characters. As I say in the OP, it isn't in the spirit of the threads. General discussion is fine but implicating, real names, addresses, or links to those, is being a bit too salty.

I reckon its 2015! I've unearthed a photo of the sign on 9 Oct 2013 which shows that some of the paint has peeled off the signpost showing exposed wood. The sign with Raymoth doesn't have peeling paint!

The 2013 info on Camdram says the performance started at 20:00 and the opening night was Monday 16th Sept
Google says the play generally lasts for 2h 50min. TSP says two actors come off stage and invite Raymoth as they are leaving and have to rush to get last orders (which would be at 11pm on a weekday). Is it plausible the actors would rush off stage in costume, invite two strangers, know about a remote campsite and have room in their van despite the large cast, and still get to the pub on time?

We know Raymoth did stay at this campsite at least because if memory serves me it was the "space theft " one. But whether it was on this date I don't know.

The Cable Station Inn regularly hosted cast members from the Minack so it is plausible. SW would have to have done some serious detective work to make the incident plausible. Either the cast members did have access to a van to ferry them to the Cable Station Inn or they didn't.

Apparently the Army closing path is incredibly unlikely re: other implausible lifts. Do we know more about that from local correspondents?

Believe me, I don't want to say this but there is a peeling bit in the same spot, from what I can see. Doesn't rule out 2015 as I doubt the sign gets touched up often. But I don't think it's conclusive.

I remember seeing a comment on Reddit from a former squaddie who said that the incident at Braunton Sands was completely implausible.
