Clueless on London, need help on safer areas to stay

Not been to London for yrs. Kids were little then so we were out in the day but not so much at night.

I've booked tickets for an event at the O2 Kentish Town later this month. An artist that DD1 loves. It's likely to finish 2230-23:00 I guess.

Due to family unit (myself & 2 teenage daughters) we need a family room, Travlodge seems better priced than Prem inn so I'm focusing on them.

Can anyone recommend an area / hotel location? It needs ideally to be one train ride without a long walk either side unless the area is likely to be busy & safe as I'm nervous being on trains / tubes & walking around London later at night as a female with 2 female teens.

Event is mid week if it affects anything.

Thank you so much.

Another vote for Kings X.

Granary Sq and all around Coal Drop Yard is lovely. Good shops, restaurants and people watching. Easy peasy to get the bus or tube into Soho, Fitzrovia, Bloomsbury (all pretty areas….well, Soho ain’t pretty but she fun!), Oxford St and Covent Garden.

Also really straightforward for your event venue and the royal palaces / parks too if they wet your whistle.

We stayed at the premier inn Archway for a gig there.
Just a few stops from 02 Kentish town.

It's a good one, right at the bottom of Highgate.
2 mins from tube.
Lots of buses.
Nice area.

Oops see that Archway has already been recommended.
Definitely there for me.

Archway is fine. Just a bit scruffy. It’s convenient enough. It’s almost residential in parts and near the Whittington hospital.

I would still choose Euston though if possible.

If you do ever need a coffee break near Euston, my ‘secret’ recommendation is the Wellcome museum opposite. Nice little modern museum with medical artefacts, but also a great cafe away from the crowds. So much nicer than the busy Pret etc near the station.

I think London is very safe. It don't think it matters where you stay really. I think the most important thing is to put your phones away, take headphones out and be present.

Thanks for info & reassurance. I'll price up Camden.

Coming from NW so will arr to Euston by train.

Budget... as reasonable as possible. Event tix, cost of train (nrly £200 for 3 of us), plus hotel, its eye-watering what it costs to go to a gig in London for us. £500-600 easily for a couple of nights. So hoping to get the hotel for 250 or under for 2 nights which is limiting somewhat.

Have looked at Tower Bridge / Elephant & Castle TL, they're both off the northern line with a 10 min ish walk from tube, are they worth shortlisting?

Edited

I wouldn’t. The Elephant and Castle TL is right over the rail line and the entire hotel shakes! The entrance is down an alley way too so you’d hate it if you’re nervous.

It would make zero sense to stay in Waterloo or E and C. You would gain little. Esp in E and C.

What's Waterloo like, the walk from the stn looks about 10 mins

10 minutes' walk from Waterloo could well be Elephant and Castle! (Which incidentally is on the Northern line.)

Mummysusername · 10/08/2025 11:28

If you are staying at a travel lodge. Make sure that you check in early and no y wait until after the gig as they as regularly over book rooms and it’s then first come first served. They might then put you up in another somewhere else in London

Kings X or Euston would be your best bet as you can dump bags after arriving, do tourist things for the day and also close to getting back from the gig and also on your final day. Don't force yourself to take cases on northern line down to Waterloo or E&C. Archway would be fine, as would the Belsize Park/Hampstead one (get a bus from the O2 rather than swapping about with tube branches). Camden would be another decent option if it's cheaper than Euston/KX.
