Clueless on London, need help on safer areas to stay

Not been to London for yrs. Kids were little then so we were out in the day but not so much at night.

I've booked tickets for an event at the O2 Kentish Town later this month. An artist that DD1 loves. It's likely to finish 2230-23:00 I guess.

Due to family unit (myself & 2 teenage daughters) we need a family room, Travlodge seems better priced than Prem inn so I'm focusing on them.

Can anyone recommend an area / hotel location? It needs ideally to be one train ride without a long walk either side unless the area is likely to be busy & safe as I'm nervous being on trains / tubes & walking around London later at night as a female with 2 female teens.

Event is mid week if it affects anything.

Thank you so much.

Tower Bridge and E&C don't really make sense to me if you're coming into Euston and you're going to Kentish Town. Much better staying either close to Euston (overpriced and generally close to major roads so wouldn't be my preference) or somewhere around Kentish Town, Camden, Gospel Oak, Hampstead etc.

If you book a Travel lodge make sure you check-in in the afternoon rather than waiting until after the gig. They sometimes over book and ive known a couple of people arrive after events and there is no room available for them.

Enjoy your trip.

I live near elephant, it’s fine at night as busy interchange. Just don’t wander about with your phone out (this applies anywhere in London, or probably anywhere busy full stop). However I’d look nearer the venue to save time on the tube - Kentish Town, Camden or maybe a bit further in like angel or around kings x which is far nicer these days than it used to be due to the new development

user1471538283 · 05/08/2025 14:29

I think Camden is your best bet. It's not too far from Kentish Town and it will be busy and easy to get to by tube or by Uber.

There will be plenty of people leaving the venue as well.

Or kings cross. Again quite easy to get to, busy and it's got a really good Premier Inn hub and lots of nice places.

SisterMidnight77 · 05/08/2025 15:23

You’re worrying far too much. You said no premier inn but the Hampstead one is nearby and is fine. It’s a bit cheaper too since it doesn’t have air con.

There is a boat Hotel next to the cable car which goes to 02
Can also access the metro easily
Tesco next to the boat too

The OP mentioned The O2 KENTISH TOWN! Which is miles away from North Greenwich

Bruisername · 05/08/2025 15:26

There’s also a premier inn right next to archway station which is 2 stops north of Kentish Town or a short bus ride

VegQueen · 05/08/2025 15:27

There’s a premier inn at Archway, right next to the tube. It’s 2 stops on tube from Kentish Town or a short bus and it is a safe area.

Great minds lol

Comefromaway · 05/08/2025 15:28

There is a Premier Inn at Archway which is just up from Kentish Town on the Northern Line.

What's Waterloo like, the walk from the stn looks about 10 mins

Madness to arrive at Euston for an evening in north London and stay near Waterloo. Stay in north London!

County Hall Premier Inn is our favourite hotel. 5 mins walk from Waterloo and feels really safe.

MinPinSins · 05/08/2025 15:39

If you head north on there northern line, you could say at the Finchley Travelodge, super close to Finchley Central station. A suburban area, which sounds like the kind of things you're looking for

TheMeatyDrop · 05/08/2025 15:42

This is brilliant. I'm out at the mo but planning to sit down later tonight with pen & paper to note all these suggestions for investigation!
It's a bit daunting when you're a london novice without pointers, so from me & my DDs ... THANK YOU 😊

I keep seeing that one reccomended but whenever I look it's really expensive.

Swiftie1878 · 05/08/2025 15:46

Enjoy the gig! Is it Alessi Rose? We’re seeing her in Liverpool! xx

Camdenish · 05/08/2025 16:19

I second any of the Premier in type places in Euston/Kings x/st Pancras. Or there is one at Camden. Get the Northern line to KX st pan or walk to Camden.

It’s August and in NW5 everyone’s gone back to France or is in someone else’s second home in Cornwall. It’s v quiet. No problems being loan females.

thesugarbumfairy · 05/08/2025 16:24

I don't know how old the girls are, but try premier inn london archway. you can get a family room (at least one of girls has to be 15 or under - but no-one checks) and will probably have to share a bed - or you will have to share with one of them. This is fine. I share at premier inns with my 15 year old son and the beds are so big we aren't touching. If its the gig on the 26th its £135 a night. Its also close enough to get a cheap uber there and back. Plus if kids get a free breakfast with an adult breakfast.

I went to Camden recently with the 15 year old to a gig at the Electric Ballroom. (which is further into Camden - the O2 is Chalk farm) and we walked back to our hotel (the Enterprise - but it doesn't do triples) and it felt perfectly safe later at night.

Thisseatisnotavailable · 05/08/2025 16:30

Great Portland St / Fitzrovia area. It's an easy bus ride to Kentish Town.

lanadelgrey · 05/08/2025 16:32

All the premier Inns/travelodges near Euston, British Library, King’s Cross are good and extremely well connected for travel. You can get a bus if you fancy it to Kentish Town, which goes through Camden for free sightseeing. Area round King’s Cross/coaldrops yard is fun and you can eat cheaply as well as v expensively.
Back of Euston is still a bit grimy. Archway is dullsville

AntFarmer · 05/08/2025 16:42

We always stay at Bank Premier Inn which is near northern line. Always seems cheaper than lots of other PIs and is fine. Easy to walk to places to St Paul's, Tate Modern etc. and area seems safe to walk about. Not sure how long on tube to there from kentish town but it's on same line.

Mulledjuice · 05/08/2025 16:45

BeaTwix · 05/08/2025 13:41

If it’s cheaper the E&C Travelodge will be fine. It’s right next to Mercato Metropolitan which is a big bustling street food court place and Southwark playhouse.

I often walk home from there late on my own and it’s fine. I’d probably prefer it to kings X. But that might be case of familiar feeling safer!

Elephant has good public transport - if you want to go into Oxford Street it’s really easy. And not too far from Borough/ Bankside etc.

The Waterloo one is also fine (friend stays there for work a lot). As would be the Southwark one (Union Street). Latter isn’t that good for northern line though.

Edited

All this - they're big open wide main roads, well-lit.

LaundrySpin · 05/08/2025 16:47

Can you afford Kings Cross or Euston? There would be very convenient for Kentish Town.

Ddakji · 05/08/2025 16:49

I would stay as close as possible to the venue. I’ve travelled south from a couple of stadium concerts in north London this year and it’s taken ages just to get on a train.
