I booked online with Ryan Ait last week, a flight that should have cost £530.00, I got for 210.00

thelma2008 · 29/05/2008 12:21

We had a similar experience with ryan air last year, we were travelling to Ireland for a funeral, we had a problem after parking in the long stay car park as the bus that was going to take us to the terminal broke down. When we did arrive at the check in desk we were told check in had just closed, check in was due to close at 9am, my watch said 8.59am, but their clock said 9.01am. We didn't have any luggage but they would not let us check in. It was frustrating but not really ryan air's fault, we had to pay the ammendment fee of £50 each and get a coach from luton to stansted, but we were late (by their clock) and should have left home earlier in case of problems.

theBOD · 29/05/2008 13:25

"I have no problem with the way they run as it's the only way i can get to see family a few times a year, but it's not the cheap option it used to be "

see that's the thing i think the extra charges for baggage/ checking in at the airport are great because it is passing on the cost of the services to the people who use them so it gives the passenger the option to save more if they want and encourages others to travel light/book in online thus reducing the costs.
for this reason i always check in on-line and when going anywhere for a few days just bring carry on luggage (as i'm a poor student i have no cash).
and when i'm going to our place in spain i just leave a load of clothes over there to save more money.

melpomene · 29/05/2008 18:03

Rules are rules and they're not obliged to bend them for latecomers.

What I did object to was when Ryanair charged us £32 for the privilege of priority boarding (telling us we would be 'first on the plane'), and then all that happened was that we were allowed onto the transit bus first. All the other passengers then piled onto the same transit bus and because the dds were toddlers we ended up being amongst the last people onto the plane.

findtheriver · 29/05/2008 18:26

Yeah, you do that only once before you realise it's a bloody great rip off!

porcamiseria · 09/04/2010 11:47

just have to get this back to life

I dont CARE that they are "cheap" honestly would rather pay £50 more and not be treated like a cunt

Today tired to book, wasted an hour of my life and their credit card system not working (my bank confirmed this). tried to call and book, got told it would be more expensive

Now flying with Easyjet, they have lost £300 the fucking bastards

and you cant even complain to them!!!! unless you want to pay 10p a minute

I think Michael O Leary has a tatto saying "the customer is a cunt" on his arm

sorry, language, am, ANNOYED

upahill · 09/04/2010 11:57

I've had no problems with either Ryan-Air or Easy Jet. You know from the outset what you are getting and why it is so cheap.

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/04/2010 12:00

OP - your DH was late. Tough. There have to be rules in place. Very annoying if it is you which is late, however that's life.

I really like Ryanair and Easyjet. Never had a problem on them. Don't know people get so aerated about it.

mayorquimby · 09/04/2010 12:07

YABU he should have been on time. His fault completely, if he'd turned up on time there would not have been a problem.

WhoIsAsking · 09/04/2010 12:11

OP - sorry, but your DH was late. If it had been a bus he'd been late for it would have been trundling down the road.

BUT on the subject of RyanAir? They are awful. I have been told by someone high up (haha) in aviation safety to never ever book a flight with them. Make of that what you will.

haha

stanausauruswrecks · 09/04/2010 12:14

I fly at least three times a year to Belfast with ryanair with DS and DD in tow and never had a problem. I find them no more expensive than BMIBaby, and their flights, IME are a lot more reliable- always seems to be some sort of delay with BMI whereas Rayanair always take off on time, and have even known them to leave early if everyone on board!

mayorquimby · 09/04/2010 12:14

Sorry but WTF are those people on that site doing flying with ryanair at all? If you don't fly with them you have no reason to hate them as they don't affect you. If you do hate them and continue to hate them and whine about them then your a fucking moron.

mayorquimby · 09/04/2010 12:15

*you're

mayorquimby · 09/04/2010 12:15

*hate them and coninute to FLY with them ...

(sorry heads all over the place today.)

WhoIsAsking · 09/04/2010 12:21

People like to complain MQ

chipmonkey · 09/04/2010 12:33

LOL at TheBod being a "poor student" with a place in Spain!

Sorry, OP but there does have to be a cut-off point. We try to get there 2 hours before take off , just to allow for delays.

I hate flying with them but sometimes there's no choice for us. Aer Lingus don't fly to half as many airports.

mayorquimby · 09/04/2010 12:35

That's it isn't it. Nearly every complaint I hear about RyanAir are normally from people who say "I'd never fly with them." in which case why fucking comlain? I'm not mad on corn flakes, so I just don't eat them. I don't not eat them and continue to complain about them. Or eat them every time I want cereal and then moan about them.
or it's people who have been in breach of some agreed term (normally baggage) who then want to complain about them despite the fact that they're the ones in the wrong.
Or a lot of the time it's people complaining that they're basically not a 1950s version of BA or Ethiad. FFS you know what you're getting when you get your ticket. You don't complain complain that your McDonalds isn't Michelin standard, if you want Michelin standard you pay Michelin prices.

glastocat · 09/04/2010 12:37

I've used them loads of times with nary a problem, and as someone above pointed out Ryanair meant a hell of a lot of people got to see their folks back home a lot more often due to Michael O'Leary. I remember booking a flight from London to Ireland at Xmas in the early nineties and it cost me £150! So Ryanair we're a god-send. They did leave my buggy on the tarmac of Heathrow once, but they delivered it to my mum's house in a taxi the next day, so that wasn't too bad. The add-ons are annoying, but they are still a lot cheaper than Cunni (Aer) Lingus, who I have never forgiven for charging me €1650 for four flights from Cork to Paris three years ago. Now that's robbery.

glastocat · 09/04/2010 12:39

were a godsend.

Oh, and you husand was late, so its tough titty.

runnybottom · 09/04/2010 12:40

How is it Ryanairs fault if you miss your flight because you are late? I don't get what you are moaning about.

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/04/2010 12:41

WHI - I work in the aerospace industry and a load of people I work with think Ryanair is a bit pants, as they use trainee pilots to fly their planes (and these pilots pay Ryanair for the privilege, which subsidises all the 1p flights). I don;t care less, their safety record is good and the trainee pilots are supervised.

It is probably why Ryanair flight landings are a bit hardm though.

suiledonne · 09/04/2010 12:48

The first time we flew with Ryanair we were delayed 6 hours in Beauvais outside Paris.

Did we rant on the day? You bet we did.

Did we boycott Ryanair and never fly with them again? No way. We have gone on to fly with them about a dozen more times and have never had another problem.

Due to the prohibitive cost of flying from Ireland before Ryanair I didn't have a whole lot of flying experience to compare it to.

Because of Ryanair we have some amazing trips to Rome, Barcelona, Paris and other places which mean more to me than that 6 hours I wasted in Beauvais.

gingernutlover · 09/04/2010 12:51

YANBU

your husband arrived 5 minutes after check in had closed

check in is open for 2 hours before closing yes? So he really was cutting it fine and it didnt work out - not ryan air's fault

porcamiseria · 09/04/2010 12:53

my issue is that they dont treat their customers with respect, they really do think they are cxxts, examples being

make it nearly impossible to deal with complaints
after the 9 August liquid bomb scare (when noone could even bring water onboard) they only had 30 bottles of mineral water
if their online system is bust, tough shit, you cant book

anyway, whatever! they have lost £300 as am now flying with easyjet instead

LetThereBeRock · 09/04/2010 12:55

Why not start a new thread about Ryanair rather than bumping an almost two year old thread?
It's confusing when people think that the post is current and the OP is still wondering if they ABU or ANBU.
