Would wear a skirt with these scratches?

CVVFan · 04/08/2025 17:06

I fell into a blackberry bush (don’t ask!) and ended up with these horrible scratches.

would you wear a midi skirt to a semi casual company event?

I’ve never met my colleagues IRL so I want to make the best impression

AIBu U to think they look too bad for a skirt

It's not that they look bad, but that you will be sick of being asked about them.

Maddy70 · 04/08/2025 17:12

I probably would wear a skirt trust me noone is looking at your legs. And if they doame a comment just said I scratched myself gardening

Wolfpa · 04/08/2025 17:13

It’s a talking point

GettingFestiveNow · 04/08/2025 17:16

For a social event or general life I would, but for a works thing I think I'd wear trousers. I wouldn't want to explain to a load of work people that I'd fallen into a bush, but neither would I want them guessing how it had happened and maybe dreaming up something worse.

That’s kind of my worry, that they’ll think it was something much worse

If you 'want to make the best impression' then resoundingly No, cover them up.

There is no shame in sustaining scratches from a blackberry bush, but they are incompatible with exposure at a work do where you want to be thought well of.

There will be at least one person present who will never be able to see you again without recalling your scratched legs.

I agree with this. I wouldn't give it a second thought if I was one of your colleagues.

DinoLil · 04/08/2025 17:42

No one will look at your legs. If they do, you see them looking but they don't say anything, just bring it up and say something like yeah, ferret wrestling is one of my hobbies.

Definitely be an ice breaker!

Tagyoureit · 04/08/2025 17:50

Wear trousers

Menopants · 04/08/2025 17:53

put makeup on to disguise

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 04/08/2025 17:55

Im constantly covered in superficial wounds, scratches, bruises. I wear a dress most days.m, including to work. So I would.

Berlinlover · 04/08/2025 17:58

I would cover them up because everyone will just be distracted by the scratches and be imagining all sorts of scenarios of how you got them.

BuddhaAtSea · 04/08/2025 17:59

Long skirt or trousers. It’s the first time you meet them, the talking point should be how amazing you are, not that you fell into a bush.
I’ve worked with the same team for about 20 years, I wouldn’t care if they saw my scratches (don’t think I would even register), but were all really close.
Show your best light would be my vote.

Same. It’s only on here I’ve heard of not wearing things because of scratches, bruises etc.

chattyness · 04/08/2025 18:08

I know it's warm atm, but I would wear opaque tights to cover them up so I could wear a skirt or wear a long skirt or trousers, because I don't like anything to draw attention to me.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/08/2025 18:14

Ow ow ow!
I think it’d depend what my non RL interactions with the colleagues were like. Are zoom meetings etc all strictly business?

my DH thinks I shouldn’t wear a skirt either!

Definitely cover them up for a work event. They look like SH injuries and you could be judged as being mentally unstable which could affect your career.

Keroppi · 04/08/2025 20:43

Nude tights? I'd probably wear trousers or tights to cover them up as I'd be feeling paranoid of people looking or imagining how I got them! I know people don't care though. But still!

Vivienne1000 · 04/08/2025 20:56

Wear wide leg trousers with a gorgeous top. No one will be any the wiser.

No they don't, they are too erratic. They look like scratches.

OP, I would go with the gardening excuse rather than telling people you fell in a bush but I honestly wouldn't worry too much.

Well I’ve seen some SH injuries that look like that

I cannot believe there isn't a Mummy pig reference on this thread

Jamesblonde2 · 05/08/2025 18:05

Cover up.
