Climbing Frame and Privacy

HappyKite2067 · 03/08/2025 10:16

We don’t want to be ‘those neighbours’ but our neighbours have put a climbing frame for their children right next to our fence. We now constantly have little faces popping up over our (2m) fence and looking straight onto our patio area and into our kitchen.

Their garden is probably 4m x 6m at a push, so I think anywhere in the garden would probably intrude.

We really want children to make use of a garden, we don’t mind noise (and they are noisy!) and we don’t even mind the occasional ball being kicked over- but this is our privacy now.

Anyone been in this position before? I imagine they are unlikely to take down.

won't it be time consuming to train the hornets to stick to that side of the fence and not cross over though?

Bees 🐝 apparently make better pets

Someone on here said that having the hive opening facing a fence means that the worker bees form a flight path which goes straight up to the top of the fence before they fly off to find flowers 🌻and they come back along the same flight path.

Plus the OP has someone to talk to and nice honey

Bamboo, but it might cut out your light as well. A friend did everything possible in a similar situation, settled on bamboo and wished she had done it earlier as it looked gorgeous and definitely stopped the nosy kids next door. It can take over though so choose your species carefully.

Respectfully, I have to disagree from personal experience of dealing with bamboo that was “contained”

Someone did not do their research if you're having issues with bamboo, its over 30 years planted in my fathers garden, it grew to the expected and desired circumference, is extremely tall but has not spread beyond that at all. Its a lovely striking plant which adds height and sound to the garden.

This sounds promising- and I’m guessing it might add value if we come to sell!

Don't plant bamboo in the ground. Keep it in large pots or planters!

Bit of trellis and some nice climbing plants

Nrtft but get privacy glass or whatever it is on the windows if you can afford it. Works for someone I know who lives on a main road.
