I think I am going to explode, every 2nd day the garage at the bottom of my road has gone up 2p a litre. Its bloody profiteering. I need the car to get dd to nursery, shops ect as out in the boondocs!!!
How much longer can this go on. In the usa they were all up in arms coz it was $4 a GALLON or something ridiculous like that. Wouldnt mind so much if the goverment really insisit we use buses, train, hot air balloon!! watever that the bloody bus would be more that 1 an hour and not cost £3.80 for a 20 min journey each way AAAAHHHHHHH

ours is now £60 per week,

and that is literally school and dancing runs!!!!

wonderstuff · 28/05/2008 16:30

gem both are profiteering, per litre of fuel 20p goes to the garage, 20p to oil company, rest to govt! That what they said on the news a few weeks back. Govt won't concentrate on buses because they know a) we're all car obcessed and b) It will take years to sort out the mess made when it all got privatised and they won't be in power for much longer

Our school is 3 miles away and thankfully, the council lays on transport for it.

It is up a very steep road that is now made all the more dangerous because it's being opened up to 40 logging lorries a day.

Many of DD1's caregivers come out to the house, but she does need to go into town for nursery at present and for SALT and OT.

Minkus · 28/05/2008 16:59

DS is only 3.5 so not school age yet- but nearest one is easily within walking distance (only half a mile away but about 20 mins walk because of big hill and traffic lights). Trouble is that if I want to get him to school and me to work on time (work an hours drive away in the other direction to school, we're in a small market town and taking bus to work would take about two hours as no direct route) I really can't afford the time to walk him to school and then back again! Sounds silly but is a real consideration for our family.

mummylin2495 · 28/05/2008 17:02

psycho can you put letter of scool your oldest dd goes to ,i only ask because my gd is nearly same age and she has a friend called megan !!!

jojosmaman · 28/05/2008 17:05

I am livid along side you!! It pisses me right off when we are paying these ridiculous taxes on fuel all to raise revenue for necessities like the Olympics/ Millenium Domes/ The Gherkin/ MP's second homes in the city/ wars.

And I heard today that older cars (and by that I mean ones just 4 years old) are going to be taxed higher on road tax (one style, a galaxy I think will be increased by over 200%!!) in a bid to help the environment by encouraging people not to drive more polluting cars. FFS, tax those that can't afford to get a new car every year Brown, that's clever!! By doing this he will literally alienate all the middle class mondeo driving voters in one swoop!

This will be the death of Browns Prime Ministerial career, I can see a "standing down on grounds of ill health" looming for him.

Fair enough, we all need to do our bit for the environment but if we could, we would! My brother is a Joiner and needs his van for work but it is crippling him paying £1.29 a gallon for diesel as well as struggling to find work in a building environment where house builders have stopped building!!

wonderstuff · 28/05/2008 17:06

Minkus couldnt a neighbour with sim age child be called upon? When I was at primary i used to accompany a neighbours yonger child. Just seems a shame, not just from cost/environment pov but also think kids benefit a lot from the exercise

2shoes · 28/05/2008 17:13

riven sorry don't get that. if all the apointmenst come to me. say for annual revoew. then they would be driving not me. what would that save.
tbh I like to go into dd's school. I don't have the day to day contact that most parents have. so is my chance to be a known face and to meet people.
her school don't do phisio at home it is done in school.
