Feeling upset DH didn’t back me up over stranger comment

LaurandEm · 30/07/2025 22:11

We’re on holiday at the moment. I was with one of my DC walking back from the sea earlier and playfully tapped them on the back with the palm of my hand.

A man who was sat nearby saw and said ‘you can do that to me if you like’ - I walked past without comment.

Once I got back to DH and other DC I told him the comment I received and he shrugged his shoulders and said he didn’t see the issue.

Am I overreacting or would most men be a bit annoyed if a stranger commented in front of their DC that he’d like to spank their wife?!

OP posts:

'Agree. Say something yourself. Tbh my DH would probably be delighted as he thinks I'm hot and so thinks others think I'm hot too. He'd think it was a compliment'

Have you actually had your brain removed, love?

steff13 · 30/07/2025 23:14

Sorry did you tap your kid on the back or on the butt?

Are you the same person who shouted willy willy willy at a builder?

Ehh??
what's that all about ?? X

brunettemic · 30/07/2025 23:15

So DH didn’t march down, slap the chap across the face with a glove and demand pistols at dawn to avenge the besmirching of his poor damsel?

LTB.

I too would like more information on this.

IzzyHandsIsMySpiritAnimal · 30/07/2025 23:20

I'm confused.

OP taps her child on the back with her palm (a gentle pat)
Stranger says "you can do that to me"

This has somehow been interpreted as the stranger wanting to spank OP.

If OP had smacked her child on the backside (which is not what the post says) then I can see why it would be offensive, and I'd have expected OP (and her husband if in earshot) to have said something.

Men need to keep their pathetic mouths shut. I don't know why your husband didn't see an issue.

I'm sorry your post brought out the thickos and the little handmaidens. YANBU.

What did you get from the OPs post though? She tapped her son on the back, the man said something like “you can do that to me”, the OP interpreted that as the man wanting to spank her?

Spank her where? On her back?

Velmy · 30/07/2025 23:25

It's a daft/nothing comment that requires a daft/nothing response.

There's a close to 100% chance that your DH can't fight, so all that him saying anything/confronting the person is going to do is run the risk of him getting himself into more trouble than he can deal with.

You'd have been better off saying something yourself, but clearly you didn't have the bottle.

If you're that fragile that you can't brush off something so pathetic without your DH jumping out of the woodwork to make sure your cotton wool hasn't come lose, you should probably avoid leaving the house 🤷🏻‍♂️

Reliablesource · 30/07/2025 23:26

You tapped your son on the back with your palm? Absolutely no spanking or anything dodgy involved? And yet this stranger said that?! Hmmmm. Didn’t happen. Put the sherry down, love.

I fear the Manchester Airport thumper of police and headbutter of fellow passengers has given some people an unrealistic expectation of what men should do to defend their women's honour ...

Why would it be? They have completely different usernames and the scenarios are completely different

VaseofViolets · 31/07/2025 09:21

This is a non-issue. Forget it, move on, be happy.

Also, today is the 14th anniversary of that thread.

CopperWhite · 31/07/2025 09:22

You’re fine, it’s not a big deal. Why do you want it to be a drama?

UsingAMansNameInAWomensWorld · 31/07/2025 09:31

I'm assuming you missed "side" out for a start because playfully tapping your son's back wouldn't make the man's comment make sense

And he didn't want to spank YOU. He said you could spank HIM

"What for being a cheeky sod who can't keep his inappropriate comments to himself?"

Seriously, your husband shrugged it off. Like you should. He wasn't going to go and confront this man and it's a bit pathetic of you to think you need him to.

And that doesn't make us "handmaidens". Fucks sake I hate how MNers use that to insult other women who don't "conform" to their ideals of what women should be

I agree, men do need to keep their gobs shut but I also don't think that women are so weak and pathetic that they need men to defend them.
My DH would have rolled his eyes (at the man not me) and then it would never have been mentioned again. However, I probably wouldn't even have told him about it as it was such a non event and if it had upset me I would have dealt with it there and then rather than complain to my H
