A woman on the bus dropped her ticket purposely on the floor of the bus. Totally first world problems of mine, I know, but it irked me. If the bus wasn't so busy, I would've asked her if she drops litter on the floor at home and asked if she realises someone has to clean her rubbish up. It probably wouldn't have registered with her though. Other things is people pushing each other to get on the bus, even ensuring they got on before an old lady.

Another much more serious thing is war. The absolute desperation that war causes. My goodness. People killing each other. When does it end?

@Absentmindedsmileim sorry. Reading my replies back I’m being flippant when you’re clearly not feeling good. So I am sorry for that, and genuinely hope you can find some joy in something soon. The world can be shite sometimes, I agree but there’s def good there

Thames Water deciding to double my monthly direct debit based on their “estimate”. And no we can’t lower the direct debit amount ourselves. I live in a tiny flat with no garden, I pay more than my friends down the road in big houses with gardens and more people living in those houses. We have a water meter, they don’t. Go figure.

Ah that’s nice thank you 😁

I’m being flippant and grumpy too, on purpose. I mean don’t get me wrong, I do think all those things though. And loads more.

Anyway @whatcanthematterbe81 yes there’s good there / here for sure. Loads of good. I think we are good @whatcanthematterbe81 ! 🙃😻

Drove down a country lane today and just loads of fly tipping everywhere. In fact rubbish everywhere along the sides of roads.

This whole thread makes me despair tbh.
Dog poo, bins ... and now sunbeds.
I think maybe ppl should look up 'despair' ... in a dictionary.

Absentmindedsmile · 29/07/2025 19:37

People listening to their iPad or iPhone or laptop out loud. As if everyone else on the train / plain wants to hear their shit music.

Today specifically, as opposed to ‘today’ as a section of time in history, actually nothing has pissed me off. In fact it’s been a good day with bits of good news. I’ve just noticed that the recycling even got collected which has been a rarity of late.

Smelly people. Met lots of them in and around my local Aldi today. And before someone jumps down my throat about how it could be medical....not for all of the smelly fuckers it isn't. Just have a fucking wash with some soap and finish with deodorant. 🤢🤢🤢🤢

Cheap in Aldi too. You could buy some and spray it as they walk past

The kids I encountered on my way home when I got back to my village that were cycling up the 40 then 30 road, weaving across the road, stopping in the middle of both carriageways and giving drivers the finger and laughing, basically deliberately holding all the traffic up and delighting in it, one of them shouting and laughing that they might cause someone to rear end someone else. No helmets either.
I mean I'm all for kids being outside, and kids don't always do things safely an but that was totally deliberate.
Last seen stopping the bus pulling into the bus stop and cycling round it so people had to make a dash for it, shouting abuse and generally being little shits.
Police showed up after a while but of course they'd scarpered.

My 5 year old saying excuse me to get past people just congregating around a shop. No acknowledgment at all.

He was polite… I was very tempted to not be polite.

Some of us have put down depressing things, others are more light hearted issues. I don't think there's right or wrong..maybe the more serious stuff goes without saying in some minds 🤔

OpenThatWindow · 29/07/2025 19:57

Some localish neighbours asked me for a favour which I can't, unfortunately, do.

They were shitty with me earlier because I said had to say no.

I can't imagine living on this planet feeling so entitled to putting badly on other people's lives.

Having manners instilled at a young age is a nice attribute to have.
Well done that young lad.

@ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews thank you

He can be very polite… in public 😅

It makes people despair because it grinds you down, you can't enjoy where you live, your child ends up with dog shit on them because of selfish people. Not to mention the impact on wildlife. And it speaks to the selfishness of others. Yes there are bigger things going on in the world but all behaviour starts somewhere and being ignorant of others is probably up there with why shit things happen in the world.

I was at the park with my 6 year old DD and there are some fair ground rides there at the moment.
DD was queuing up and she was at the front. The ride finished and she was excited to get on it at the front. Anyway, the kids getting off just decided to get off and push past her to go back on it again. Their mums were doing absolutely nothing about it. So I told the man running the ride that those kids have just had their turn and other people want to get on, and he made them get off.

The kids must have only been about 5 but they pissed me off and so did their mums. And the operator for not enforcing taking turns until he was told to.

I never despair of people or situations. Despair = Giving up, in my mind. And I will not give up. What is currently happening in Gaza drives me to the edge of despair, but I still won't give up on the essential goodness of most people.

Naive? Possibly. But at 74 I still think people in general have the ability to see what's right and what's wrong. Social forces may point them in the wrong (as I see it) direction. But I still believe most people can be good and kind.

Influencers eating with their mouth open and not using cutlery properly telling us how great the food is because they got it for free.
Entitled customers wanting a sandwich from the deli I work in for free because it’s for a child, and they have shopped their for years, and they know Linda who worked there years ago!

RoadAtlas · 29/07/2025 22:05

"South Yorkshire Police" and "throwing about Jimmy Savile's name to score political points" just about sums it up for me today. I just can't envision how we get out of the pit our society has fallen into.
