What has made you despair of people today?

A woman on the bus dropped her ticket purposely on the floor of the bus. Totally first world problems of mine, I know, but it irked me. If the bus wasn't so busy, I would've asked her if she drops litter on the floor at home and asked if she realises someone has to clean her rubbish up. It probably wouldn't have registered with her though. Other things is people pushing each other to get on the bus, even ensuring they got on before an old lady.

Another much more serious thing is war. The absolute desperation that war causes. My goodness. People killing each other. When does it end?

The current news about South Yorkshire Police.

Totally this :(

springbabydays · 29/07/2025 18:09

Speeding on a campsite.

Nannyfannybanny · 29/07/2025 18:11

We had to go a couple of miles in the car,to collect compost, then took the dogs to a nice park,it was the standard of driving! People in incorrect lanes, no indication, tailgating. DH from Sarf London said some very rude words!

BrokeTheToddlersHeart · 29/07/2025 18:13

I am peopled out at the moment if absolutely just love to sit in a dark room.

EmeraldRoulette · 29/07/2025 18:13

IRL, someone refusing to do their job for no reason at all that I can see. And trying to tell me how to do my job when he's the subcontractor and I'm in charge of the project. Tomorrow I will look at replacing him. It's unfortunate because I'm with him on another project, but I suspect that will fall to bits as well, largely because he is lazy I think. I can't actually tell. I mean he's got a contract that states clearly what services he's meant to provide, but he's got 1 million excuses for not providing them.

On here, the number of people who think that making racist jokes is not an indication of somebody being a racist. I'm having one of those moments where I think is it me or is it just MNers being ridiculous? Generally, I hear a sexist or a racist joke and I think "that's a person for me to avoid". Because as a woman of colour they're gonna hate me anyway. I know we live in upside down world but I think that's a logical assumption to make. Why would somebody make sexist or racist jokes if they were not sexist or racist?

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 29/07/2025 18:15

A woman at work turning a really simple process into a behemoth of red tape.

HowAmITheCatsGranny · 29/07/2025 18:24

Working in a supermarket, 95% of my customers are lovely, but the remaining 5 truly make me despair.. deciding they no longer want a fresh item and abandoning it in any old aisle.. holding their money in their mouth and then handing it to me (probably explains my stinking cold, but I can’t call in sick without dropping my lovely colleagues in the schtuck).

On holiday and having sun lounger woes. There aren’t enough to go around but one girl routinely reserves 3 for herself. One in the shade near her partner, one in the sun and one near the hot tub area.
Plus the inevitable large parties who reserve sun loungers for all 8 of them (including one for each child) for the whole day then sit on them for a few minutes at a time before leaving again. And all the children ever do is plonk their stuff on them. I know this is minor in the grand scheme of things but it has made me realise how selfish some people are.

Edited

But ‘we’ all let that happen. Just move the stuff. If we all moved the stuff, there would be no point reserving.

Better still ask the hotel staff or even better still move stuff to someone elses sunbed and theirs to someone elses again…repeat if you cab be bothered. Sit back and watch!

Cattery · 29/07/2025 18:51

Same old feckless father driving about delivering drugs and dumping his kids on whoever will have them. Not specifically today but just all the time. Grinds my gears.

ARichtGoodDram · 29/07/2025 18:57

People having no decorum or sensitivity when it comes to asking why our DN lives with us.

He's at a summer play session today. Forms all filled in making it clear I have PR for him. Ample opportunity for the organiser to ask me quietly yesterday or today what the situation is, if she had to ask at all.

But no. Instead it's loud and in front of DN when the "what's the deal with his parents?" question gets asked. Just so unnecessary.

Givemestrengthanddetermination · 29/07/2025 16:09

I agree @ StrongandNorthern
It's just horrendous. Words fail me when I read the accounts of those children.
The sheer depravity of those police officers.

Edited

In glad someone does.
Thank you.
Rates 'higher' in my list of concerns than dog poo and bins ... but hey - they were just women being gang raped ... with police officers (allegedly) complicit, or actively involved.
Feel sick to just think about it.
This needs an EXTERNAL investigation ...
NOT SYP.

AutisticAndMore · 29/07/2025 19:03

The news always.(Various stories) And the parents and grandparents allowing their children to run riot in a furniture store. Running about screaming, jumping on furniture, throwing cushions and bedding about, kicking things etc and without any attempt at all to control them. It’s so incredibly rude and disrespectful to the staff and to other customers.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/07/2025 19:04

A woman being really verbally aggressive to a boy of about 8 because he couldn’t open his drink. She was scathing towards him, really rough sounding

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/07/2025 19:05

@ARichtGoodDram that’s terrible!

Basically everything.

Children seem to have no manners.
Adults seem to have no manners.
everyone seems to be self obsessed. Too much navel gazing
people taking photos of food
people taking selfies
Dropping litter
each person thinks they are the centre of the universe
therapy. too much fcking therapy. It doesn’t do much good a lot of the time. Makes it worse often.
no one takes responsibility
its always someone else’s fault

Well that’s off the top of my head ;)

Crikey, where have you been today? Ps pour yourself a wine

I did try that with the 3 lounger lady. Problem being that she noticed and whizzed over immediately. Plus, she’s a young, French, stunning and often goes topless…I’m not and since the staff around the pool are all young males I’m not sure I’d get much sympathy!

I agree though, we all sort of go along with the behaviour and end up facilitating it.

BarilynBordeaux · 29/07/2025 19:11

The empathy bypass we are all being given by our focus on short, shitty, increasingly extremist media because our attentions spans are so fucked. This leads to most of our other problems to be honest.

Clinical studies show that storytelling and other long-form fictional play develops empathy and emotional recognition and response in kids. That has been lost almost entirely to a generation on social media at younger and younger ages, spewing AI, algorithm extremism, and overconsumption on infinite scroll.

developing brains are being fucked and I don’t have much hope for the future.

All of these plus people who throw McDonalds bags out of their cars when they’ve finished (happens all the time near me).

Praying4Peace · 29/07/2025 19:12

People who fail to give up their seat on public transport when there is someone standing who is clearly in need of it.

Monty27 · 29/07/2025 19:13

A motor cyclist pissing on a residential street round the corners from a nandos. I couldn't tell if he was a courier driver or not.
I put my ore in when he was finished. Filthy scumbag 😡

SnowFrogJelly · 29/07/2025 19:15

Seeing Kier Starmer on the news sucking up to DT like they are best buddies 🙄

pushthebuttonnn · 29/07/2025 19:20

I saw a post from an animal welfare site of a beautiful lurcher pup who was abused terribly. She is terrified of leads, they think she was whipped and strangled with one. Horrific. I wish animal ownership was tightened up on certain members of society.
Obviously there are cases of child abuse too which is absolutely depressing to read day in and day out.
The abuse and heartlessness of some towards the defenceless in society keeps me awake at night 😪

If I were you I'd throw their stuff onto the ground and run off with a lounger or two while they're away 😁
