I've messed up BIG time regarding our holiday....

Family are going away on a UK break. Our caravan on a park. (Vardent leisure...never used them before)

I've majorly fucked up. I was sure we had booked to go on Monday (tomorrow!!!) DH asked me to check what time we can arrive on site and I've noticed we were meant to arrive today!!

I have tried calling... reception closed at 5pm.
I've emailed and said we would be arriving tomorrow and asked them to call me.
I plan on calling them when phone lines open at 8:30am.

The terms and conditions state: that if they don't hear from you then any accommodation or pitches not claimed by 8am the day after holiday was due to start will be given away.

I am hoping that the email will count as me claiming the pitch and informing them.
The only other thing we can do is try get there for 8am...but that would mean leaving at 3am!!!

I can't call them before 8am as the phone lines don't open until 8:30.

I am ready to cry that I've ruined everyone's holiday.

The exact wording in t&c is:

Check-in times are subject to change. We ask that you vacate your Accommodation or Glamping Pod by 10.00am or Touring Pitch, Camping Pod by 12noon on your day of departure. You are welcome to arrive before your allocated check-in time and enjoy the park facilities until your accommodation or pitch is ready. If you expect to arrive after 6.00pm, please contact us to arrange key collection. For non-arrivals, unless the Holidays Team is previously notified, when the accommodation or a pitch is unclaimed by 8.00am on the day following your holiday start date, this will be treated as a cancelled booking and the accommodation or pitch may be re-let.

I have looked on web for you. Please look at the attachment? Hope this helps you and they accept what your saying. Good luck 🤞. Please don’t get downhearted until you try what the attachment says. Kind Regards

Leave now. And certainly arrive before 8 a.m.

She’s there already. It’s fine.

RedRock41 · 28/07/2025 18:21

Don’t chance it. What if they don’t answer the phone? I’d arrange to rock up for 0800.

Did you even bother to read the OP before making a comment?

@megacat any reason why you have to be so mean and rude?

Well to be fair it is a constant thing on Mumsnet, the OP says one thing and comments refer to something different eg ‘my 7year old daughter wants me to take her into the classroom every morning’ gets replies like ‘don’t embarrass your year 7 son by doing this, however much he insists’. It gets old very quickly. OP said her getting there for 8 would mean leaving at 3am. And the situation was resolved this morning but there are still people advising to call and they obviously haven’t read OPs posts which is really easy to do. So sometimes people get snippy.

limescale · 28/07/2025 18:51

😂You are not wrong.

Chinsupmeloves · 28/07/2025 19:07

Hey, quite a few of us have done it, and was much more difficult with a missed plane!

You've covered yourself, start the journey extra early and ring en route and explain that's what you're doing.

It will be fine! Xxx

hyggetyggedotorg · 28/07/2025 19:12

Have a lovely holiday OP.

Surely it would be very unlikely that anyone would still be on reception to give them the key to the caravan in the middle of the night though? These places rarely have someone on reception all night.

It is their caravan they are just booking a pitch

therealduchess · 28/07/2025 19:46

Think you'll be ok as you have notified them in time, by email. You poor thing though. This is the sort of mix up Id make then the panic would be off the scale!
I really hope you get on okay tomorrow. Got everything crossed for you!

MyCoralHedgehog · 28/07/2025 19:53

I’m sure you’ll be ok. If they were going to reallocate the pitch they would check emails first

And lo! There were loads of posts from people who do click ‘see all’ and read all the ops posts explaining that it was fine and she was there already.

Livelifeandloveit · 28/07/2025 20:16

Try to find the 24hr security team telephone number for the site, and inform them of your mistake. I have a static caravan on a holiday site, and if there is a problem that's what I would advise.

@NoCommentingFromNowOn 😆👏 fair cop

Disturbia81 · 28/07/2025 22:27

Phew glad all is okay. I think with stuff like this there is leeway, they want you on the site spending money, they don’t want bad feedback, and who else will buy that pitch at short notice.

minipie · 28/07/2025 22:44

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/07/2025 20:37

So you HAVE notified them, via email, before 8am tomorrow. I would read that as being within the Terms and Conditions and would be raging if they gave it away without having read their emails first.

I agree with this. “Unless previously notified”. Your email today = previous notification.

There must be lots of times where someone gets held up a day, medical reasons etc. They don’t want to cancel genuine customers, they just don’t want no shows.

ETA: Duh ignore me. Should’ve read updates.

Realjournal123 · 29/07/2025 03:00

There are no vacancies on the website as you notified them and it’s yours. You’re just late.

BoomerBoy · 29/07/2025 07:48

It's 2025. An email is a legal document. You claimed the space as you were unexpectedly delayed. You don't expect to have to send a messenger to the site, or a carrier pigeon.

AsIsaidearlier · 29/07/2025 08:26

Ghost Princess will have had her holiday and gone home and people will still be on here posting about what she should be doing to sort it out.
