I've messed up BIG time regarding our holiday....

Family are going away on a UK break. Our caravan on a park. (Vardent leisure...never used them before)

I've majorly fucked up. I was sure we had booked to go on Monday (tomorrow!!!) DH asked me to check what time we can arrive on site and I've noticed we were meant to arrive today!!

I have tried calling... reception closed at 5pm.
I've emailed and said we would be arriving tomorrow and asked them to call me.
I plan on calling them when phone lines open at 8:30am.

The terms and conditions state: that if they don't hear from you then any accommodation or pitches not claimed by 8am the day after holiday was due to start will be given away.

I am hoping that the email will count as me claiming the pitch and informing them.
The only other thing we can do is try get there for 8am...but that would mean leaving at 3am!!!

I can't call them before 8am as the phone lines don't open until 8:30.

I am ready to cry that I've ruined everyone's holiday.

Delighted for you all. Aren't holidays somewhat stressful all the same, no matter how much planning and packing etc., inevitably something goes wrong and you leave the baby behind or something lol 😂

What's the weather like there, and no matter what, hope you sit back and relax and enjoy.

littlefireseverywhere · 28/07/2025 09:46

Fab news, have a great time!

samarrange · 28/07/2025 09:52

You'll be fine. There aren't going to be many families turning up on spec with a caravan at this time of year (unlike, say, a restaurant), and people arriving a day late is also going to be something that happens due to illness or car problems.

But they could have rung up or booked online

Glad you got there! I’ve made some major holiday fuckups the past couple of years, well tbh one was the holiday operators’ fault but I blamed myself because they tried to (as is my tendency )
im audhd and perimenopause which is an awful combo, it’s very heartwarming on here to read other people share those stories. I instantly jump to self flagellation mode and really negative self talk, it’s so helpful when other people share their stuff like this.
being a mum and juggling so much is hard, it’s inevitable at some point a plate will stop spinning.
im in awe of the women for whom this never seems to happen !

Like others, I came back to this thread hoping for a positive outcome.
So pleased it has all worked out. What a relief for you. Have a fabulous holiday!

Pasithean · 28/07/2025 10:10

It says 8 am the day after holiday is due to start. Surely that means Tuesday.

True, but it would have been ultra last minute. There would be another thread somewhere saying "OMG I thought I'd booked my pitch at Vardent leisure for the last week of July, what are my chances of getting a cancellation?". I'm guessing that not many people do their holiday planning like that. 🤷‍♂️

Anyway, it seems it all worked out! 🙏

TimeForABreak4 · 28/07/2025 10:11

Brilliant, enjoy your holiday!

Holiday was due to start yesterday

Thebibleofdave · 28/07/2025 10:28

Enjoy your holiday!💃

JamPotJenny · 28/07/2025 10:35

OP if it’s any consolation, I’ve done the same if not worse. Arrived in my foreign destination with 2 toddlers a week too late. Vomited upon arrival with the cold realisation that I’d majorly MAJORLY fucked up. I still have a visceral response when thinking of it (and typing it). Hideous feeling. Over worked, lack of sleep and tons of stress I blame.

i hope you’ll be ok!

UnctuousUnicorns · 28/07/2025 10:46

"At least it wasn't the other way round...arriving on Sunday to find you'd booked for Monday!"

If they've no vacant pitches, some (not all) parks have a holding area where a - very - early arrival can park up until their pitch becomes available. Failing that it's find a layby, service area, back of a large supermarket car park etc...

Enjoy your holiday, OP! 🙂

Grazka · 28/07/2025 10:46

So pleased for you all, have a fab holiday :)

Ilikegreen · 28/07/2025 10:47

Have a great holiday!

woodlandcalm · 28/07/2025 10:48

Time to wind down and enjoy your holiday now OP. 🍹

limescale · 28/07/2025 10:49

OP, this is just the sort of thing I do - a reflection of busy people juggling lots and lots of things (and a dollop of 'seat of pants' lifestyle).

I'm so glad it's all going to be OK. Have a great holiday.

NCTDN · 28/07/2025 10:52

At least this way you’re not waiting till around 4pm to check in! Have a great time.

elliesmummy19 · 28/07/2025 11:12

Ah I didn’t see that you had got through to the actual park and they said it’s fine. Yay! Breathe!

We’re flying to Canada on Monday and this thread has made me anxiously check all our passports, flights, eTAs, airport hotel etc so thanks for that 😂

Famallama · 28/07/2025 11:32

GhostPrincess · 28/07/2025 09:11

Got through to the actual holiday park....they are now aware and no problems. Said they will see us when we get there.

Feeling a lot better now.

So glad this got sorted. Have a lovely time away.

Delphiniumandlupins · 28/07/2025 11:41

Great news. Stories like this remind me of the time I got our flights wrong and turned up at the airport a day late! Fortunately there was space on the flight, and it was only to Paris. However, our return flights were cancelled as well because I'd booked as return. Cost quite a lot to rebook. My DH irritates the hell out of me sometimes but never once cast that back at me.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 28/07/2025 11:54

i’ve just read the entire thread and am delighted that it’s all worked out.

Have a great trip @GhostPrincess
