Cleaners before and after photos?

Bobnobob · 27/07/2025 17:38

I’m looking for a cleaner and noticed that someone had asked for recommendations on our local facebook group so I had a look at the facebook pages of some of the recommendations.

Several post ‘before and after’ photos which has completely put me off using them. I just really hate the idea of people seeing my bathroom/kitchen before the clean! They don’t post names but obviously my friends and family would recognise my rooms.

One of them showed a shit stained toilet (which I personally would never leave for a cleaner so maybe it served them right). Also maybe these people have given explicit permission for the cleaner to do this and they don’t do it with everyone… but AIBU to not hire any cleaners that regularly post images of dirty houses? It feels like an invasion of privacy and makes me wonder about their judgement.

I feel the same as you about all trades now. I don't want photos of my home online. It's private.

Rootatoot · 27/07/2025 17:41

Agree especially with cleaners. I've seen a local carpet cleaner who shared the stain that some poor old lady had made after soiling herself when she's fallen. I thought it was appalling to share that.

FOJN · 27/07/2025 17:41

I would have thought you could stipulate that they are not to post photographs of your house on social media.

ChesterFoxE · 27/07/2025 17:42

You just tell them NOT to post pictures, simples!

In my business (not a cleaner) I always ask a clients permission if I can post before & after pics…if they say no I respect their decision.

AhBiscuits · 27/07/2025 17:42

Ours asked if she could and I said no. Just make it clear, no photos.

AllotmentHappy · 27/07/2025 17:45

i know you can tell them no photos, but it would completely put me off using them.

steff13 · 27/07/2025 17:46

I assume that they ask if it's okay for them to post photos. I just had new windows and siding in a new door put on my house and the company asked if they could do before and after photos.

I wouldn’t assume that at all… I can’t imagine that the owner of the house with shit in their toilet was happy for the cleaner to plaster it on the internet.

I can't imagine that they would leave their toilet in that state and let anyone else see it ever. But apparently they did.

Solocup · 27/07/2025 20:01

Agree. Photos like that put me off someone. When I did choose someone it was on the understanding of no photos.

Shesellsseashellsnotinmystreet · 27/07/2025 20:02

Cleaner here.. It astounds me cleaning companies think it is OK!!
I am fully booked every week. And never post a pic. Our local neighbour groups post pics and are always touting for business.. They haven't clicked why they aren't busy..

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 27/07/2025 20:16

Totally agree with you, and that includes hairdressers and any other service I pay for. I use that service because I want to change the original condition. I don’t want people seeing the original condition!

SecretNameforMN · 27/07/2025 20:24

I discovered that a decorator had posted photos of the inside of my house on the NextDoor app!

Shesellsseashellsnotinmystreet · 27/07/2025 21:16

We had an electrician in our less than spotless bedroom.. The street view in shot. My mate rang and said is that your house? I was fuming!

KeepcalmandtellthemtoFoff · 27/07/2025 21:21

I think they would ask OP or at least most would if they're a respectable business

KeepcalmandtellthemtoFoff · 27/07/2025 21:21

Also most people wouldn't know if it's your house

A good cleaner is worth their weight in gold! I’m so pleased business is going well for you without the need for posting photos.

Surely they would ask permission or you could tell them not to post any photos as a condition of employment?

Our local beauty salon does this - client (often named) before botox /fillers and then again after (often looking worse and all shiny and red). Presume permission is given but I can't think why anyone would agree.

3KidsPlusDdog · 27/07/2025 22:02

@orangewasp I got a small discount once from a nail tech when I allowed her to post a picture of my Christmas nails on her social media

caringcarer · 28/07/2025 00:06

My cleaner has never felt the need to post these before and after photos. I did agree to 2 student painters and decorators taking before and after photos for their college portfolio. They did a brilliant job. It was just a plain painted cream wall before now it's got lovely wallpaper on it. I wouldn't mind them posting that photo on SM if it helped them to get more work, probably because it did not look bad before, just a bit plain.

mumofagoodun · 28/07/2025 18:17

I'm a cleaner and would never take photos in a client's home. It's an invasion of privacy. Either make it clear to that cleaner photos are not allowed and is she happy with that or look elsewhere for someone with good references.

Fynoderee · 28/07/2025 18:20

I am a cleaner.
I post B&A photos. My photos are all close up, ie - tap, a sink, a plug hole, a toilet bowl. We live in a very hard water area so generally I’m taking the photos showing that after it has been removed. They are not full room photos so the client, and their home, cannot be identified from the photos.
It’s in my T&Cs that I take photos for my social media but if clients prefer no photos then they can just say and that’s fine.
I have done a Timelapse video of a bathroom clean showing everything that gets cleaned - skirting, towel rail, light fittings, all tiles and obviously the bathroom fittings themselves, but I showed it to my client first and she was happy for it to be shared.

gotellsomeone · 28/07/2025 18:21

How else are they supposed to advertise their work though? Same with a hairdresser, tattoo artist, nail artist etc
