AIBU to say men who believe this are sexist pricks

Men who refuse to watch the euro finals tomorrow as it’s women’s football - so what’s the point and refuse to watch, and say this in front of they wives and daughters are misogynistic pricks and their wives and daughters deserve so much better?

OP posts:
Newmum738 · 27/07/2025 12:03

I think the women’s game has so much more character. Luckily, my DH is supportive though not a big football fan anyway.

But I’ve never once been sexist - and still copped shit. This is why people get pissed off.

Not gonna lie, there’s definitely been a hint of sexism in your posts. Anyone who uses the argument that they wouldn’t progress in a men’s tournament just sounds a bit sexist to me 🤷🏼‍♀️
or not very bright…

I’m not the one who compared them initially. But yes, I must be a sexist because I don’t participate in the enforced support of the women’s national team!

RainSoakedNights · 27/07/2025 12:01

But you’ve been in support of the comments saying the women’s do better than the men’s!

No I haven’t!! I’m a supporter of women’s football but I don’t feel the need to compare it to the men’s game. They’re different and I’d like them both to do well.

That’s not what I said…

Comprehension appears to not be your strong point.
I don’t care whether you support women’s football or not. Not sure how many different ways I can write that.

Newbutoldfather · 27/07/2025 12:10

Some women’s sport just isn’t close to the quality of men’s.

You can say I am a sexist pig but the objective test is how much black market tickets cost.

If you look at the women’s black market prices, they are 1/4 to 1/2 of men’s black market prices. If women liked women’s sport equally, you would never get that disparity.

It is the same argument as to why it is unfair to allow trans women to compete in women’s sport. Women just aren’t as strong or fast and people want to watch the strongest and the fastest. I don’t think that is sexist.

nomas · 27/07/2025 12:10

My husband enjoys both men’s and women’s football and goes to support both local teams.

I have no interest in football and can’t sit through a match, no matter who is playing, male or female.

But yes, if my husband denigrated women’s football, I would think he was sexist.

derxa · 27/07/2025 12:11

I’ll be watching but not for feminist reasons. I’m hoping for a Spain win. Also hoping that female commentator won’t be bellowing ‘Chloe Kelly!’ in a really annoying way. I love most sport but forcing people to watch will never work. It’s supposed to be entertaining.

Omg what a sexist post

Somehow the women manage to do wayyy better than men ever do

Edited

It's not a sexist post. I really tried to enjoy women's football but I just don't find it as entertaining or exciting.

Women footballers don’t dive as much as men. Men’s football is ruined by all the diving.

By that logic I’m guessing you refuse to watch any women’s sport? Because men are ALWAYS going to be faster and stronger.
Would you refuse to watch your daughter compete because she’ll never be as fast or as strong as the boys?

Well apart from the fact you’re wrong and they did last time, are you honestly suggesting you can’t recognise there’s a difference in the women or men reaching the final?

Edited

Except there isn’t competitively
Women play women
Men play men

Not saying the game is the same, it isn’t we know that, but the competition to getting in the final is.

It isn’t. Many European and international countries have huge men’s footballing programmes, but they don’t for women. The quality outside of the top 2-3 teams in the women’s competition is much, much lower than the men’s, where there’s a good 10-15 footballing powerhouses.

Really??

Delphiniumandlupins · 27/07/2025 12:18

I think it's not just down to the 'quality' of the game as plenty of people still support, and turn out to matches, of lower leagues. I don't really watch any football though so maybe I don't understand.

The thing is, you end up supporting your team (usually) through location or family ties - I support Liverpool because it's my dad's team. And you hope they get better.

Well yes, it literally is. They are the best of top flight football in Europe for their sex.

its like saying its easier for woman sprinters to reach the Olympic final- they don’t have to go as fast!

But that’s because for the majority, that will be the team the support.

I support a premier league club as they’re my local team. I watch other premier league matches but wouldn’t ever watch lower league teams (maybe a championship every now and again) unless it was an FA Cup match.

It depends if you view men’s and women’s football as exactly the same or if you view them as different versions of the same sport.
Are you judging the men and women on exactly the same criteria or appreciating how they both play the game but in different ways?
They’re different tournaments so the fact they’ve got to the final should be celebrated as an achievement in its own right rather than comparing it to the men’s tournament.

ToadRage · 27/07/2025 12:24

Not everyone is interested in women's sports. My husband didn't bother watching women's rugby until i expressed an interest and on some occasions even he admits the women's game is more exciting than the men's. At big games like the challenge cup they play one after the other so you get two games for the price of one, the stadium is still much fuller for the men's game. My Mum still maintains that she doesn't like women's rugby, does that make her a sexist prick too? If you or your daughter are interested in women's sport you watch, it he isn't that is his decision. If your only on about football, my house is a football free zone.

Yes I agree with this but you play who you are faced with and as has proven in the past smaller teams knock out bigger teams all the time.

Every tournament there is a hardcore group of grunts who think England are the best team in the world which is objectively wrong because “hello empty trophy cabinet” - England (men) are a lot of people’s favourite team but best team?
Best on paper? Best on rankings? “Still and empty trophy cabinet”

Winning on the day matters regardless of who you face, and if everything goes as paper ranking at some point to win, usually to get into the final, you have to be able to beat every team on any day.

You could say when England won the World Cup in 1966 there were only really a handful of other football powerhouses at the time. But no one diminishes that. (Partly because without it England would have nadda).

Absolutely, of course it should.

I think the issue is, we need to stop comparing the two as they’re not comparable.

The England women’s team are doing absolutely fantastically.

However, it’s not the same achievement for the men and can’t believe people would suggest it is.
Women’s football is nowhere near as competitive as men’s football.

But you're ignoring that in Europe, you have probably 4 nations who put the same into their men and women's teams. England, France, Spain and Portugal are the four big hitters in women's football.

In the mens you have Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Croatia, etc etc.

Outside of the Euros, in women's you have the USA and Australia.

In the mens you have all of the South American nations, African nations, etc etc.

So there is still nuance to this argument.
