To think if you’re going to launch a new political party and want to make a splash, you’d think up a name before doing so

Just that really.

It just smacks of something half-arsed and ill-conceived.

Not expecting a full policy agenda but having a name should be bare minimum.

To be a complete cynic - create a news “story” about name confusion and get loads of free publicity to launch your new party

Willquery123 · 25/07/2025 01:19

And buy the appropriate domain names (looking at you, Elon)...

NellitheNelephant · 25/07/2025 01:25

Well, if it is our party perhaps they want us to name it.

Sundaybananas · 25/07/2025 01:29

Can you imagine the confusion in a few years?

”Who are you going to vote for then Edna?”

”Your party”

“What, LibDems? I thought you were going with that Corbyn nutter. What’s his party called again?”

”Your party”

”Righto Edna 🙄”

Party McPartyface

Fargo79 · 25/07/2025 20:11

Well they've certainly managed to make a splash. I doubt very much that the lack of a name says anything about the party itself. But appreciate that a lot of people would love to see JC fail and will clutch at any possible straw to try and criticise him.

RubyBirdy · 25/07/2025 20:17

I care more about the policies than whatever the name will be to be honest.

Maryberrysaga · 25/07/2025 20:18

It’s Corbyn, he of the magic money tree. I’m not remotely surprised he hasn’t really thought it through. We can look forward to lots more totally uncosted “promises” though. What fun.

Fair point but a political party is a brand - for it to sell it needs a name and an image. Most people aren’t going to read the policies in any detail. It’s all so half-arsed. If he can’t do it properly, why bother?

Indeed, seems odd but it's just a vanity exercise so doesn't really matter.

No. Looking indecisive and incompetent does not gain support.

Nannerlmoz · 25/07/2025 22:16

I wish they’d just admit it doesn’t have a name because they can’t think of one.

I will never forget that almost immediately after he lost the General Election some of his policies had to be implemented because of Covid. I couldn't believe it when all the homeless were suddenly taken off the streets and given a place to stay.

People laughed at him promising all families free wifi - and then we suddenly saw the sense of that because children had to be homeschooled and many of the families couldn't afford the required wifi.

He wanted amenities to be publicly owned again. The argument for them being sold off had always been that putting them on the market created competition and led to better services. Now we find that those services have been run down, squeezed for profit rather than quality of service.

KassandraOfSparta · 27/07/2025 09:06

Of course it's half-arsed. It's two people who have never had proper jobs outside politics, in their front room, trying to act like grown ups.

Sunshineandblueskysalltheway · 27/07/2025 09:14

'People laughed at him promising all families free wifi'

People laughed because they are so utterly wedded to their own oppression and victim hood. 'Free WiFi for little old us?!

Getting those people off their fucking knees will be Corbyn's biggest challenge.

If in doubt go down the Boaty McBoatface route. Party McPartyface does have a certain ring about it.

Radioundermypillow · 27/07/2025 10:44

I think Corbyn is the attraction. I'm not sure the people who have registered really care about the party 'making a splash' with a flashy name.

Is this the first you’ve heard of Mr Corbyn?

Papyrophile · 27/07/2025 10:52

An article in today's Times suggested "Jezbollah".

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/07/2025 10:59

Some of those manifesto promises were quite good ideas but I really wouldn’t want someone who wanted to decrease our defence capability to be in power - or to have been in power from 2019.

Boris Johnson was absolutely god awful in almost every respect (Truss and Sunak also) but in a way I’m glad he won bearing in mind what has happened in the world since.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/07/2025 11:00

The best description I’ve heard of them is a Temu Bernie Saunders and AOC 😄

HerewardtheSleepy · 27/07/2025 11:00

Yes, but if J Corbyn had any political ability he'd have been in No 10 in 2017!

And yet it now has more members than the Tory party

Farage is surging in the polls, so it seems to work.

And Labour.

Although it’s interest rather than paying. Still high though.
