Paid for seats on ryan air and kids still sat separately

Has anyone had any success getting a refund and compensati on.? We paid the extra to ensure we were with the kids all together and they sat all four of us completely separately, not even across an aisle or one row away like five and twenty five rows away from each other

How did it happen? Did your boarding passes show you sitting together but then they directed you to different seats? Or when you paid to select seats was there an error there and the ones you had selected where not what was confirmed?

Keroppi · 23/07/2025 12:12

What did the staff say at the time? At check in etc

PollyBell · 23/07/2025 12:16

I would have raised it when they gave us boarding passes

ForFunGoose · 23/07/2025 12:25

Need more details because I can’t see how this would happen.

FrenchandSaunders · 23/07/2025 12:26

Surely when you pay for seats you choose them online? Did they not give you the seats you paid for?

DiscoBob · 23/07/2025 12:28

Were you in the actual seats you booked or not?
If not why didn't you say at the time, no, we are these seats in this row. And show the staff your booking of said seats?

Good luck getting compensation from RyanAir.

StillweriseLH · 23/07/2025 12:31

But you choose your actual seat on the plane map with Ryan air, so how did it happen? Did you get out in different seats to your boarding passes?

jesihar · 23/07/2025 12:31

Yeah agree with PPs. It makes no sense, if you paid to be allocated together, the seats would have been together on boarding passes

madnessitellyou · 23/07/2025 12:32

Did you raise this at the time? How did you select seats?

ConnieHeart · 23/07/2025 12:32

Sounds like a dream lol. No seriously we need more info as per the pps

malmi · 23/07/2025 12:35

So you didn’t get the seats you specifically chose and paid extra for? How did that happen? The only way i can think is that you booked a whole row that exists on their larger planes but they switched the flight to their smaller plane and your row no longer existed. Bad luck if that happened. You should be able to claim the fee you paid for the seats back from customer services but you might have to argue for it. Do you have proof that this happened?

ViaRia01 · 23/07/2025 12:35

also how old are the children? I recently flew with Ryanair and I was pleasantly surprised to find that they offered free seat selection as standard because we were travelling with small children.

I know it’s slightly besides the point but I’m surprised you had to pay for seat selection in the first place.

ilovesooty · 23/07/2025 12:35

I agree with the posts above. Did you not get the seats you chose and paid for?

ChompandaGrazia · 23/07/2025 12:37

Last time I flew Ryan air I didn’t get the seats that we had chosen. As it was we got better ones so I didn’t complain. I think there had been a last minute change of plane to one with a different layout.

mutinyonthetwix · 23/07/2025 12:38

You'll need to check the Ts&Cs. You might get any seat selection fee refunded depending on what they say but I doubt there's going to be any compensation on top.

nonevernotever · 23/07/2025 12:39

I've known this happen when the plane was changed to one with a different configuration, and one of the four booked seats didn't exist on the new plane, and the alternative Ryanair provided would have meant a six year old placed in the emergency exit seat. I don't know the outcome of the refund request though

Ylylyll · 23/07/2025 12:40

Are your kids over 12? The family bundle only applies if you pay one adult seat and have kids under 12. Otherwise you have to pay per seat for everyone if you want to sit together

Kuretake · 23/07/2025 12:40

I don't know why people are saying they can't see how it could happen, it's quite common. Sometimes a change in aircraft, sometimes they re-allocate to fit other priorities such as people with younger children.

Ylylyll · 23/07/2025 12:40

Otherwise if you didn't get what you paid for you can claim a refund but you're not going to be compensated, particularly off Ryanair.

junkmaail · 23/07/2025 12:41

Didn’t you have to select your seats when you booked them? I did when I flew with Ryan Air last year.

Fourteenandahalf · 23/07/2025 12:41

I'm flying with Ryanair today and I've paid to sit together and printed my boarding passes, but on the boarding pass it says we could be moved if flight staff need to.

3luckystars · 23/07/2025 12:52

No way would I have accepted this at the time.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 23/07/2025 12:55

They must have explained why you were given different seats to those you'd booked. Did it seem like a reasonable explanation? Have they said you'll get a refund for the seat selections?

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 23/07/2025 12:57

Can you explain how this happened?

What explanation was provided as to why they needed to move to from the seats that they had booked?

Well yes but highly, HIGHLY unlikely that they would need to move a family of 4 all completely away from each other.
