To think the CEO caught at Coldplay resigning is a bit of a performance

I just... don't get it. I'm not condoning affairs but people do it all the time. I don't understand why they had to resign. Their personal lives deserve to blow up, of course, but it's a bit puritanical and false to pretend that, as a society, we care this much.

It doesn't affect their ability to do their jobs, if the cameras hadn't caught them there wouldn't have been nearly as much fuss. I hate the social media panic and showmanship.

Is there any need to be so unpleasant?

She looks good to me, attractive and fit. She also looks about the same age as him. It may come as a shock, but older people have sex. Even grandmas.

Of course you can’t have a head of HR having an affair with a CEO without a conflict of interest. If someone went to her with an issue, she would not be able to manage that impartially. And you can’t have a CEO dallying with a member of staff he manages.

And we don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes. When and why she was hired.

Starting a thread to highlight that people talking about these people has ‘gone too far’ is strange. This is the first thread about it I’ve seen on here.

Have you been offline for the past couple of days, this story is absolutely everywhere including several threads on here. Personally I think it has gone too far, it should be a private matter between the families involved, the children particularly don't deserve worldwide attention

And yes I am aware of the irony of me commenting

'That'?!

She maybe has a great personality. Tbf in other pictures of them that have surfaced they both look attractive. The clip perhaps not very complimentary, I doubt the dark haired lady stood next to them grinning usually has a bright scarlet face either.

Jambolaya · 20/07/2025 09:49

Their reaction to being on camera was absurd. Just act normally, the camera moves on and in all likelihood nothing would have happened. It definitely wouldn’t have gone viral and been the subject of about a million memes, parodies, and piss-takes.

Letsgotosomewhereelse · 20/07/2025 09:51

cyvguhb · 20/07/2025 09:38

Apparently someone did do just that, the woman who filmed it has been in a lot of the media too.

Many people live stream entire concerts. The kids cam wasn’t a momentary 2 sec video - Coldplay were singing to each couple they featured. Even if they hadn’t reacted the way they did it would have got out, people were watching it live across the net

By all accounts she had already split with her husband and he and his wife were separated.

There are so many, so many affairs going on around all of us - I can’t get worked up about the morality of it all. Clear issues with shagging a direct report obviously - silly silly silly

BeyondMyWits · 20/07/2025 09:51

With power comes responsibility. They have both failed in their responsibilities to their families and their workplace. He has failed in his responsibilities to her as her boss.

I am, like many others, a little glad that our generic moral compass has called them out on both their affair and workplace responsibilities. That there is still some recognition out there that this is wrong.

Didimum · 20/07/2025 09:52

Of course he has to resign and not just ‘performatively’. He was put on leave by the board of directors, his continued position there would have been untenable, and he will have lost the trust and respect of his team and his clients.

Depending on their policies, this may have amounted to gross misconduct to both have an undisclosed relationship with a colleague and to involve a third colleague in the deception.

All such unprofessional behaviour that definitely warrants a resignation. Not to mention that on the slim chance his wife and he want reconciliation then it’s wise to leave the workplace where the affair took place.

TheOnlyAletheia · 20/07/2025 09:53

I worked at a place where the (female) CEO had a very close friendship with the (female) Head of HR - holidaying together etc It definitely had an impact on the way that the business was run and the way the CEO was able to behave. That wasn't frowned upon in the same way that the Astronomer issue has been.

I find the glee about this really distasteful, marriage breakdowns and affairs happen, it's bad enough for the families without it being plastered everywhere. I also worry for the mental health of all those involved.

pictoosh · 20/07/2025 09:53

I agree regarding the media furore and the saturation on SM.

I don't understand why Joe Public needs to opinionate on this affair. There are countless memes about it now...no doubt some created by people who are cheats themselves.

It's the determination to utterly crush. The affair is a drop in the ocean compared to the tsunami of public humiliation.

oudle · 20/07/2025 09:55

Obviously their affair was wrong but the public shaming and the gleefulness of it makes me uncomfortable

Dontcallmescarface · 20/07/2025 09:55

The whole thing is way OTT. No he shouldn't have been having an affair but he was and it's not like he's the first man in a position of power to be caught. As for the concept of the "kiss cam" what a cringe fest that shit is.

No, on MN. I haven’t seen any threads before this one on MN.

I have seen plenty of articles about it on the internet. Including photos of his ex wife including her name, and his children. And today on Apple News there are articles about the other woman, the one with the brown hair who was laughing.

Yes

The ageism and misogyny is strong with this one.

oudle · 20/07/2025 09:58

I disagree with that. Lots of people shaming them will have done morally questionable, wanting to ahame them is morally questionable imo.

ThatCyanCat · 20/07/2025 09:58

There is no way they were the only people in that stadium who were having an affair. It's wrong, obviously, but international shaming on this scale is out of all proportion. People take their own lives over less than this.

pictoosh · 20/07/2025 09:59

I don't think most are led by their generic moral compass, no.

oudle · 20/07/2025 09:59

Why do people keep saying this? They reacted as many would, very easy to sit there in hindsight & say they should have acted "normal".

oudle · 20/07/2025 10:00

People take their own lives over less than this.

That's the bit that makes me very uncomfortable.

Caerulea · 20/07/2025 10:01

They went to a Coldplay gig - not some secret walk or hotel meet up or stock cupboard shenanigans. A bloody concert, the arrogance of it lol, makes them look like arseholes. The global memeifying of it IS fascinating though, I'll give you that.

Only take-aways are:

I hope it's helping the wife cope by seeing him so publicly humiliated & that it's cathartic for her

That the commentary with 'comparison photos' of the two women along the lines of 'cheat on her with that?!' can absolutely fuck off

Cadenza12 · 20/07/2025 10:01

I think it's mad in this day and age. Ok embarrassing and major personal implications but good grief Queen Victoria isn't still on the throne.

oudle · 20/07/2025 10:02

This is about his capability to do his job. It’s about him showing he can’t be trusted with important issues as he has poor character.

Hasn't stopped Trump getting the top job!

Lovelife85 · 20/07/2025 10:05

Bad press and high end employees are expected to lead by example.

You cannot have a CEO conducting a relationship with a head of HR.Its unethical and unprofessional. This is common knowledge and if you have worked in the corporate world you would know this..

it’s brought bad press to the Company and yes,it is a big deal.I expect his bit on the side to be pushed into tendering her resignation at some point very soon..

HelpMeUnpickThis · 20/07/2025 10:06

DancingNotDrowning · 20/07/2025 09:33

Absolutely he had to go. Apart from the massive distraction the issue had caused - which is massively unattractive to investors who just want steady leadership, it speaks to a level of toxicity and impropriety that is no longer appropriate in the corporate world.

He is entirely responsible for making decisions around her compensation, promotion and opportunities, whilst she is in a position to influence those of virtually everyone else in the company - so this sort of behavior severely damages trust and makes it extremely difficult to argue that their relationship didn’t have a negative impact on the trajectory of others in the organisation.

even the perception that it did is enough to make both their positions untenable.

This!

I really don’t understand why people can’t comprehend this.

oudle · 20/07/2025 10:07

I really don’t understand why people can’t comprehend this.

I understand why he lost his job & don't have an issue with that. Although I wouldn't say that happens in every case in the corporate world, it's normally the women pushed out. It's the gleeful public shaming I don't like.
