To wear tan wedges and bag to a white party?

We’re going to a white party where you have to wear all white. Never been to one before and wouldn’t be my choice but a big family event we can’t get out of … anyway …. For those who have been to a white party- I’m trying to not pack (flying with a basic airline hang luggage only) more than I need to and the shoes I’m wearing for the main event and bag are tan coloured. Is this ok to also wear to a white party?! Reluctant to spend on a suitcase to carry more across and also money on white accessories I’ll never wear again.

Any Insights much appreciated!

Definitely and I'm 99% sure there will be other people with other colours.

User415373 · 18/07/2025 15:17

I take it you're wearing a white outfit? Yes I would definitely wear the shoes you already have, it'll be fine!

Trickedbyadoughnut · 18/07/2025 15:17

Would be fine for me - I've done it before and loads of other people did too.

WildCherryBlossom · 18/07/2025 15:19

Tan / cream / beige / ivory / silver / gold or other neutrals would all be ok.

KilkennyCats · 18/07/2025 15:27

I’ve never heard of a white party. What’s the point of it?

Same! I’m not sure - but I’m very pale so it isn’t my colour 🙈😬

Thanks so my outfit is off white- ivory like a wedding colour rather than bright white and then I can use my accessories which will add warmth

I can guarantee there'll be at least a couple of people not wearing white, or only part white.

Tan accessories are fine. Daft and wasteful to spend money on things you'll never use again.

sweetpickle2 · 18/07/2025 15:34

Honestly agog people still have white parties post Diddy! I know he didn't invent the concept, but they're synonymous.

Tan accessories are fine, OP.

Two things that amaze me.

  1. Anyone would be so controlling as to host a party and tell everyone what to wear.
  2. Anyone would accept an invitation from someone who wants to control what they wear at their party.

Each to their own but it's bloody strange.

KaitlynnFairchild · 18/07/2025 15:55

We are going to a white party next week, my DS will be wearing a white T-shirt but demin shorts and I am sure DH will only be giving a nod to the theme.

Wish we were going to the neon party instead.

This was my first thought too!

TheChosenTwo · 18/07/2025 15:57

We stayed at a hotel once and a neighbouring hotel were hosting a white party (think they did it every week) and were trying to encourage people from our hotel to come over. No thanks 😂 white is not the colour for me, I’m notoriously clumsy and spill things down me constantly!!
the wedges and bag will be fine; don’t worry.

I actually 💯 agree with you. Very much so. I find it bizarre - we’re all middle age, post kids and my figure isn’t like it was when I was young! I dress to what suits me and my colouring and the event is abroard and already costing money / time and now extra with the dress code. It’s also in 2 weeks time so it’s been a mad panic to find something - saving grace it’s meant to be hot where we’re going so hopefully it’ll cool me down 😂

White is quite an unforgiving colour on a lot of skin tones. I look dreadful in it! 😂 is this a thing people do?

JaninaDuszejko · 18/07/2025 16:02

So glad I don't know people like this. I'd have another event that means I couldn't attend. It's so wasteful and controlling to insist everyone wears a colour of your specification, the only way someone should do that is by being the person who buys the clothes.

Anyway, tan shoes are fine and if the person who organised this thinks it isn't then tell them to fuck off.

Oh I love a white party theme. To me it makes me think of 'Dinner en Blanc'
Lots of city's host them in the summer very glam and exclusive. Limited tickets, venue kept secret untill the day of the event. some really amazing outfits , people really have fun with it. It's been around long before PD.

This honestly sounds horrendous.

And it may have nothing to do with Diddy, but I personally can only make that association now. He used 'glam' and 'exclusivity' to make his appealing too.

pizzaHeart · 18/07/2025 17:00

Im in the camp that white party means you are mostly in white or have something white but you are not in white head to toes so yes tan wedges and bag sound ok.

Never heard of a white party before let alone associated with him!

Vodkamartini3olives · 18/07/2025 17:06

@sweetpickle2 Well we all enjoy different things. I see it as a fun opportunity to get dressed up and spend a summer evening eating, drinking and dancing with friends at a beautiful venue. Good thing is, it's not your thing don't have to go.

You could do exactly the same thing without being told what to wear though.

You and me both.
I would hate to wear white. I can guarantee I would spill something or rub up against a dirty surface within the first few minutes and then spend the rest of the time feeling grubby.

Do people eat at these events too? My God can you imagine the nightmare of a finger buffet in these circumstances. Hope they have the sense not to serve beetroot.

Of course you could. As a host you get to decide what you want for your party. As an invited guest you get to decide to accept it and take part or decline if it's not something you want to do.

And that’s all you get at the end of all this buildup - a dinner party where everyone wears white?
What exactly is “glam and exclusive” about these events? 😂
