HIya

I have lost 5 stone through calorie defecit and my BMR means my defecit now brings my daily calories down to 1200 to lose weight
(I know the Maths is right)

I've been plateaued for a year (I'd like to lose 2 more stone) but it just won't shift (I'm 50)
I watched a weight coach talking about how low calorie will stop working as the body will adapt, but I was wondering how does Mounjaro work then?
Doesn't that just make you not want to eat as much , therefore low cal?
If I tried it for this last bit would it work?

I do eat healthily on it as much as I can. Only if I genuinely forget to eat because there’s no cue of hunger and I’m racing around work or the kids do I actually eat way too little.

It’s just easier to eat less and more healthily because you’re eating to fuel yourself rather than eating for pleasure (in my experience). I have to force myself to eat every meal because I have zero hunger.

It sounds like you might be on too high a dose? Or have you recently started taking it? Zero hunger isn't a good thing. I can certainly go longer without food if I'm really busy now, but I absolutely still have hunger cues. I think in my first few weeks the suppression was much higher and I was glad when it wore off to something much more reasonable - my appetite is curbed not killed and that's a perfect balance.

Perhaps I will now I know your experience - just assumed what I felt was normal!

Thank you.

Glad to help. I’m a huge advocate for the drug, it’s changed my life but you need to be sensible. You might just need to drop down a dose - see what your provider says.

So we need to ‘crave’ necessary foods? I manage to eat them without craving, what’s the issue there?

It removes any desire to eat them…

BournardTourney · 17/07/2025 16:38

SwingTheMonkey · 17/07/2025 16:30

Please can you provide evidence of this?

Hi, I tried to find the video on YouTube but they have removed it, maybe it was inaccurate and to promote another product

MrsPeacockDidIt · 17/07/2025 16:38

MJ doesn’t just work by suppressing your appetite (that helps with keeping in calorie deficit for sure) but it also helps with insulin resistance, something that older women in particular suffer with which makes it much much harder to lose fat even in a calorie deficit. It’s why the newer GLP-1s like MJ are better suited to peri and post menopausal women than the older type (eg ozempic).

SwingTheMonkey · 17/07/2025 16:39

MeridaBrave · 17/07/2025 16:37

No it doesn’t. I’m on the second highest dose and still want to eat 3 meals a day. If you have no desire to eat, you’re on the wrong dose or the medication isn’t suitable for you.

JacquesHarlow · 17/07/2025 16:39

There is some very dangerous and frankly concerning advice on this thread @partyetiquette .

I wouldn't listen to any of the "300 calories a day" stuff at all.

Venalopolos · 17/07/2025 16:39

Bbq1 · 17/07/2025 16:05

What concerns me about MJ is thinking that I will never eat out or enjoy food at a celebration, on holiday etc ever again. Is that the case? Also, I want to eat an evening meal with my family. Would i lose interest in that too? I don't want it to impact negatively on my lifestyle /family life.

FWIW I’m not on Mounjaro but I think my body naturally runs like someone taking it. I’m rarely hungry (I often feel shaky and lightheaded and that’s my reminder to eat rather than actual hunger) and don’t think about food outside of mealtimes. I often forget to eat meals. In fact if I could choose to never eat again, I would. The main downside is I can never really be bothered to cook because it is never worth the effort.

But I still sit down and enjoy a meal with my family every evening, and enjoy going for a meal with friends. I just enjoy it the same as going for drinks / a walk / to do any other activity.

Agreed, this sounds horrendous and completely against what I understand Ozempic to be about.

It doesn’t though. I eat healthy food every single day. I get hungry, that’s normal.

MrsPeacockDidIt · 17/07/2025 16:43

To add: I’ve been on it for 5 months and still enjoying food (and the occasional cocktail) but I’m finding it much easier to make better choices. I’m not craving sweet things and heavy carbs so having a high protein salad for instance has become what I want to eat and enjoy. Im
combining this journey with getting fitter so I’m at the gym most days doing strength training and Pilates. I’m having a great experience on it and am certainly not starving myself, nowhere near but I’m not eating chocolate and crisps every day like I used to

That’s not the case. You still enjoy food, you just don’t (can’t) overeat.

I can’t say enough good things about it. I was 13 stone 6 when I started and I now weigh 9 stone 10. My BMI has gone from 28.6 to 20.7.

Peridot1 · 17/07/2025 16:48

Some scary stuff happening on here. As others have said you still need to eat and if you are just never hungry then you are on too high a dose. Or it’s not suitable for you.

@partyetiquette - you will struggle to have it prescribed now if you do not meet the criteria. If you are struggling to lose the last bit of weight I’m sure it’s really frustrating. What kind of things are you eating? Lots of protein and fibre and drink lots of water. I listened to an interesting podcast today about protein and how much of it we need. Basically if we are eating the correct amount of protein - about 100 grams per day - we shouldn’t be hungry.

Nursejackiethomas · 17/07/2025 16:53

@BournardTourney perhaps youtube is not the best source of reliable information. Mounjaro has helped me lose 3 stones. I have done intermittent fasting, which I wouldn't have got through without it. It has been a wonderful experience and I hope to keep eating the way I have readjusted to. It helps because it curbs the appetite enough and balances blood sugar to eat healthier, not to the extent that you'd eat 300 cals a day though, malnutrition will set in fairly quickly, the body will take its nutrients from elsewhere ie your bones for calcium and your hair will drop out. Used properly it's brilliant, used incorrectly I can see how it might trigger latent disordered eating. Op it doesn't melt the fat off you it's not some miracle fat buster, if you can already eat sensibly you may need help from a nutritionist or personal trainer to help you reset your body to lose weight to get rid of those last few pounds well done on your weight loss so far.

That's all very reassuring to know. All i hear irl is people saying "Oh I only ate a baked potato yesterday" or "I only managed one chicken strip last night" which frankly sounds horrible and so unhealthy. Now I know it shouldn't be like that and you can have a normal life on it , I feel more positive to maybe try it.

castleclass · 17/07/2025 17:14

MeridaBrave · 17/07/2025 16:57

Sorry I meant it removed desire to eat unhealthy food.

So you quoted my question to another poster out of context. I was asking the person who said ‘we need to crave healthy foods’ why that is.

DaydreamBongospirit · 17/07/2025 17:29

I haven't got much of an appetite at all on 7.5mg but I'm eating little and often and aiming for healthy things I enjoy, as much protein as I can get in and plenty of fibre. This is my second month on 7.5 and I feel like this dose is enough for now.

I'd done a lot of the mental work around binge-eating prior to starting MJ and had lost 6.5 stone and kept it off but had plateaued and had constant food noise. MJ has turned the food noise off completely. I don't crave food any more. It's like a miracle for me - I've been hungry all my life and now I'm just not.

My BMI was 53 at my heaviest, I'm now down to 38.5 and still losing.

This is a useful thread...

What about side effects? I've read (probably from rubbish sources) about the nausea, burps, diarrhoea etc. Have any of you experienced any of those symptoms?

I've got tinnitus in one ear and it's the main thing stopping me from starting it, as I don't want that to get worse. But I'm not sure if I'm worrying about nothing!

JohnTheRevelator · 17/07/2025 17:45

Mounjaro helped me shift another 2 stone after I'd lost 5 stone from dieting alone. I'd got stuck at 15 and a half stone for months and just could not lose any more despite my best efforts. I just felt so hungry all the time and obviously, the more you've lost, the less you weigh and the fewer calories you need to lose weight. Mounjaro knocked my appetite on the head, making it easy to keep to 800 - 1000 calories per day.

Personally, I’ve had the odd bout of constipation but that’s been it. I’ve never had sulphur burps or diarrhoea or anything like that.

Yes, I can't go up to 5mg because of sulphur burps, diarrhoea and even some vomiting whenever I have tried. I get along just fine on 2.5mg and am five stone down a year after starting. Any increase in the dose causes gastro symptoms for me. Everyone's sweet spot is different - some people have no side effects at all, some people have to go all the way up to 15mg to lose any weight and some of us are very sensitive to it it seems!

Jackiepumpkinhead · 17/07/2025 17:57

BournardTourney · 17/07/2025 16:28

It removes your cravings for all food including healthy necessary foods and does not address the food psychology behind why we crave or feel drawn to certain foods. It also weakens the part of your brain that is strengthened when you do something you know you should but don’t want to and this affects your brain across all areas of life in your decision making not just food. There are also various side effects.

No, it doesn’t!

Titasaducksarse · 17/07/2025 18:04

LastDropsOfAnInkPen · 17/07/2025 16:16

That hasn't been my experience at all. I enjoy food far more on Mounjaro than ever before. I think it's because I don't ever feel desperately hungry, so I like cooking or preparing food now - I'm not ravenous and impatient, I don't snack while I'm doing it so when I sit down I can really appreciate what I've made. I have found lots of great salad recipes and I love wfh and putting together a fresh and colourful lunch that's nutritious and sustaining. I used to feel so out of control around food and that's completely changed.

I can't finish a full portion in a restaurant but that doesn't make me enjoy what I have any less. I just don't eat the whole thing. I always have dinner with my family and we all eat the same food. I have taken two all-inclusive holidays while on MJ and had a great time at the buffet selecting fresh fruits, salads, grilled meat and fish, vegetables - all delicious food in exactly the quantities I want and need. My energy levels are consistent, the afternoon slump is gone. I work out and make sure I eat enough protein for strength training. I have stayed on a low dose, never pushed higher in pursuit of stronger suppression and have lost five stone in a year.

Yep same experience for me

I have sulphur burps about 48 hours after I inject but usually eating and/or taking rennies helps that. I've not had any diarrhoea, do get a bit constipated if I don't drink enough though. I do get a bit of nausea but mostly in the mornings which is generally solved by eating something.

I have tinnitus in both ears but haven't had any noticeable worsening of it.

I was really worried about starting it has DH was prescribed semaglutide (wegovy) for T2D and ended up really poorly with pancreatitis but I'm really glad I did.
