To ask you to check your state pension age

Posting here for traffic.
I was checking my NI contributions online and found my projected retirement age for claiming state pension has risen.
It's always been 67.
Now it is 68.

Has anyone else's? I've not been informed this has changed, they've just done it.

mine is 67

DustyMaiden · 16/07/2025 08:02

If you were born before 1977 it’s still 67.

Shenmen · 16/07/2025 08:02

It's been in the press a lot a few weeks ago and had been known for years tbf. The Tories did all that pension reform stuff.
My pension pot is rubbish so have been overpaying into a private pension for the last 5 years from whenever they announced it.

Ginmonkeyagain · 16/07/2025 08:03

I mean you'd have to have been living under a rock not to know the state pension age is slowing increasing for most of us.

0BSESSED · 16/07/2025 08:04

I agree that it should increase anyway. People used to die about 5 years after retiring, now they can often go on for another 30 years. It all has to be paid for

Cantbearsedtothinkofausername · 16/07/2025 08:04

I'm born in 1977 and I just checked it is still 67.

ShesTheAlbatross · 16/07/2025 08:06

they've just done it.

You mean in the pension act 2007? And it’s going to 68 by 2046. So 39 years notice.

While I agree no change isn't sustainable, the average life expentancy has been over 70 for around 50 yrs and hit 75 thirty yrs ago with nothing being done about it. The short sharp increases to come are a slow reaction that younger people of today will have to pay for.

SriouslyWhutNow · 16/07/2025 08:25

I hate to tell you this but it's extremely unlikely to stay at 68 for the majority of us. I reckon by the time we're in our 50s it will have gone up again.
You can't depend on anything these days.

Overthebow · 16/07/2025 08:25

Yes this has been on the news and in consultations for ages now, it’s not new information.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 16/07/2025 08:27

I've watched mine go from 60 to 65 to the 67 it now is. It's always been well advertised without me having to 'check'.

I would certainly check that I had full pension entitlement though.

cheesycheesy · 16/07/2025 08:27

This isn’t new

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 16/07/2025 08:27

I'd also check on the Government Gateway that your NI is correct! I had to support someone whose employer had not paid her tax, NI, but had falsified pay slips saying she had!! Employer was prosecuted and only came out when the individual changed jobs!

ScrambledEggs12 · 16/07/2025 08:30

I wouldn't just assume that it will still be 68 when you get to 68!

Finteq · 16/07/2025 08:33

Mine is 68 But plenty of years for.it.to increase further.

I'm hoping to retire between 55- 60 though.

breastfeedingmamma · 16/07/2025 08:44

Mine is 68. I have known this for years.

breastfeedingmamma · 16/07/2025 08:45

There was talk of increasing it to 71, so don’t hold your breath for it still being 68 when you get there.

ilovesooty · 16/07/2025 08:47

ShesTheAlbatross · 16/07/2025 08:06

Exactly. Did the OP expect to get an individual notification?

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 16/07/2025 08:55

Mine has not changed.

SatsumaCat · 16/07/2025 08:57

I've known mine is 68 for years it's not a new change

Yep, obviously the government has a personal vendetta against the OP and has increased just her pension age. 🤷

caramac04 · 16/07/2025 09:00

Hoping to still get mine at 67 but have told my daughters they are likely to be at least 70 before they receive a state pension. Even then I think it will be means tested so those that pay into a decent private pension will get no help from the state.

Heronwatcher · 16/07/2025 09:02

Yup, mid 40s here (born after 1977) and I’m definitely expecting state pension to be over 70 by the time I retire. It is normally quite well covered in the news though- maybe you just have to be attuned to it?

ButtSurgery · 16/07/2025 09:05

I'm supposed to be 68 when I draw mine, but I'm doing all my retirement planning based purely on my occupational pensions. I'm working on the basis that it won't exist by the time I retire, so if I get it it'll be a huge bonus.
