to be annoyed with DP for always turning off washing machine when it goes into a full spin?

It really pisses me off (in a non serious but still very real and annoyed way)

He gets annoyed with it when it's on while he is sat in kitchen - on computer/having dinner/watching TV etc and gets up while it's on its noisy full spin and turns it off.

But the spin doesn't last long and I think it's a waste of energy (????????) and just plain irritating.

Your thoughts.

And you had better be on my side or I can't show him the thread and tell him how totally unreasonable he is and how right I am!

How long does it last - could it go on pause?

CrackerOfNuts · 26/05/2008 20:46

God, that would really bug me.

Dear Mr Thomcat.

YABU, how the hell can you get the washing dry if you keep switching the machine off! You'll be first to complain when you run out of clean clothes!

Thomcat · 26/05/2008 20:51

Life is too short yes, absolutley, but we all have our bug bears and this is mine, and you're not taking it away from me, okay

No, course he doesn't turn it on again after, he's blind to washing!

We have a large kitchen diner so live in our kitchen. Washing has to be done and there's a lot of it to get done.

He should just leave it when it's on and not stop it when it's in full spin, shouldn't he

OP posts:
cupsoftea · 26/05/2008 20:52

No he shouldn't stop it - isn't it bad for the machine to have that weight of wet clothes in? (thinking of a good reason to keep it on!!!)

IdrisTheDragon · 26/05/2008 20:53

It would drive me mad if DH did that. Do you put it back onto spin later?

Pinkveto · 26/05/2008 20:53

He can only turn it off if he remembers to turn it back on.

Nag him about turning it back on enough and he might stop turning it off.

Nothing is more irritating than going to hang out a load and it HASNT FINISHED

Anna8888 · 26/05/2008 20:54

I have to agree that I think that the spinning sound is very annoying. I time things so that the washing machine is never on in the evenings/at weekend meal times (we have a separate laundry room but it is in the middle of the flat and the noise carries).

choosyfloosy · 26/05/2008 20:54

perhaps he would like to organise for the washing machine to be in the bathroom?

tricky in this country as there are building regs about how close it can be to running water and all that, but it can be done, and it's a brilliant place to have one. there's a project for him to sort out?

Iota · 26/05/2008 20:54

that's why utility rooms were invented, TC

and yes it would bug me too

onepieceoflollipop · 26/05/2008 20:55

Yes he should definitely NOT stop it whilst on spin. (don't print off my last post for him).

Dear Mr Thomcat,

Stop being unreasonable.

Thank you.

btw my dh is very unreasonable, he likes to leave the dishes on top of the worktop above the dishwasher, so yes we all have our bugbears.

Thomcat · 26/05/2008 20:55

Can we just delete onepieceoffollipops post???????

I so know i'm right on this and that it would drive most sane people mad!!!!!!!

OP posts:
BouncingTurtle · 26/05/2008 20:55

Yes but not everyone has a utility room...

Bky · 26/05/2008 20:56

This would drive me mad..I hate our washing machine's spin cycle with a passion as it makes the whole kitchen vibrate and if there is washing up piled on the drainer it all tends to fall over. Doesn't last long though so is not too hard to put up with.

Thomcat · 26/05/2008 20:56

Oh fuck me - the utility room that I don't have, yeeeeeesssssssss thta'll be the answer!!!!!!!!!!!! and !!!!!!!!

OP posts:
Thomcat · 26/05/2008 20:57

Oh and my DP does the dishes on top of empty dishwasher thing too!

OP posts:
Iota · 26/05/2008 20:57

I knew you'd find my comment helpful, TC

Thomcat · 26/05/2008 20:58

Can we establish whether this is a bad thing to do for washing machine / energy so I cna hit him with it (fact that is not the actual washing machine, although that's a nice thought!!!!! )

OP posts:
Thomcat · 26/05/2008 20:59

iota - yes thank you sooooo much, I've shoved it up my bum with DP's suggestion of doing the washing another time!!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
Iota · 26/05/2008 21:01

stick a broom up there as well TC and you'll be able to sweep the kitchen floor whilst you cook

Thomcat · 26/05/2008 21:03

LOL!

OP posts:
BarbaraWoodlouse · 26/05/2008 21:05

My DH has a blue fit if I open the dishwasher door when it's just started its cycle.

He's obviously got me well trained because I'm at the thought of turning a washing machine off mid spin. I would have fears of all sorts of technical misfortunes.....

cupsoftea · 26/05/2008 21:05

Just tell him tc. Get him to hold a basket of sopping wet washing & say that's left in the machine when you stop spin & this weight is too much for the machine.

cosima · 26/05/2008 21:05

you must not spin his underpants, then they will take ages to dry, then he can wear dirty ones or catch a cold!
