To think you can drink tap water in a 1st world country!

My OH will not drink tap water and it drives me insane. He just drove 20 minutes home at 10pm because he left half a bottle of water on the side at home and no shops are open and in his words ‘I take my water seriously’

I think the reason it drives me insane is because the reason he won’t drink it is because of the hormones etc in it but yet he has spent his whole life being obese. He goes through intense phases of working out and eating really well and loses weight but ultimately he is still obese and thinks that the one time he got to 17st is some sort of achievement that he needs to tell me about allllllll the time. He drives without a seatbelt on, he took pretty hard drugs as a young man and has always drunk alcohol (although he barely does these things now) I think another reason is that he constantly watches strong men / sports personalities talking about their workouts and nutrition and he insists on telling me about things that I have no interest in and have told him as much - after many years of politely saying ‘ooh interesting’ whilst secretly thinking ‘I bet you weren’t thinking about the processed meats giving you cancer when you ate your McDonalds wrap for breakfast 😡’ or ‘I’m 9 years older than you and manage to get more done in any given day than you do despite the fact that I’m not interested in an ice bath’ I know there’s no link to obesity from tap water but Jesus Christ something has to kill you! I doubt it will be the rusty pipes or hormones in the water! He had the audacity to ask me if I felt comfortable eating a sweetie the other day (not fat shaming me, I’m not fat, more that he wanted to make the point that there were no ingredients on the wrapper, pretty sure there were no ingredients on the sweet and sour chicken from the Chinese that he ate last night either 🤪)

I also know lots of you are going to tell me to get a grip and let him live as he pleases but if you had to listen to him go on and on about it whilst he’s sat there sweating and needing 400 bowel movements a day you would find it a hard pill to swallow.

Do you drink tap water? AIBU to think that in an emergency a bit of tap water isn’t going to kill you!

We're all human and irrational.

We contradict ourselves in many of our behaviours.

If you fully analysed yourself, you would find areas where you are a hypocrite too.

Jennyathemall · 14/07/2025 06:32

Your husband is an idiot and you’d be better off without him

OrdinaryGirl · 14/07/2025 06:33

It’s not normal to have a bowel movement 5-6 times a day - also OP you said he feels unwell and he hasn’t seen a doctor about this? My first thought is that he needs to go and get checked for bowel cancer asap.
Commonest things are commonest, but if cancer hasn’t yet been ruled out as a cause for these symptoms, getting a GP appointment should be top priority for today.

If you live in a hard water area then no you can't drink it, well unless you filter it first. It won't kill you once in a blue moon though. Does he drink milk at all? If yes, ask him why he can accept all the hormones in that but not water😂 he sounds very conflicted with his healthy living whilst being obese

i wonder what is so bad about drinking hard water ? Thx

belladeli · 14/07/2025 06:35

Which posts? Do you mean the ones that bang on about dangerous chemicals and then claim that there was no intention to alarm anyone?

The ones that extrapolate acknowledging something factual into something else.

I posted straight after one article that I don't filter my water....so I clearly haven't scaremongered myself 😆

@summertimeinLondon

It's factual that hormones & PFAs are in tap water. I am surprised so many were unaware. Does this mean I don't drink it? No. I also eat bacon...

We have two children, he would never dream of not strapping them in correctly though.

Until they get to the age where they notice dad's not wearing a seatbelt so think it's not important.

I couldn't be with someone who would let children sit in the car watching him drive without a seatbelt as if it's not a big deal and just a choice you can make.

Seatbelts aren't optional.

IwasDueANameChange · 14/07/2025 06:35

This is utter rubbish 🤣

You can of course drink hard water. All uk cold water (mains) tap water is safe to drink unless the tap is labelled otherwise. Its among the cleanest in the world. I actually hate how soft water tastes.

Nothing - it's absolutely fine to drink.

muddyford · 14/07/2025 06:37

Couldn't agree more!

ThatCyanCat · 14/07/2025 06:38

When I was overweight I would often find some individual aspect of health and nutrition to focus on (drinking only water, not drinking fizzy drinks or caffeine, only dry roasting potatoes etc) and make a thing of it, despite the fact that I was of course doing lots of other stuff causing me to be overweight and unfit that I wasn't seriously tackling. Other family members and people I know who aren't fit and healthy do/did the same.

I'm not shaming anyone, I know how hard it can be. I'm just saying I understand the psychology. I didn't impose it on anyone else (was too young to, really) but I can see how it must be irritating.

ErnestClementine · 14/07/2025 06:38

Rather than focusing on what you don't like about him (and I wouldn't either), put your energy into working out what the blockers are to leaving him and how to get over them.
Just think, by next summer you could never have to spend any time with him again!

What’s the point of mentioning chemicals that you think are harmless, then?

OrdinaryGirl · 14/07/2025 06:40

Also OP, I’ve just read some more of your comments, and it sounds like you are having a miserable time in this relationship - you say he’s turned you into a nervous wreck, that’s awful 😢 You seem like you feel trapped?

I know you started the thread lightheartedly but there is a lot underneath it isn’t there? Have you got someone IRL that you trust who you can talk to about the relationship?

belladeli · 14/07/2025 06:40

claim that there was no intention to alarm anyone

This is what I mean by comprehension!

When did it become a thing that it's preferable to lie about things or pretend they don't exist because someone might not like that truth? 😆

Hulabalu · 14/07/2025 06:42

Drowninginconfusion · 13/07/2025 22:48

Oh that’s another ballgame altogether. We drink lactose free milk because he ‘might’ be lactose intolerant. He hasn’t had any tests and he still needs the toilet 5-6 times a day despite cutting out lactose almost entirely. He hasn’t seen a doctor about this but just in case we drink milk that’s twice the price of cows milk 😂

Does he eat a lot of wheat? He could have a gluten intolerance, not celiacs . He could research gut microbiome.

belladeli · 14/07/2025 06:45

What’s the point of mentioning chemicals that you think are harmless, then?

I don't know how harmless they are but for me it's less harmful & cheaper than bottled water. In the same way I like bacon, it's probably better that I don't eat it but I like it. It could harm me.

My post about hormones was responding to someone who had never heard that. And my post about PFAs was in response to someone saying you can't drink tap water.

Again what is the problem with writing something factual?

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 14/07/2025 06:46

I am battling to understand why you are staying with this person. You find him a bit stupid and seem physically repulsed by him. Are you taking steps to leave?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 14/07/2025 06:46

Just dropping the aspect that an ex was 'serious about water' when it had vodka in the precious bottle that had to be returned for and kept on his person at all times.

Magnir · 14/07/2025 06:47

fireplaceember · 13/07/2025 23:08

I drink tap water but I do keep 2l of bottled water in. Only after I woke up one day to a do not drink water notice that went on for weeks and I can’t cope without my morning cup of tea!

Me too, I keep some in the garage for this. We haven't experienced it yet but a few cases have been on the news.

So posting three times about PFAs (and once about hormones) in drinking water, isn’t raising health fears?

Maybe you’re just, you know, ‘putting it out there’.

And you attack people for their comprehension skills…

belladeli · 14/07/2025 06:55

And you attack people for their comprehension skills…

Again why is acknowledging a fact raising health fears?

I posted straight after saying I don't filter my own tap water!

And you attack people for their comprehension skills…

Google attack & comprehension...

Responding to someone accusing me of scaremongering because they can't separate something factual from personal judgement is not an attack.
If my articles are scaremongering I am sure you can report them and get them deleted.

Bromptotoo · 14/07/2025 06:56

Drink tap water without a sec and the UK and thought in any EU country I've visited - limted to the west. If it's not fit to drink I'd expect signs like there used to be in France saying it's not OK.

I know some parts of France have a recent problem with stuff leaching into aquifers bit it's fairly localised.

belladeli · 14/07/2025 06:56

Maybe you’re just, you know, ‘putting it out there’.

It's not a bloody conspiracy 😆😆

My reference to scaremongering wasn’t about you. A different poster also linked to Guardian articles. But once you started on about others’ lack of comprehension I had a look back and you did post several times about PFAs. And once about hormones.

You also seem to have a problem saying straightforwardly that the chemicals you repeatedly mentioned are harmless in tap water quantities.

Nobody’s suggested a conspiracy.

Iamnotalemming · 14/07/2025 07:18

Unfortunately the Internet makes it much easier to decide that kelp pills or oat milk is the route to fitness instead of changing all your lifestyle habits. He still sounds deluded though and incredibly annoying.

OP you sound at the end of your rope. Have you thought about having an initial appointment with a solicitor, to understand practicalities if you were to separate? Knowledge is power.
