To ask if you can die of a missed period (hear me out)

Period now three weeks late (definitely not pregnant I've done all the tests). But uterus is feeling swollen and spasming and awful and it feels like something is trying to get out but can't. Is it possible there's some blockage and I'm going to rupture and die?

(I know that a missed period is a thing people have now and then I've just never had it myself)

Is there a possibility you could be pregnant?
Only asking as I didn’t have any positive tests with my oldest.

I think you should go and see your Gp, who might send you for an ultrasound.

Usernamenotavailable19 · 12/07/2025 21:49

Hope not. My period is 2/3 weeks late too

Agrumpyknitter · 12/07/2025 21:49

Doubtful, but get yourself seen by the GP. I understand you are worried but none of us can diagnose you on an internet forum.

Hope everything turns out okay.

TaupeMember · 12/07/2025 21:50

I would defo see a GP asap if this isn't at all normal for you.

BreezyPeachGoose · 12/07/2025 21:50

You haven't left a tampon inside have you???

As above, go see your GP or 111 over the weekend.

I mean I have had sex but I'm not exaggerating when I say I've got half a dozen negative tests (all those whizzy digital ones).

Solidarity! Do you feel like things are filling up in there (sorry for tmi question)?

No, you're in no danger of dying, but you do want to be seen as soon as possible.
Pain is the signal that there is something wrong, and the greater the pain, the more the urgency.
If this were me, I would want to be seen right away.
Best of luck to you, OP.

IMissSparkling · 12/07/2025 21:53

I've missed plenty of periods (PCOS, cycles all over the place) and have never felt like that. Definitely get checked out.

WFHmutha25 · 12/07/2025 21:55

I missed one last month which would have been great but for the whole month I had that horrible coming on feeling. I didn't have bad pain though. Should you be looking for signs of ectopic pregnancy if the pain is really bad?

MaggieBsBoat · 12/07/2025 21:55

I had ashermanns Syndrome and had exactly this. Horrible. It won’t kill you but get to the doc.

Fragmentedbrain · 12/07/2025 21:55

Arggg I had hoped the answer would be don't worry this is something that just happens sometimes.

Thanks everyone at least won't feel like making a fuss when phone the GP. Sort of feels like I could do with a syringe to get everything cleared iyswim.

(Certain not pregnant although would be lying if the possibility of a test defying pregnancy isn't throwing me into additionao panic)

Thanks. Did it come on after an obvious cause or more over time?

I feel completely fine, do feel my next period will be painful though because it’s so late

Yes same. Really hoping there isn't a risk from clots getting stuck etc. trying to just be pure and drink tea and relax.

Ectopic pregnancies don’t always show on tests but could explain your symptoms

Foreverm0re · 12/07/2025 22:40

Aren’t digital tests the least sensitive ones?

It is possible for obstructions to happen, some women are born with one and it takes several months of pain but no bleeding for it to be diagnosed. In rare cases an obstruction can happen in women who have had normal periods.

SilverHammer · 12/07/2025 23:16

Have you been under stress or flown abroad/taken a ferry/boat. I’ve had this happen before and the doctor put it down to these things.

I have been travelling a bit. Did you find yours just went back to normal?

Yes. I was thinking it was the menopause of something but I was about three weeks late and then it went back to normal cycle after that. It you have been travelling I would think that is to blame.

NightPuffins · 12/07/2025 23:25

How old are you? Perimenopause has done all sorts of weird things to my cycle and period habits.
