On a very gentle amble to a pub in the cotswolds this evening, a young man around 14, asked my 71 Yr old mother her opinion on 'beating the meat'.

Myself, having heard my mother's reply of 'I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean' (she certainly did, the wily old fox) but nothing else, turned to him and asked him to repeat. He then, very smoothly, asked what my opinion was on Man United. Shamefully, I told him (I don't wish to repeat). On asking him who he supported he tapped his man u bottle and ran away.

AIBU to spread this encounter far and wide to alert the church elders?

He’s a troubled child and I feel sorry for him. He will remember how he was and be embarrassed when he is older. It will keep him awake at night

I really hope so...my fear is, there is a subset of males who belive this is normal or at least simply 'banter' (pessimistic, I know)

I find this kind of this really creepy and dangerous? It’s almost like flashing, and although everyone seems to be quite amused I’d say this is the kind of thing sex offenders do before their behaviour escalates. If he’d have said this to any woman in my family I’d be disgusted and want to report him to someone.
and I speak as someone whose elderly relative (older than your mother ) was sexually assaulted by someone not much older than this kid. Church elders? I’d call the police.

Back in her younger days when most people smoked she was with my godmother and a man called them over to his car. They assumed he was going to ask for directions but it turns out he was masturbating. @QuoteOfTheDay no offence taken , just that I’m kind of surprised that the responses have all been very humorous but fail to recognise the threat here, whether because of the ages of those involved or what I don’t know. I always think with these kind of characters for instance I would be perfectly ready to answer with a witty comeback , but if my teenage daughter was approached walking alone at night and asked a similar question she’d be terrified.
What you have described is a really common type of sexual aggression, which can be terrifying for lone women. It lands differently in different circumstances, but nevertheless far from harmless and very disturbing for such a young kid to be displaying such sexualised behaviour and testing it out on random strangers.

Yeah, i really get it. I'm not proud of it but growing up in these small communities (not prestbury as it's relatively new to me but not that far away) I admit to becoming numb to it.
