to wish people would stop congratulating me on having "one of each"?

It just strikes me as an odd thing to bang on about.

"Oooh! One of each, aren't you clever!"

Ummm, no. It wasn't anything I did, and I would have been just as thrilled if DC2 had been another girl.

If he had been a girl would everyone have been secretly disappointed? Would they have assumed I was disappointed?

What about families who have all girls or all boys? Have they failed in some way?

And what is the deal with assuming that now I've got "one of each" I won't be having any more children?

Ah, yes, doesn't sound fun

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/05/2008 16:23

Ah, it seems that I too am clever, as I will be having one of each.

Knax · 27/05/2008 16:42

I've probably made loads of these comments over the years and offended people... Like people have said, more just small talk really.

PeachyWontLieToYou · 27/05/2008 16:54

People keep asking me that as ds4 is male am I going to try for a girl? Er no. I wanted 4 kids, i have 4.

What I really do really like is the camaraderie from other famillies with 4 boys, seems to be a bit of a club atmosphere LOL. they're alld rawn to come over and say Hi, which is really nice.

lulumama · 27/05/2008 16:56

i'm very clever too apparently.

i think it is just one of those stock phrases people roll out when they see a new baby

bigshopper · 27/05/2008 22:35

Psycho, I looked at your pictures and your kids are beautiful.

Flibbertyjibbet · 27/05/2008 23:00

when pg with dc 2 and people saying 'oh I bet you want a girl this time' I replied 'oh god no - I am one of four girls and wouldn't wish any of that sister stuff on my darling ds!'
If they tried to press the point that I 'should' want a girl : I'd pull the 'and I went to convent school and spent 7 years surrounded by girls and nuns so I'd like a bit of male company in my dotage please' which usually shut people up

Thankfully after all that anti-girl stuff I did have another boy.

I was gutted when my son turned out to be a son. I'm still learning how to deal with the random maleness of it all. Another girl would have been easier, although I suspect the pitched battles in years to come will be ever so slightly less bitchy this way
