Amazon prime day is a pile of tat

And most of the ‘deals’ are available elsewhere for equivalent or cheaper

I got some Clarks sandals for £35 and they’re on Clarks website for £85

FunkyMonks · 11/07/2025 21:48

Not all of it’s bad there are a few good deals on there but I find a lot of companies are now doing deals around the same time to compete.

MoominUnderWater · 11/07/2025 21:49

I got snail mucin stuff half price. And 24 andrex loo rolls for about £11 which I thought was a good price.

LemondrizzleShark · 11/07/2025 21:50

Amazon itself is the equivalent of a pound shop these days. Prime video and the kindle are the only reason I stay on it - I haven’t bought a physical object from them in two years because it is all cheap Chinese tat that looks like it will fall apart/catch fire. No proper brands at all. Honestly Argos is a better bet these days.

fireplaceember · 11/07/2025 22:02

I just bought the stuff I buy monthly anyway while it was cheaper (I know the prices as I buy regularly!)
so cat litter, cat supplement, toilet rolls, all the exciting stuff

blahblah11 · 11/07/2025 22:06

It’s a load of crap. The stuff I buy is the same price as normal. Except they put an inflated price next to the price I paid last month.

AutumnFog · 11/07/2025 22:07

I got a cordless hoover much cheaper than elsewhere and had been looking around for offers for a few weeks. Its useful timing as it's a different timing to other usual sales.

MeringueOutang · 11/07/2025 22:10

Yep, you have to trawl through so much Chinese tat on perma-discount to actually get to any half-decent deals, and once you've done Prime Day (or Black Friday or whatever they're calling it in any given quarter) once or twice, you've probably got all the genuine branded deal stuff from Amazon that you'd ever actually want.

Elbowpatch · 11/07/2025 22:10

I got an internet streaming device that I was going to buy anyway for 20% off so I am happy. It was cheaper on Amazon than elsewhere before the discount.

Hoardasurass · 11/07/2025 22:17

I just got a new pond pump (that id been looking into for the last couple of weeks) for £37 its £69 or more on every other website.
I think it all depends on what you're buying.

Finteq · 11/07/2025 22:18

Was there anything actually good this year?

YetiRosetti · 11/07/2025 22:19

I generally agree that a lot of it is minimal discount or artificially bolstering the level of discount by putting an inflated RRP. I did get a Shark robovac for significantly cheaper though.

Theunamedcat · 11/07/2025 22:20

I bought a few things that I needed anyway but nothing i wanted even the cat food wasn't cheaper neither was the cat litter

Tallyrand · 11/07/2025 22:21

It's the infinite scroll that pisses me off.

The same sponsored products every 3rd or 4th item. I scrolled past it the first time for a reason.

freeplumbrandy · 11/07/2025 22:42

All the Blink brand wireless security cameras and doorbells are on there at big discounts. A bit cross as we just bought some last month!

RaininSummer · 11/07/2025 22:52

I did ok on things I needed like a vax carpet shampooer and a few hair products I needed to top up.

fount · 11/07/2025 23:02

I bought several small, mostly practical things that are actually cheaper at the moment. No amazingly lower prices, but if it's something I'll use eventually, it's a good time to stock up. I didn't need any big ticket items, anyway, so wasn't even looking for that type of deal.

Isittimeformynapyet · 11/07/2025 23:15

I'm glad to see this thread. There are a few things I need and I felt pressured by Amazon notifications to rush decisions and buy all of them, which I can't afford.

In the end I bought nothing and was wondering if I'd missed out.

How do I choose a bloody air fryer? There's too many of them and the prices vary so much 😵‍💫

Are they any good?

pinkglitter12 · 11/07/2025 23:38

It always is. You can literally find things on sale far cheaper at any other time of year.
Christmas / new year sales are the best.
The greedy bastards know theres a whole bunch of people with Xmas money to spend and thats when theyre all competing

RedToothBrush · 11/07/2025 23:45

The deal with prime day is you only ever buy stuff you had in your wish list prior to it starting.

Supersimkin7 · 11/07/2025 23:48

They’re selling a lot of robovacs that only work on older worlde 2 gb wifi, which is pointed out in tiny type below ecstatic reviews from Beijing.

Menopants · 12/07/2025 07:10

Glad it’s not just me. Yes definitely pound shop vibes.

Highest power, the right size. That’s all- unless you want the dehydrate function. (If you don’t know, you don’t want it, it’s a bit niche)

Everything else is flash but no substance. The different settings are just preset temperature and time, no value at all.

incognitomouse · 12/07/2025 07:36

I got new AirPods with £50 off, was happy with that as I needed new ones.
